The /Filmcast Interview is a series of conversations with actors, directors, and other key figures from the entertainment industry. In this episode, David Chen speaks with writer Mark Boal and legendary director Kathryn Bigelow about the process of creating their exciting new film, The Hurt Locker.

From the film’s production notes: “The Hurt Locker is a riveting suspenseful portrait of the courage under fire of the military’s unrecognized heroes: the technicians of a bomb squad who volunteer to challenge the odds and save lives in one of the world’s most dangerous places.” I’ve seen the film and think that it’s remarkable, functioning  as both an gripping action film and a moody war movie. Certainly for any /Film readers out there, it’s definitely worthy of your attention. The movie is out in theaters today in NY/LA and will expand wider in the weeks to come.

I'm so bummed that the film isn't playing near me, but once it does, I'm visiting "that place of ultimate pain", as Bigelow describes it.

If you search around, you can find the movie. I watched it with my wife a few weeks ago, it was a fantastic film. I watched it again a few days later, and it was even better. Really great movie!

You deleted my comment. NICE! So it's no OK to have a nit with the film? WOW.
  • Your comment gave away a spoiler about the end of the film.

Dave, you're right. OOps! Sorry man.

So, I hear there's going to be a Hurt Locker 2. Cool!

Kathyrn was really vague and didn't say much. Sort of a waste of time.

Nice interview, David C. It's great that you have been able to get these directors for something like this.

Hurt Locker is a very good film with some nice sequences. I'm not sure what the best ending for the film might be, but for some reason, the ending they have for the film bounced off me as a little out of step. Regardless, it's a great character film. Breakout role for Renner who is outstanding as James.

I think anyone expecting an action film or thriller might come away disappointed, but if you are interested in seeing some nicely drawn characters interacting in a very real (and absurd) element, the film is well worth the ticket.

Can't believe you didn't mention NEAR DARK or its impending horrible remake! Bigelow rocks!
