Veronica Mars

In March, show creator Rob Thomas gave an update on the developing Veronica Mars movie, stating that “while the pitch went well and I don’t think the movie’s dead, right now it’s looking depressing.” We haven’t heard anything since, and assumed that it’s fallen into the deep dark depths of development heck.  Ad now the star of the series, Kristen Bell, is finally conceding that a film will probably never happen.

Bell tells EW at the Saturn Awards:

I don’t think it will ever happen, and here’s why: Rob Thomas and I had a powwow, and we were both 100 percent on board. We took our proposal to Warner Bros. and Joel Silver told us that there is no enthusiasm to make a Veronica Mars movie, and that is unfortunately a roadblock we cannot compete with. Maybe if we bombard them with letters? Maybe they will change their tune.

Doesn’t sound good at all. I have a feeling that we haven’t heard the last of this project, and eventually things might come together … but will it be too late? I’ve said this before, but I think this requires repeating: How old could Veronica be before the concept just turns into your typical detective mystery?

Part of the appeal of the show to me was the unique spin of setting the detective story in the world of High School and College. And the only way to bring the story back to the school is to set it at a high school reunion… and I’m not digging that idea. And as much as fans are craving for another fix, I’m not sure the story of a 30-year-old Veronica Mars might be all that interesting. And I say that as a fan of the series. Hey, we’ll always have the DVDs, right?

    A real shame
  • I'm finally catching up with this series - I just started yesterday and I'm only two episodes in. I love Kristen Bell, so I'm really looking forward to enjoying the whole show. From the sound of it, I think you're probably right - the idea of a film gets more ridiculous the farther Kristen gets from "college age." I'll try to come back and post further thoughts when I finish the series, if I remember.

True, we wil always have the DVDs. But with season 3 ending the way it did there will always be a hole left in my heart.
  • vicki1965
Your definetly right i need to know what happens pleeeeeeeeeeeease let there be something to tie up all the loose ends
  • rach
i agree i love veronica mars and i cant get enough of the first 3 seasons but they just left it so open that if u watch the last episode you wouold think they have to make a season 4 and i think they should
tehre needs to be something to tie up the loose end eg. logan, piz, keith mars and all that stuff
  • Matt
Yea we will have the DVDs but I want more Veronica Mars. The series ended badly and I think they should have kept it on for at least one more season.

This makes me sad. I want a VMars movie soooo bad!
  • scott
    development heck?
  • Its one step above development hell :)
  • Zeus
If only they can do something where it can go straight to video or a made for tv movie at least. Doesn't have to be an official movie released in theaters maybe thats why it hasn't been done since the ratings of the show did badly, WB thinks it will do even worse if it came out in theaters. Just do a made for tv movie and tie in all the plot holes that were left open at end of seasons 3 and leave it at that so we all VM fans can have some sort of closure and not be left without nothing till it's too late to do anything at all.
  • chadtapp
Wow. This is just about the worst movie news I could read on my birthday :(
  • Michael_C
Yeah, that's depressing. The first season of Veronica Mars is one of the strongest single seasons of television I've ever seen.
  • Oniel
If the CW is rebooting all those 90s they should just bring back Veronica or that time skip idea.
  • The selfish part of me would like to see more but the other half would like them to leave it alone. It never got better than the first season which is really great TV.
  • Chris
Most TV shows do not work on the big screen.

the reason most people love a show is because the characters have developed and the show has told storylines over the course of a season that has viewers invested and excited about it.

How is it possible to re-introduce these charaters on the big screen when most of your viewers will have no prior knowledge or understanding of these characters?

It rarely works. Maybe as a straight-to-DVD film, but as a feature?
  • WHAT KIND OF COMPUTER IS THAT IN THE PHOTO!!??!?!!?
  • Finkle
It's an Apple notebook computer with a decal digitally added so as to not look like an Apple commercial. In the original scene that the photo comes from, the Apple logo is not covered.
  • Um, I'm pretty sure he knew it was actually an Apple computer.

No it's not too late, we want a Veronica Mars movie and we are many to not give up !!!
  • k
I just want closure. I don't care if she's fifty working at seven eleven. What happened? sigh...Logan.

WE WANT A MOVIE. where should i send a complaint letter to?
  • tizzy08
it is a shame but if they hurried up and did it it wouldn'tbe that ridlouious because there and loads of questions left unaweserd and vm fans really seem upset with the last ep maybe they could make a short series (6-10) epiosodes to answer all the questions it would leave vm fans happy and it wouldn't take as long as a film but only if the main charaters are willing to come back and i think who veronica ends up with is the biggest questions and the one i want answerinmost
  • tizzy08
I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD MAKE A SHORT SEASON TO END THINGS BETTER BECAUSE I THINK ALL VM FANS FOUND THE LAST EP A GOOD EPIOSODE BUT A BAD WAY TO END THINGS WITH ALOT OF QUESTIONS UNANSWERED SO IF U WERE TO DO A SHORT SEASON IT WOULD TAKE LESS TIME AND IT WOULD BE CHEAPER AND IF U DO THEN IT WOULD TAKE LESS TIME TO PLAN BECAUSE YOU DON'T NEED TO CHANGE IT INTO FILM TYPE THING SO IT WOULDN'T BE AS RIDICUIOUS BECAUSE THE ACTORS WOULDN'T AS OLD AND U COULD DO THE END OF COLLAGE THING OR START FROM WHERE YOU FINSHED OFF .
    ......GOODBYE FOR NOW xOxO

I am rewatching Veronica Mars and I'm loving it more the second time around. I think the movie would be excellent. There is a massive following of Veronica Mars and Warner Bros are crazy not to take up this opportunity. Maybe they should try another movie studio one that produces more indie movies!!
  • Emma
You're right, we have the dvds- but Veronica and Logan break up in the series! They have to make a movie and stick those two back together!!!!
  • anjel78
I've just watched all three series back to back and loved every minute. Even though I enjoyed the last episode I really need answers to all the questions they left open with Keith, Jake Kane, Veronica, Logan and Piz. There was so much left open that a fourth series could of been made.

I would love the opportuity to have all these questions answered whether it be in a straight to DVD movie or a short series, I would buy it!!!
  • leebaybee
not true the dvd's arent enough at this point we dont get to see what happens to everyone and the only way to satisfy is by making the movie...i absolutly love the series jus rewatched all 3 season nd enjoyed them more than the 1st time i saw them. if warner bros and the maker wanna restore ratings for new tv shows to come they need to give the people what they want and that is A VERONICA MARS MOVIE and trust me people want to see it there about 500 fan sites of veronica mars on facebook alone and that doesnt even include the ratings it woul get from people who just fing movie previews exciting that would go watch it.
  • Ivy
The series finale was very unsatisfying. After watching all 3 seasons back to back, I was left very disappointed. Such a great show, really, I can't believe they cancelled them.

A movie would be ideal, but they shouldn't sit on it too long, exactly for what you mentioned. Everyone is getting older! It's been a few years... VM has an incredible following... if they give us hope for a movie, we'll make some noise and make it happen!
  • Name
Ok so ive watched the DVDs a million times already, im watching S3 now! (not to mention i had to ebay them to Australia) And as a loyal fan i say veronica mars was one of the best shows ever. Nothing will ever come close!
  • Tess
I am a huge fan of Veronica Mars it would be a huge shame if the movie was never made! There needs to be a end to the story! I'm from the UK and Veronica Mars repeats are shown everyday! Its such an original program I was gutted when it was cancelled! So please Warner bros. make the Veronica Mars movie and don't ruin it!!!
  • Alf
    Yes we need an ending
  • rach
we definatly need an eniding i love vm soooooooooooo much and i need to see what happens with everything like logan, piz and keith
  • Hatice
We need the movie. I hate the way season 3 ended. it wasn't like a proper ending. If Kristen and Rob Thomas are up for it, I can only blame the WB for not letting them make it. Is there any way to contact them?
  • vcullen
no need to fear at-least we know Logan and Veronica got back together.
Want to know how? watch all of THE VERONICA MARS SEASON 3 SPECIAL FEATURES AND THE SEASON FOUR CREDITS TO OK!?
    got to run have fun.
  • Hatice
Where can I watch the season 3 special features and season 4 credits? fskjas please reply
  • vcullen
    dam it!
  • Cecilia
Yeah, we do have the dvds, but THATS NOT ENOUGH! You guys cant end it the way you did! I want to see Veronica and Logan getting back together, and I'm sure everyone agrees with me. I am from norway, and me and my norwegianfriends(which is a whole bunch of people) are dying to see a movie! Please do this for us! I love V. Mars, and just cant get enough!
  • merri
i just want a proper ending to season 3 it ended so abruptly
  • kten
It ended crap it needs to be completed properly! surley fans deserve the right to have a completed story and not what "might have been" dont we deserve more???
  • Brittany
This really sucks and I think it was more of Veronica and her approach and sassiness that made the show wat it wad I think the show would have been made into something great but hey. N I think they owe it to the fans to give it a ending. I honestly eant the show back but I can settle for the movie
