Michael Dougherty (X2, Superman Returns) announced at Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors that WildStorm Comics would be releasing a graphic novel adaptation of Trick ‘R Treat on October 7th. Dougherty tells /Film:

I grew up on old horror comics, and they were a huge inspiration for Trick ‘r Treat, so it’s been great working with DC and WildStorm to keep the anthology genre alive while also giving people a sneak peek at some of the twisted fun they’ll see in the movie.

Written by Marc Andreyko (Manhunter, Torso), featuring art by Mike Huddleston (Man-Bat, Gen 13), Grant Bond, Christopher Gugliotti (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and Fiona Staples (North 40), and a cover designed by Breehn Burns. We have an EXCLUSIVE first look at the cover (above) and first five pages (avaialble after the jump), art by Fiona Staples.

So is the movie not getting a theatrical release?
  • From what I've read it has a very limited theatrical release. A few festivals here and there. The one's I remember offhand are in Montreal, Toronto, and Austin I believe.
  • This looks gimmicky. Why no theatrical release?
  • Cole
The graphic novel looks pretty sick. But why not a REAL theatrical release???
  • Very disappointing about how the movie's being tossed under the bus. Incoherent crap like Meet the Spartans gets a wide release, and this gets bupkis?

(It occurs to me now that I have no idea how to spell "bupkis." Just taking a shot there.)

Anyway, the graphic novel looks pretty cool, at least.
  • Everything I've heard about this movie has been positive. I am solglad I'll be able to see it now but still.

    Fucking Saw.

Its sucks that this isn't getting a theatrical release but I'm going to buy the dvd cause all I've heard was positive things about it.
  • that's sad no theater release. I'm usually not a big fan of horror, but I think this looks like a very interesting movie! I would even go see it in the theater!
  • No movie yet but already a comic wth. I've been waiting to see the movie and only heard great things about it. Screw the comic how about a release date for the movie on DVD.
  • sam
um, the comic was done to be released as a weekly mini last october ( the last scheduled release of TRT). it is being packaged as a graphic novel timed to be released simultaneously w/ the dvd.

and TRT is getting a platform release across the uS starting in July.

I have been waiting for 2 years to see this movie. I'm pissed it wont be in theaters but at least its getting released.
  • I haven't read a comic in forever! I also have been waiting 2 years for this fucking movie... ever since the preview with 300! (Fucking Saw!) I cannot wait for this movie to come out and I'll probably get the comic too. I am suck a Halloween junkie!
  • I meant such! I'm sorry! By the way... what the hell happened with the movie anyway? Why didn't they ever release it in the theater's?
  • Looks like a halloween comics to the max and upgraded to a DVD? Care for an update.
