Transformers 2 viral

Did you know there was a viral marketing campaign going on to promote Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? You didn’t think those videos on youtube showing robotic alien sightings from around the globe were real, did you? I’ve heard these videos and the website, therealeffingdeal.com, play a big part in the film. Ramon Rodriguez’s character Leo runs the website which tries to uncover a conspiracy that giant robots are living on Earth. These videos appear on Leo’s blog.

For those of you who missed the action, check out the videos embedded after the jump. And watch carefully, because each of the home video recordings feature brief cameo appearances by Autobots and Decepticons.

    that was actually really cool
    im now excited again
    no thanks to the reviews
i dont give a fuck though
im spending all my money on this
  • justrobby
You gotta love viral marketing.. Cant wait to see ROTF
  • Andyrooskie
Okay, that was pretty cool. I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff.

How exactly would it be a conspiracy in the film, though? I mean, after the events at the end of the first movie. Robots destroying half of downtown LA and all. Some people might have noticed is I guess what I'm saying.
  • Saw a few of these the other day, seems like normal viral advertising to me.
  • Craigasorusrex
These are all really neat. The motor scooter one made me laugh.
  • [A]
The scooter one is very well done. The one in Spain is good too. Nice work. Better than the movie, definitely.
  • Palmer
Well, I have to hand it to them for putting it on sites like Dailymotion and Vimeo instead of just all on Youtube.
  • smrtalec
haha that was awesome. viral marketing is so cool.
  • perry
    kinda gay
  • Lance_HBomb
    lik u

    Virals are awesome.
  • automobot
i have a feeling the movie's going to be the same thing
waiting for the cool robots while having to sit through the pointless and terrible acting

Cloverfield had the best VA, in my opinion.
  • Goldfoot
I disagree because The Dark Knight had such an intricate scheme that lasted for months and involved fans in real world places. The only thing I remember about Cloverfield was a couple websites.
  • Lance_HBomb
Then again, The Dark Knight's viral was heavily inspired by Cloverfield. I'm sure if Cloverfield wasn't succesful, TDK would have no viral marketing.

Still, LOST gets the cred for the longest VA.

What does Picard /facepalming have to do with me?
  • True but you said best, not first. I would agree that The Dark Knights was better than Cloverfield while agreeing that without Colverfield there wouldn't have been one for The Dark Knight.
  • Goldfoot
I would say The Dark Knight's ARG was more inspired by Lost than Cloverfield, which wasn't even the first. This kind of marketing has been used for movies back to at least AI. The company that was behind The Dark Knight's also did viral marketing for AI before it came out. It's all on their website. http://www.42entertainment.com/
  • Yeah but you can't deny that Cloverfield was when it went mainstream.
  • spacedog128
i'm a fan of the viral marketing too -- these are pretty well made...

quickly change the focus and shake the camera to tease people into thinking something is really shot...

    love it...
  • I'm waiting for my neighbors pinto to transform into a hillbilly go-bot.
  • IronJ146
So, the scooter one...That was actually Skeeter from the Go-Bots, right? :D
  • pretty basic virals. consider me bored.
  • Koimbra
Where is the Transformer in the last video?:)
  • Caillte
Watch the tower on the right. You will see a small robot climb up and then jump off of it.
  • afaurote
Swinging from the tower on the right side of the frame about half way through.
  • Daffodil 11
Just saw this movie, it'll give you blockbuster fatigue. Feels way longer than it is. Too many characters, the twins are the most racially stereotypical characters since Jar Jar and Wato. Also the characterization of Jetfire is so Alan Moore that I checked the credits afterwards just to make sure he wasn't voicing him. Orci and Kurtzman said they only had days to outline this for pre-production before the writers strike and fuck is it obvious.
  • Cat
I saw one last night coming down the freeway last night in Philly!
  • thehandnin21
Does anyone remember the Year Zero viral campaign for Nine Inch Nails? I mean that was one of the best campaigns ever. Thumbdrives with new songs found in bathrooms? Secret shows? Meetings? Crazy websites?
  • The Motor Scooter was the best!! I wish my Scooter was a transformer. The only down side to this story is where did it go??
By the way, am I a nerd for having a Scooter?
  • TransFarmer
No, you're a nerd for wishing your scooter was a transformer.

On a related note: I wish my toilet was a woman...
