AVATAR Trailer on Transformers 2?

avatar_screen
The trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar might be attached to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. This according to MarketSaw’s two trusted sources. It certainly makes sense that Fox would like to get the trailer on the big screen in front as many people as possible, but I’m surprised that Cameron would be okay with the trailer not being projected in 3D. There isn’t a 3D release before the end of the year that Avatar would be a good fit for, and Transformers four-quadrant sci-fi audience is a perfect match.

According to the report, the trailer is 2 minutes and 41 seconds long, meaning it would be 20th Century Fox’s MPAA exception of the year. The MPAA allows a trailer to be a maxim of two minutes and a half, with each studio allowed one exception per year. Apparently the trailer would be broadcast in 3D on Digital screens and potentially also IMAX, but most of the theaters screening the Transformers 2 sequel would be left without 3D glasses. This makes me a bit skeptical. This also means the audiences in Digital theaters would be given 3D glasses just for the trailers, which seems a bit odd.

  • I love James Cameron !
And i can`t wait to see the trailer !
  • freemachine
    Who doesn't?
  • Peter
I have a feeling this is bogus, but either way my AMC probably won't show it because they suck and never show the new attached trailers (District 9!!!)
  • Joe
No way would they do 3D just for a trailer. Not to mention fox wants to start charging theaters for the glasses instead of having it built into the rental price for the flick.
  • The_Scumfrog
    For FOX sake!!
  • Eric
actually, they did display the Ice Age 3 trailer in 3D; so it has been done. However, that was in front of a 3D movie--coraline or bolt, i can't remember.
  • yes yes yes!!!!

And yeah, Peter I agree, AMC never shows crap for trailers. It's so disappointing.
  • Mark Smith
I used to work at an AMC and when we building movies we were allowed to put whatever trailers on whatever as long as the last trailer was from the same studio as the movie showing. Sometimes we got instructions with trailers for example Cloverfield we were told to show in front of the original Transformers. (Why isn't the Facebook connect working?)
  • mbellerbrock
I saw District 9 in front of Wolverine and Star Trek at my AMC.
  • Lawdog
Well, I guess I have a reason to go see Transformers now.
  • I still bet it's going to be on ICE AGE 3- FOX and 3D!
  • who cares how weird and nonsensical it is? we get to see it (allegedly)!!!
  • Justin
I could have guessed this. After Wolverine (Fox release), Star Trek (sci fi), and Terminator (more sci fi) nothing else really made sense. Public Enemies and Harry Potter are two other big releases, but Public Enemies won't be massive on the scale that Fox wants, and HP isn't the demographic.
  • HP isn't the demographic but it will be in IMAX 3D so it's still a possibility.
  • JoShmo
Giving theater goers 3-D glasses for just this trailer would increase the buzz for this film EXPONENTIALLY! Could you imagine the amount of hype it would cause if people are told "These glasses are for a trailer not the movie". I think it would get people talking. DO ITTT!!
  • Andrew
Yeah, Transformers seems like a logical choice, even though it's not a Fox release (if it was, then the studio would be able to profit off of it SOOOO much more).
    Please, show us SOMETHING! ANYTHING!
  • bob
the last airbender is being attached the Transformers 2, would be weird to have two avatar movies attached to transformers
  • that would be sick. avatar trailer before rotf!
  • Joe
I'd put my money on Ice Age 3-D, myself, and they could put it on other 3-D movis coming out over the rest of the summer like the horrors (Final Destination 4) and the animated films (Cloudy W/ Meatballs?)

Not to mention Harry Potter in IMAX 3-D
  • 1st "The last airbender - based on The Nikelodeon Avatar series". 2nd: "Avatar - a James Cameron movie." Audience: "What the beep!? That looks pretty good to be on Nikelodeon!"
  • If I had to guess why it's not on Terminator I'd say it's because Cameron doesn't want to us to so easily associate anything from that colossal pile of shit with "Avatar". Even if Worthington is quite good in it.
  • whats the point of having a trailer in anything other than 3d if that's what this whole thing has been about?
  • worthington is in Terminator. why wouldn't he want people to associate the two movies? it's a way to promote him without paying for advertising.
  • Because Terminator Salvation was terrible. That's just my bitterness at wasting two hours of my life leaking out though. If there had been an Avatar trailer attached I would have left the theater upbeat about something.,
  • If he didn't want to "associate it with a colossal pile of shit" then Transformers 2 wouldn't have Avatar in front of it.
  • Attach it to Terminator Salvation.
    1. Cameron's franchise sorta.
    2. I WANT TO SEE IT RIGHT NOW

Or attach it to whatever film they want. I just hope it's soon.

I haven't seen anything from this film apart from some silhouette of an alien and some set photos-oh wow a green wall!
I don't even know what font the title is in.
New Times Roman? Bank Gothic? Helvetica?
  • if not this, then what else? the summer is pretty barren for huge event movies.

    ice age isn't the demographic.
  • Jake
Well now, accodring to MarketSaw, this is FAKE.
  • Michael Stat
Hey this is Michael from MarketSaw - the pictures of the trailers are fake, but the trailer may still be in front of TF2. The sources who told us about the trailer being in front of TF2 are not related to the person who sent the fake images. Also, FOX says their plans are still not 100% certain, but the rep I talked to still thinks Comic-Con is most likely to be the big reveal.
  • I cannot wait to see this trailer & film. My expectations are high, but I have plenty of faith in him as a filmmaker. 3-fucking-D baby!!!!
  • Weyland_Yutani
I know that a big part of Avitar is supposed to be the "groundbreaking tech," but if it doesn't play well without the 3-D, it's going to suffer considerably. Cameron is talented and savvy enough to create different trailers for different screens.

Again, if all you are hyped about ( with regard to a new James Cameron film) is the 3D, you aren't really thinking clearly about what should be anticipated.
  • freemachine
I guess I'll be seeing Transformers 2 after all...once this is confirmed.

EDIT: Ok, dammit, I'll probably see it anyway. I should know better, but sometimes I can't help myself...like slamming shots of tequila. It always seems like a good idea, but you ultimately find yourself in the bathroom wondering "WHY!!!???"
  • haha so true.

be careful, i went to wolverine thinking i'd see a transformers 2 trailer and they didn't have one. i was like wtf!
  • CyberG4
Hopefully they have 3D glasses for the trailer. I already promised to take my younger sister to Transformers 2 in IMAX so hopefully they can give me some added value to seeing Transformers.
  • so much excitement without any info - no images, etc.

in an age where photo's and podcasts and such show people so much before the movie comes out, i think it's admirable to keep this under wraps yet still drive anticipation...
  • Edward
releasing it online would be the smart thing. they arent going to hand out 3d glasses for just a trailer anyway so the only summer option is ice age and thats obviously not going to happen.
  • Edward
better yet do a 5-10 minute trailer on dvd, package some glasses and sell at best buy. then in a month or so people can bring those glasses to the theater and watch the normal 2-3min trailer on what ever digital print the theater is playing.
  • living life so fast that I just know my films
  • It will not be "attached" to Transformers 2, the studios attach a film from their own studio. The trailer may be in the can and debut with Transformers, but there is no way that Paramount would use its very valuable attached trailer spot for another studio's film.
  • shadow
unless the other studio pays out the ass to get it
