harry potter bumblebee

IMAX has pushed the IMAX release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince back two weeks to give Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen a four week run. Apparently Paramount signed a deal with IMAX to have the sequel shown exclusively in IMAX theatres for four full weeks if Michael Bay used IMAX cameras into the film’s production.

When Warner Bros moved the release of Half Blood Prince back to July 15th, they didn’t take into account Transformer’s IMAX exclusivity. So now Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince won’t be shown on IMAX screens until July 29th 2009, two weeks after its theatrical 35mm release. Will people wait to pay a premium price to see the few 3D sequences in the IMAX version?

  • ...lol. Poor Harry. Go PRIME!
  • I missed the first one... can't say I enjoy them ruining my childhood memories like that. Think I'll miss the second one as well.
  • Marcus
won't it have a 3D ending like the last one in IMAX?
  • JP62
I believe it will be at the beginning this time.
  • oh well, ill just see it in 35mm and then in imax later
  • Sweet pic, I think Harry Potter would be a welcome addition to the Transformers cast.
  • Lol, WB fail.

Still, with a film like Transformers, why would anyone see that in IMAX over HP? I mean, I've never really got why they put the HP series into IMAX. Never felt like it was THAT big
  • Harry Potter is one of the only movies that I am looking forward to this year, and now I have to wait even longer? Sniff.
  • doc
Harry Potter sucks anyway... its filled with crappy acting.
  • Dan
Harry Potter movies have Ralph Feinnes, Gary Oldman, David Thewlis, Alan Rickman, and Michael Gambon

    Transformers has Shia Lebouf.

What's that you said about crappy acting?
  • andy
    you forgot Maggie Smith!
  • Kaimelar
Agree with that... Who's lookinf for acting in transformeres anyway?? I'm looking for robots and Megan Fox hahahah. Anyway I like both series, huge fan of potter books, fo of course i'm expecting the 6th film anxiously
  • justinbobby
    megan fox is a joke...
  • rafaelito
I'm wondering what movies for you have good acting because one of the things of HP movies is the kids are more mature and the acting gets better and better.
  • Jennifer
LOL awwwee cry me a river potter fans
  • Josh
This story is wrong, Harry Potter will have 3D sequences only in IMAX
  • Might want to reread the article. While the sentence could have been written a little better to be more implicit about the fact... I got it.
  • charles
I think I'm going to see Transformers 2 now.
  • Anti-Septic
Screw Harry Potter, make me wait another 8-9 months for a July release date. Its actually what they deserve. I'll probably see it on regular screen as my daughter is a fan, but I wont wait extra weeks to see or pay for an Imax viewing.

Transformers is what I am interested in.
  • ymax
Maybe it's just me, but Harry Potter seems like a movie I'd be okay with watching in a normal theater while Transformers 2 is something I don't wanna miss in IMAX.
  • mtv
One thing you all forget transformers is cut like an mtv music video. Only an idiot would go see it
in Imax unless you enjoy having a major eye headache. Bring plenty of drammamine
  • mtv
    Y
You're all forgettng transformers is cut like an Mtv music video. If you're seeing this on realmax than you either enjoy getting eye aches or you've come prepared with drammamine. Either way your paying to be hurt. Even cameron toned down the rapid cutting for Avatar cause he knows
he doesn't want to make the audience sick.
  • Harry Potter movies aren't the most impressive things I've seen, but compared to Transformers 2? The first movie sucked. The second movie will suck. Michael Bay movies suck. How do people get suckered into this? I hate Shia. I question seeing any movie he is in. I even wondered about Indy 4 and I now wish I had gone with my gut instinct and not watched that travesty.
  • Richard
You suck shit man you take that back about bay, Go on watch your harry potter shit dickhead
  • Richard are you......Michael Bay?
  • CrazyMan
bay is gay, and thats all i have to say, oh and transformers sucks balls compared to harry potter
  • WidescreenWonderland
    Completely owned!
  • WidescreenWonderland
    Soooooo owned!
  • BOOO!!!! I saw HP5 in IMAX in Mexico (closest IMAX) and I thought the 3D sequence was the best. I then saw it in 35mm and it was not that same experience. Hopefully in Mexico they won't delay it.
  • I really don't mind the wait for this but I have to say, whoever did the work to make the image at the top of this article is awesome.
  • thanks
  • thanks. sometimes my bad photoshop skills produce something passable :)
  • I'm not looking forward to Harry Potter or Transformers. Bring on Shutter Island, The Informant, A Serious Man, Avatar, etc!
  • Dan
Ugh, what a stupid move. Harry Potter >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Transformers.
  • Michestellar
Goddamn it. The next thing I'm going to hear is that all of the reels were taken by a giant horde pterodactyls and they're going to have to reshoot the entire film.
  • tone
good. id rather see transformers 2x instead of harry potter once.
  • Boxoffice Marco
If the Transformers IMAX run ends on July 22nd, why does Harry Potter have to wait an extra week to get started on the 29th? Couldn't WB bring in Harry Potter on the 22nd after the Transformers contract expires, delaying the film by only a week instead of two?
  • Johan
NO, no noooo! Fuck Warners! I was planning to catch Transformers in it´s last week on Imax and then see Harry Potter first day relase on Imax too. It was going to be a sweet summer. I can´t travel to the city with Imax theaters twice. Fuck you Warners! And fuck you Paramount too. You greedy fucks! Two weeks is enough for Transformers on Imax. You ruined my summer.
  • Crazyman
yea 4 real dude, i mean star trek was fuckin amazing and it only had 2 weeks in imax
  • Johan
Well, dude over here in Europe they didn´t even show Star Trek where I live and it isn´t even that small a city, so I had to travel to another city... You guys in the states are lucky. At least I´m quite sure I´ll catch both Transformers and Avatar on quite big screens.
  • WhoCares?
...It's just a fun summer movie- They didn't make Optimus Prime a hybrid or something. It's not like this movie is desecrating the show or the toys: the show was made to sell toys in the first place- to make money- just like this movie is doing.
  • Geez. Maybe the next Transformers film won't be the awful suckfest that the first one was. Maybe there won't be any John Turturro in his underwear. Maybe there won't be fat guys running through glass. Maybe there won't be FREAKING TRANSFORMERS RUNNING AROUND HIDING LIKE THE THREE STOOGES. Probably not. The 'Harry Potter' films "suck" however because they're not about giant robots.
Any of you who are deluding yourself that Michael Bay knows how to make a good film have been in denial since 'The Rock.' The 'Harry Potter' films have gotten better and better and are actually more serious and dramatic than Transformers. Something must be backwards in the world.
Besides, what kind of a D-Bag that actually cares about 'Transformers 2' isn't going to see it in IMAX in the first two weeks?
I understand that a contract is a contract, but all of you who say that Potter sucks need to get some taste. The fact that you keep going to and supporting crappy popcorn like Michael Bay's nonsense makes you part of the problem.

Dude transformers did the good parts well. The end battle scene was the biggest rapage my eyes had ever seen. Don't deny it...
  • Hanad

  • The first Transformers was just a cartoon on steroids and a high budget commercial for Hasbro and Chevy. I'm not saying that the Potter movies are instant classics, but at least they have a plot and the characters have some depth. Many Potter movie fans have also read the books. You CAN'T say that about Transformers fans because it's based on cheap toys that turned into a lousy cartoon. Then again, anyone that liked the first Transformers have probably never read a book because they spent their time playing with their robot dolls and watching cartoons. I bet you can't wait for the Stretch Armstrong movie to come out. Shut your big Yappers!!!
  • hiker545
booted again! and even on the 29 its limited areas, not at any of the 7 Imax's with in driving rage of us. Good news, guess I'll save money and they loose. sigh
  • PhantomAR
Oh, it's big for IMAX don't worry. The magics coming throughout, the brooms and etc.. just wait for it! :)
  • MBF
IDIOTS!!!! They pushed it back so long that it lost its momentum and now we cant even see the premiere in IMAX? Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

At this point, I am so disgusted, I dont even want to see it anymore.
  • KLJ
This is crap, especially since Transformers 2 sucked so much. I feel like I was ripped off, and I got free tickets to Transformers 2...it sucked that bad. HP6 is what I want to see in IMAX, not crap!
