halloween 2

Dimension Films has released a behind the scenes featurette for H2 on YouTube. The video explains that Rob Zombie’s Halloween sequel is unlike anything you have seen before in the series, and is a lot more realistic. If that’s a good thing or not, I’m not quite sure. I wasn’t really a fan of Zombie’s remake. Watch the clip after the jump.

Also of note, the film was titled H2 but all the titling on Dimension’s official YouTube page reads “Halloween II“. Have they decided to revert back to the full franchise name? Did I miss the memo? The H2 title always seemed like a horrible marketing decision. I understand that Zombie is doing everything he can to distinguish this from the original movies, but mainstream America needs to see the word “Halloween.”

  • The title is a legal issue, that is all.
  • Legal issue or not Halloween II vice H2 is a huge improvement on the title.
  • I'm down for it.
I thought his first one was decent, err, at least an improvement from the original.

I just realized that the Spock/Kirk fight in Star Trek was more physical than most scenes in the horror genre. I'd appreciate some good, visceral punches to the gut.

    Phew?
  • Ah, in Halloween 3 Micheal Myers becomes a MMA Fighter!
  • No, Malek Akkad owns rights to the title, NOT Universal. Universal only owns ONE thing for Halloween II & III, and that is DISTRIBUTION. No story rights or anything, just DISTRIBUTION.

The title is NOT a legal issue :)
  • Oh, I guess you were on the set to hear that bit. Everyone seems to prefer this title over H2, for obvious reasons.
  • No, but I talk to Scout and Sheri quite a bit. And it kinda irritates me that Universal won't even give Anchor Bay "Box Set-only" rights to make a (albeit incomplete) box set featuring the first five movies, at least there'd be no gap :)

And IMO, the 30th anniversary set is not a "Box Set," per se, as everyone concieves a boxset, its really just a nice collector's edition of the ORIGINAL with 4 & 5 as extras.

I've alsways thought H2 was alright but its too close to H20
  • I'm ready for disappointment

I just want these trendy shorting of titles to appear hip to stop. Rarely have I heard anyone refer to these shorthand logo titles.

While I didn't really like his first Halloween movie that much, I'm interested to see how the second one turns out. As long as its better then the first then that's alright with me.
  • IT WAS ALWAYS HALLOWEEN II ... H2 WAS JUST A SHORT VERSION. WAKE UP!
  • All the marketing for Terminator 2 back in the day was T2. I really don't get what the big deal is about.
  • me neither...
  • Halloween 2 is definitely a better title, I guess.
  • vva
They advertised Terminator 2 as both T2 BUT also Terminator 2: Judgment Day in the trailers and posters. This film is advertising AS H2. So until the next trailer says Halloween II... it's officially H2 for now.
  • I haven't seen the remake of this (Halloween) but from what I've seen of other Rob Zombie films this has to be good. In his other movies he has a way of making you cringe and want to look away in a good way.
  • I look forward to Zombie's 'H20:2' ten years down the line. How many does he need to make?
  • I like the name change. H2 kept making me think of the bad kind of hummers.
Side note: Halloween 3 (in the original series) was the only one not to star Michael Myers. It's about witches, Irish people making halloween masks and brain control, standard genre movie.
  • edog
Standard genre movie my ass. It was a laughably bad film that existed outside of the Michael Myers universe entirely. It MUST BE SEEN for the scene where they test out their halloween mask on an unsuspecting family.

Also of note, the brain control is real. Once you've seen it, you will never get the Silver Shamrock theme song out of your head. Ever! (26 years and counting!)
  • The thing that killed Rob Zombie's first try at the franchise was the origin story. We don't need to know why hes a deranged killer. Its best to leave that to the imagination. I was looking forward to H2 until I watched the trailer. The whole thing with Michael Myer's mother (Zombie's wife) coming back as some kind of ghost and ordering Myers around seems really idiotic.
  • really not sure how the ghost thing is gonna play out but I'm not liking it either
  • larry
dumb as dirt'' nothing beats the original' stop the remakes people, theyr'e getting old, boring, and a travesty to our classic movies.

I just don't understand people hating on the remake and the sequel (which hasn't even come out yet) to such an extent.

I for one HATED 'House of 1000 Corpses' but I loved Devil's Rejects and as a huge fan of Carpenter's Halloween, I was excited to see something different with Zombie's remake.

I just don't get so many "fans" so upset about the sequel and Rob's involvement

I mean does no one remember Halloween: Ressurection? with who was that, Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks? Bottom line is I'm relieved Zombie stepped in, studio was going to go forward with a sequel either way, I am for one excited it's something totally new.

Sidebar: Sheri Moon is hot, bring on the dream sequences.

Rob Zombie's "Halloween" remake was a travesty - it bastardized the entire "Halloween" franchise. The fact that he has been given the reins for a sequel to his cacophony of mish-mashed ideas is laughable. Zombie's first "Halloween" was a hit because of its ties to Carpenter's original, not because it was any good. If the franchise was really headed towards a future of direct-to-DVD sequels, Dimension Films has solidified that possibility by Zombie control of the franchise. Zombie's "Halloween II" will no doubt put the final nail in "Halloween's" movie coffin.

u have a point. i think that rob zombie's first remake was awful. this one will most definately not be any better.
  • I'm in based on this featurette, but I wish Zombie's tone was more reverencial of Carpenter. I mean, he is taking Carpenter's world and spinning it into something of his own, but it is still Carpenter's world. He could at least throw the man some props. Seems a little dickish.

Since watching the Devil's Rejects behind-the-scenes, Zombie has been on my radar as a talant to watch. Halloweenwas a bit of a mess, but he made some really interesting choices and took the franchise in a fresh direction. This could be the capper and if donewell could meld with the first film to solidify Zombie's take on the world.
