hey guys,i'm from germany and i just wanted to say that i really enjoy your show...it's always funny and it seems like there is some basic knowledge about movies in the house.keep up your great work ...oh and great review of public enemies
  • Thanks!
  • Johny deep was the real America's Most Wanted.

really a gangster movies. hes pretty tough with the tommy gun and the overcoat.

    thank this post. thumbs up.
  • This is the first /film Cast I have listened too, and I was impressed throughout until midway through the Public Enemies review. I loved the insight and the analysis of everything in the episode, but I don't understand how each person can continue to talk about the disappointments, holes, and what was lacking from Public Enemies, and still say they enjoyed the film? And this is what has surprised me about the general response of critics to the film as well, almost giving it a "get out of jail free card", despite the many issues that people/critics/reviewers point out.
  • Hey Carter,

Thanks for listening, and for your constructive feedback! I think a lot of what you're hearing is disappointment in the missed potential of the film. "Public Enemies" could have been a classic! Despite that, though, "Public Enemies" was still an enjoyable film and I enjoyed sitting through it, but it's not worthy of what Mann is capable of. Still, I'd take a mediocre Mann film over an awesome Ratner film (oxymoron?) any day.
  • Haha, awesome Ratner film is definitely an oxymoron. I really wanted Public Enemies to be great too.

The greatest appeal of the /Filmcast is that the hosts and guests don't just give a thumbs-up or a letter grade, but they explain IF they liked it, and WHY they did/n't, and get into the nitty gritty of a film. They don't whitewash anything. And that's the fun of it.

Cool episode :) Dan is back
  • Kjetil
Miama Vice was great. Very realistic and intense. It was to good for most people to understand.

Great podcast. Just when I think I can't love it more, a new episode comes out and I'm proven wrong. I wish Dan could be on every week. And I really hope Devindra talks about anime more often. I really enjoyed the short Claymore/Cowboy Bebop/Evangelion discussion alot.
  • zamarov
that episode was excellent, particularly the bit about digital film
I'm from Ireland and I've only recently come accross this podcast

you guys and mark kermode have by far the best podcasts on film

you have a great thing going on there, great dynamic between all of you, and an infectious enthusiasm for film

    keep up the great work!
  • Fully agree zamarov I have been listening to the /film cast for a year now and its as good as Mark Kermode.

two best movie podcasts out there
  • I was disappointed that you guys barely mentioned Marion Cotillard I thought that her performance was wonderful.
  • Miami Vice was awesome, loved it
  • Definitely agree on Devindra's anime recommendations. Cowboy Bebop's a great introduction although my heart as well lies with Evangelion. NGE is confusing enough as-is without having to figure out if you like anime or not at the same time.

How about having Trachtenberg on the show a lot less?

Geeked for a stupid, 'brand building' 'Asteroids' movie... but 'Predator' is a so-so. Please. Did his mom drop him on his head? 'Kingdom of Heaven' is some kind of omission on the AFI Top 100 boat, even though critical consensus runs around 40-50%?

And I'm fine with dissenting opinions, but the guy monopolizes the show with these weird superlatives. He talks and talks and talks. By definition, an Orlando Bloom centered movie cannot be one of the greatest films of all time.

And yes, the term is 'Depth of Field' when speaking of the amount of the frame that is in focus going out away from the camera.

(But hey, enjoy the show and listen to them all. You guys are really getting a good groove going)

Kingdom of Heaven was terrible. Orlando Bloom was such a bitch in that film like he always is.
  • Being from STL, it's nice to hear that Dan is on KMOX.

    Congrats Dan.
