Flynn's arcade tokens

I was awoken this early morning by the Fedex woman. I was supposed to be up anyways, getting ready for Comic-Con, went to bed later than planned last night. Needless to say, I was kinda grumpy. And the fact that I’ll be away from home for a week meant that if I didn’t answer the door, I would have to visit the Fedex warehouse downtown to get the package when I retuned home. Which is a greater hassle than getting up out of bed, even if it didn’t seem like one at that moment. “This package better be something good,” I mumbled to myself. The Fedex woman hands me a slim Fedex express envelope which felt like it had a quarter in it. “Great…”

Inside was a small manilla envelope, which I opened into my hands. It contained a generic flash drive (no movie branding) and two arcade coins. I was thinking that obviously someone must be playing a joke on me until I noticed the words on the arcade coins: FLYNN’S ARCADE. For those who don’t remember, the character Kevin Flynn in the 1982 sci-fi film Tron, had been working in a arcade with the games he had created. That’s right… this is the beginning of a viral for Disney’s Tron 2! The memory stick contains the following animated gif.

After further research, I found that FirstShowing, JoBlo, ComingSoon and UGO have also recieved packages with different animated gif images featuring different code. I’m not sure what it all means, but I’m sure, much like The Dark Knight virals, its up to you, the readers, to figure this one out. The package came from a post office mailing center right across the street from the San Diego Convention Center. And with Comic-Con beginning on Thursday, I’m sure we can expect some Tron 2 viral fun at Comic-Con. It would be frigging awesome if there was a Flynn’s Arcade in San Diego…

The animated gif is the beginings of some CSS code...
Loving this viral stuff for Tron 2 already,
looking forward to see how this progresses...
hopefully it works out as well as the Dark Knight viral did.

    My God... SOOOOO much anticipation!!!
    Can't wait!!!

Need a ****** teaser or something!!!
  • I'm amazed that the footage shown last year hasn't been released. I hope this time around we get something more substantial. We need _something_.

Time for some freak to start working this all out!

I don't possess anywhere near the mental capacity to figure this stuff out, nor do I have any coding knowledge beyond how to bold, underline or italicize the text. But it seems that if each of the blogs got a different GIF with different code perhaps someone who is familiar with this stuff might be able to combine them to some end?

I got a package as well. No idea why as I'm not part of the comics or movie community. In any case, I found that this a basic substitution cipher and you need to overlay all of the 4 gifs to get valid HTML. I haven't gotten that far but I have notes and a partial translation for the 3rd gif at http://www.tyranny.com/tron2

I will only see this if the Tron Guy makes a Cameo. What does the memory stick look like? Perhaps there is a hidden clue in the design. And are you sure that is all that is on the drive? They have their own trash bin that doesn't visually appear when you plug it in.
  • These are fragments of a "codewheel-type" encrypted html page.
Here are the letters I have decrypted so far: http://twitpic.com/b4vg4

In my opinion there is probably no hidden message within the rewritten CSS-tags (animated GIF content). I guess it could be a plot hint - something along the line that the websites of the Internet will be rewritten by the MCP. Just speculating. End Of Line.

God i hope it means Disney are remaking Black Hole.
