simpsonsmovietheater.jpgThere was a bit of a surprise today at the Simpsons Comic-Con panel. Unbeknown to Groening and the other members of the panel, a representative from the Guinness Book of World Records appeared on stage for a big reveal: He announced that The Simpsons is now the longest running sitcom in the world, displacing The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet which had 435 episodes.

It was also announced that they now have the Guinness for the most Emmy’s for a single show, and the show was selected by Guinness readers as one of the top 100 records of the decade. They were a bit unclear on what that last award meant, but I figure it’s something along the lines of a lifetime achievement award for breaking so many records.

Even though I feel that The Simpsons has fallen far from its glory days, there’s still a part of me that appreciates how much the show is still beloved. As he was leaving the stage, Groening made it clear that the show still has a lot of life left in it: “There is no end in sight, Simpsons forever.”

Despite its faltering quality the past couple of years the show is still better than some other animated sitcoms out there.

Hope it stays on air as long as it can.

I don't watch the show anymore, but the Simpson family is a television icon, and Homer Simpson could be the greatest television character of all time. I hope the show stays on as long as possible.

Too bad about half of them are actually extremely funny episodes. Al Jean is a terrible show runner, and all the current writers suck. The animation just doesn't feel right anymore either.

I miss the good ol days. The show has improved recently, but the days of pure excellence are long gone.
  • simpsons was better in its early season but still appeals to me today and gets laughs

at least its better than king o the hill (dull)

Seasons 1-12 = Pure Genius. Everything else after that is just fodder.

    I forgot this show existed.

Thats a terrible joke that no one finds funny.

Perhaps your quick wit would be good for Carlos Mencia or Family Guy.

Cleveland Show sucks! Bring back Futurama!!!
  • Regicide
I don't know if it's a record or not, but '300 Consecutive Episodes Without a Laugh' has got to be up there.
  • It's amazing how this show continues to ride the wave of its earlier popularity. I think I'm like most, in that I don't go out of my way to see it anymore, but if it happens to be on, I don't switch channels. The syndicated stuff is especially fun to stumble upon while surfing.

In Krusty's words, from a long ago epsiode: "Make it stop"!!!!!

It's still funny only very occasionally. And touching? It hasn't been that for a decade.

Its a cash cow for both Groenig and Fox and that's the only reason its still going.
