Reliance Big Entertainment has found writers for the big screen film adaptation of Robb Liefeld’s comic book series Youngblood which Brett Ratner attached to direct. Liefeld tells MTV that J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani have been working on a now half-way completed first draft of the screenplay. Lavin and Damiani are also attached to the Bryan Singer-produced Liefeld comic book adaptation Capeshooters at Warner Bros.

Liefeld says that the movie will be in the same tone as Iron Man, and rated a hard-PG-13. The film will tell the story of Shaft and Chapel, the bow-wielding marksman and gun-toting former soldier who have to put aside their differences to save the Youngblood program, a high-profile super-team sanctioned and overseen by the United States Government.

At the time of its release, Youngblood #1 was the highest selling independent comic book ever, but according to wikia.com, Youngblood was criticized for poor writing and inconsistent art, but mostly for its lateness. So maybe the title is pefect for Ratner after all. You can buy the first volume of the series in hardcover on Amazon for around $25.

It's funny how you consistency declare about your hate to Ratner but strongly support the even less talented, more hatred director Michael Bay. at least in Ratner’s action sequences you can understand what's going on in front of you.
  • At least Michael Bay has style, and sometimes makes me laugh. Brett Ratner produces mediocre film efforts, middle of the road, not bad, not good, just blah.
  • Daniel
I will admit he hes a great sense of humor, but what is this "style" you're talking you're?

  • I'm with Peter. Bay is great at doing action. I don't remember anything I ever saw from Ratner but some of the Bay action is amazing.
  • Daniel
So you one of those guys who likes that their action sequences are a big mess and all over the place, misunderstood and give you a headache? Well, good for you. But personally, i prefer my action sequences stable, understandable and enjoyable.
By the way, i didn't see a disagreement from Peter side about the action sequences in Bay's movies.
  • Michael Bay's movies are FUN to watch, but there's no substance behind the "stories." His movies will be easily forgotten in about 10 years. His movies will not hold up in 2020, unlike intelligent, well-done action films.

That being said, he's a good gimmicky filmmaker, but he's not an artist.
  • Daniel
But i didn't talked about the intelligent of his movies, but about the fact that is an action director who doesn't know how to handle action sequences. Or, in short: Bay is a terrible action director, most likely the worst working today. Personally i think he should move to comedy (and not the kind with action in it). *That* will be the best for all. He may even finally get some love from the critics.

"Personally i think he should move to comedy (and not the kind with action in it). *That* will be the best for all. He may even finally get some love from the critics"

Actually, there is also a another way.. like.. Bay could learn how to handle is action sequences and not make them into a one big mess but understandable and enjoyable.
  • I think at least Bay has some style to his movies, while Ratner is the world's most generic director.
  • Daniel
I didn't say it isn't true, but even so, even if Bay really has some sort of style, is a bad action director, is action sequences are a big misunderstood mess. You really can't say the same thing about Ratner, and for that, at least, he deserve some credit.
  • if i had to pick the two of those directors to film my movie..i would actually kill myself!

Michael Bay is a mess but he makes beautiful messes. However, his ego will get in the way and he'll leave his mark on any movie that he works on. For example, Transformers is not as fanboy friendly as it should be because Bay doesn't want to cater to that crowd. On the other hand, JJ Abrams wanted to make a Star Trek film for everbody, and that's what he did.

Brett does do action well, and he's more of a yes man, so that probably why he gets gigs: his track record is actually consistently profitable. But he's also very paint-by-the-numbers too, so his boring style makes me cringe.

I guess I would have to pick Brett for my movie if I had to choose only because he'll do it for the money, and thus, not totally go gung ho.
  • Daniel
Oh, now we agree on something (-:

It's like my friend said: Bay only good in two things: humor and explode things nicely.
  • gah
why must every brett ratner post have to have a michael bay argument? they arent even similar at all.
  • Goobity
It's ROB Liefeld. It's right there on the poorly drawn cover.
  • I'm still waiting for the headline "Hack Director Brett Ratner"
  • shameless
i'm hoping for "director brett ratner hacked to death by a mob of disappointed comic book fans"
  • Wow

Ratner a mediocre/hack director is adapting Robb Liefeld's (a copycat/hack comic book artist/writer) comic "Youngblood".

This will probably turn out like "C.G.I Joe: Rise of the Turd" or worse.
  • I think it's hilarious how fitting this team up is.
  • Hahha..I know. This is like the the closet gay guy asking the confused lesbian to homecoming. It just works out into a mess where no one wins or understands anything more thn when they went in.

That cover reminded my why I didn't read Liefeld's comics.
  • The perfect match of mediocrity. I don't know if any of you have seen this article on how much of a poor artist Rob Liefeld is:

  • gah
well at least its not anything we care about like Conan or Bev Hills cop
  • How does Ratner keep getting work? He's a mediocre director overall, with Rush Hour 3 being one of the most painful to watch movies i've seen.
  • he gets work for the same reason Wild Hogs made lots of money... middle of the road comedies work extremely well in middle of the road america, sadly
  • Rob Liefeld's art is pretty damn bad.
  • btw, Ratner has that sort of a face that you just want punch. Doesn't he or am I the only one?
  • GL 2814.1
Ratner and Liefeld? Its a match made in hack heaven!
  • ratner looks like such a douche

red dragon is pretty good though
  • David
Some people ask, "How could a crass hack like Ratner be a well-paid movie director?" The answer is simple. There are horribly incompetent and tasteless people in every profession. His swill makes money, and that's the only thing that really counts in Hollywood.

What's lower than straight to DVD? Can we release this straight to Spanish-dubbed Univision?
