Paris, Not France Movie Trailer

Paris, Not France

Paris, Not France is a “controversial” 68-minute documentary about model/actress/businesswoman/heiress Paris Hilton that premiered at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival. Before the festival began, the film’s three scheduled screenings were reduced to one, with rumors running rampant over lawsuits or various legal concerns from the Hilton camp.

But the film itself was not the exposé that most people were hoping for or expecting, and was actually panned by most critics for being uninteresting and whitewashed. The trailer has now been released online. Watch it now after the jump.

Official Plot Description: “PARIS, NOT FRANCE provides an intimate and provocative look at the world’s first new media star - Paris Hilton. Shot in London, New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, the film explores the business of being Paris Hilton, and the human being that lies beneath the public persona.  Adria Petty’s documentary attempts to explore how the Paris phenomenon came to be, and how it defines this moment in culture.  With additional commentary from the Hilton family, friends and media experts ranging from Donald Trump, Camille Paglia, Jeff Vespa of WireImage, Richard Johnson of Page Six and more, the film poses the ultimate questions - What is so fascinating about Paris Hilton? And why are we such a celebrity obsessed culture? “

  • That trailer wasn't at all convincing. I suppose those who will see this are those who already have some interest in Paris Hilton.

Now, if it's a piece on the public's obsession with celebrity culture, that would be of more interest to me. But to focus on Paris seems a bit premature.

The public's obsession with celebrity culture, at least pertaining to Paris Hilton, is a flawed notion. Most everyone I know who mentions Paris Hilton does so because he wishes she would vanish from the public sphere. It's the media that needs her to be her to disguise any actual attempt at reporting news. Britney Spears, for instance, is absolutely repulsive and should've been expunged from the media years ago, yet the media continues to report on her. Meanwhile, important news gets the backseat. Blame CNN, Fox News, et. all for Paris; they could easily turn the other cheek and Americans would breathe a sigh of relief. It's sad that now the legacy of Paris Hilton has reached the point where faux documentaries such as this are meant to give us "sobering insight" into Miss Hilton, continually perptuating the annoyance that won't go away.
  • You're completely wrong. CNN, Fox News, MSNBC et. are first and foremost businesses they are only interested in giving people what they want to see and read. If the stories about Paris Hilton on there respective websites didn't get 10x as many hits then the stories about the Iraq war they wouldn't report on her anymore. In other words don't blame the drug dealer blame the addict. As for this documentary my only hope is it points out how silly excessive love or hate for a celebrity really is.
  • Stranger
    I'm not completely wrong.
They create the addicts. They are the suppliers of the drug, and, yes, people consume it. But they choose what drugs to supply.
And paradoxically, you validate my argument: CNN, Fox, NBC are businesses; but they could create as much interest in real issues if they so chose. They have the research and funding to do so.
There are actual psychological reasons people choose, on average, the Hilton stories over those of the Iraq war. I agree.
But how do you explain how people have become addicts in the first place?
I respect your opinion, but I still feel mine is valid. And why are you defending CNN, etc. over the the greater good of the American public?
I'll meet you in the middle and say it's a symbiosis of addict and supplier. But where to go from here?
Besides, my point was really this level of media - documentary - for Paris Hilton is getting WAY out of hand.
  • I'm not really defining the news I'm just saying that they don't care ether way. They're like Walmart they're only interested in selling what people want to buy. If tomorrow news stories about African tree frogs suddenly became really popular 90% the stories on cable news would be about African tree frogs. There are really good new sources that just report about important stories but they don't make nearly the revenue of Fox and CNN.

Also there is an interesting movie here some where, just look at the visceral reactions this post has gotten which indicates to me that there probably is a good documentary exploring her celebrity that can be made but from the trailer this doesn't look to be it.

i gotta be honest: you both brought up excellent & valid points that i didn't expect from a paris hilton talkback. i too think that somewhere in this doc could be a really good story about the obsession of the celebrity culture.

i don't know this girl, and i suppose i would feel some sympathy for the public humiliations she has endured, but she has done - and continues to do it to herself.
  • You're completely wrong. CNN, Fox News, MSNBC et. are first and foremost businesses they are only interested in giving people what they want to see and read, they don't really care what it is. Why would they want to push Paris Hilton stories on a public that didn't want it? The fact is if the stories about Paris Hilton on there respective websites didn't get 10x as many hits then the stories about the Iraq war they wouldn't report on her anymore. In other words don't blame the drug dealer blame the addict. As for this documentary my only hope is it points out how silly excessive love or hate for a celebrity really is.
  • why would anyone want to watch a documentary about a stupid, whiney, spoiled, herpes-infested whore who became famous for being rich and making a sex tape? oh, right. Actually, a lot of people would watch that. Ugh.
  • AASDFG
    You're a fucking loser dude.
  • jason B
why is she a loser? cuz her opinion is different from yours? i think broomstick actually hit the nail om the head in her own sarcastic way.
  • thanks, Jason!
  • edc2
    no, you are a loser.
    aasdfg was right.

or do you not like being thought of badly? you know, instead of being called a human you are called a loser, or stupid and whiney that must be terrible, what kind of person dismisses your humanity like that?
  • gregcharles
    Sounds dramatic--I'd see it.
  • I would. But only if the annoying infected rich bitch dies in the end. Horribly. B)
  • Paris Hilton needs to disappear. I've had enough of seeing her all over the place on the web. She contributes absolutely nothing and only represents the ugly narcissistic culture that is growing out of hand with certain individuals not only in the US but all over the world.
  • Stranger
Even an expose is too much exposure.
  • I'm trying to think of a woman who is a smart, sexy, celebrity scientist that we are all obsessed with? The only person I can think of is Kari Byron.
  • edc2
    she sucks.
  • Dear god why?
  • "Paris, Not France is a “controversial” 68-minute documentary about model/actress/businesswoman/heiress"

Peter you forgot she is a singer too.

The trailer was awful. I don't want to watch 70 minutes of a drama queen.
  • tunaonrice
I can't believe they used Micheal Nyman's score in this movie. Gross!
  • vivivi
do you know the name of the songs used?
  • ziggi
if she doesnt die in this movie, no one will ever watch it.
  • poontang
"world’s first new media star" <- that is possibly the worst written phrase I have ever seen,
  • Even the trailer is boring. I can't imagine sitting through 2 hours of that.
  • agreed
  • She is trying too much to correct her image, trying to be more bohemian and artsy, but the fact remains the same - she is still incredibly stupid.
You want to change honey? Read a book, if you know how to read, and not the one with pictures that you color. Go to college and study, or hire bunch of professors that can tutor you. High education is what you need, not some stupid movies about your stupid life.

"How I am in public is not how I am in private". Jeez, what a walking cliche! o.0
  • starscream9289
Why on Earth would I wanna waist 68 minutes of my life on this crap?

I'm not even gonna waist 2:52 minutes of my life watching the trailer.
  • actress/businesswoman??? THAT'S A LAUGH!!!
  • oh em gee
  • Brad
If they couldn't find even ONE remotely interesting clip for the trailer, I don't imagine any will magically materialize in the remaining 66 minutes of the film.
  • deadmoines
    Is Paris even relevant anymore?
  • nomad
Its a 68 minute lobotomy, after the movie you're as dumb as paris.
  • mixmasterangel
she should make snuff films, that would be more interesting to look at XD
  • poughkeepsiejohn
I've always felt that Paris Hilton represents everything that people have always hated about the rich in America. And in this recession, a person like that doesn't deserve sympathy, let alone a documentary.
  • curiseman
trumps daughter or hiltons daughter. which should we feel sorry for? the one that their parents don't care about them......paris
  • twofortheroad
any parent who would push their daughter to be in the spot light, like paris hiltons parent, are awful parents. they know she is not smart enough to speak in public.
  • Butch
Paris is Hot. The hatred heaped on her and Britney is just stupid. Paris did not ask to be born super rich. Britney had no childhood to speak of...she's been on stage her entire life. Neither of them are perfect.....so what? Why are all you judgemental critics so mean? I have'nt watched this movie....I'm not that interested. But I like Paris...and I like Britney. They are just like everyone else, trying to live their lives as they see fit. And they are Hot. Paris, you are super Hot, and I think your critics are just jealous.
  • Pearse
She wanted to be like Princess Diana and people she looked up to? LOL. How UNIQUE that makes her. She must have been the only little girl in the world who wanted to be princess Di ! LOL. How come nobody wants to be unknown and work with the poor? The world sucks, and Paris Hilton makes it even worse
  • Angel
I love Paris Hilton. She is my idol and she is sweet and caring and I like her because she doesn't give a crap what people think. You people are so money hungry and jelous of her you have to bring her down. We don't give a shit if your going to watch her documentry or not? if you dont like her why do you respond to her documentry? if you didn't like her you wouldn't be wasting your time brining her down. You all need lives.
  • brianlhollon
Paris is a fucking idiot...doe she not understand Britney pulled this off last year with For The Record...get an original concept Paris, like another sex tape...
  • carter_isom
Paris, Not France will be aired on MTV Tuesday July 28th at 8:30pm
  • Ambiguous
I have an ambiguous view of Paris Hilton. First, I do not think she is an airhead (Note: See Jessica Simpson and Pamela Anderson). I think she knows how to play the media and keep the cash rolling in. In my opinion, I think that is pure genius! There are always a million strange ways to make money! My second opinion of Paris Hilton, getting people to look past the image that you created for yourself will not work. (Unless you're Beyonce v Sasha Fierce). I have no idea who your agent is, but in my opinion, you want to change your image? Lay low, and keep out of the 'limelight' unless you're doing something positive. Keep your boyfriends to a minimum...and stop partying!!!!
  • Rachel
it was really good. it honestly surprised me.
