We’ll be posting my rather epic interview today with Rob Zombie shortly. In the meantime, here’s an excerpt in which he clears up misconceptions surrounding Michael Myers “mask-less ratio” in H2 (Halloween 2). You may recall previous reports that Myers will go mask-less for 70% of the film. But as Zombie emphasized in good humor, the editing process has just started on the sequel, rendering the figure moot…

/Film: I think what has sparked the most controversy so far over the sequel is the mask. Once that statistic hit the Net that had Michael only wearing the mask for 30% of the movie, it was on. To be honest, it sounded like bullshit to me, so I didn’t report it. …Would you care to clarify?

Rob Zombie: It is total bullshit. [laughs] See, I think Wayne Toth [SFX] said [70% mask-less] when you guys were down on the set. Wayne wasn’t bullshitting you, but that was taken out of context, and to an extreme [online]. We’ve filmed so much stuff and at this point nobody but me knows what we’re going to use or not use. There are more shots of Michael Myers running around in his mask in this movie than in any of the other movies. I don’t think anybody has to worry. Yeah. Michael Myers never looked so good. [laughs]

Zombie also expressed complete disdain for all prior Halloween sequels, calling them “pathetic.” It’s a pretty candid interview. Some fans will be disappointed to learn that Tyrannosaurus Rex will most likely not be Zombie’s next film due to—per the interview—Hollywood’s current appetite for unoriginal, toned-down fare. After the jump we have the latest one-sheet for H2, released today.

    Dig the new poster.
  • "Some fans will be disappointed to learn that Tyrannosaurus Rex will most likely not be Zombie’s next film due to—per the interview—Hollywood’s current appetite for unoriginal, toned-down fare."

It's kind of a relief to know that SOMEONE in Hollywood understands that most movies they're making now are shit.
  • a-fuckin-men! In fact, the morons who run Hollywood and plan lots of remakes and bullshit adaptations, are the studio exec morons who only care about money and not quality...
  • Well, in fairness the money should be a point enough to make a good movie.

in theory it should work like this:
    1) Hollywood makes a great movie like Star Trek or No Country
    2) Hollywood also makes a parody movie that will be released the same day.
    3) The consumers decide that the good movie is well good and go see it.
    4) Hollywood execs make money off their risk and proceed to take more chances on different scripts that they might not have thought viable.

In reality it goes like this:
    1) Hollywood makes good movie for a low budget.
    2) Hollywood makes another parody or remake with shitty and subpar directors
    3) Consumers flock to see Not Another Epic Scary Movie II: Revenge of the Spartans or Weird Science: The remake.
    4) Hollywood execs rake in massive amounts of cash and announce the sub-par director will now direct a comic book movie or a remake of the Breakfast Club.
  • there IS going to be a remake of The Breakfast Club... sigh.
  • Baz
yeah, like this copy-cat shit. How ironic. Jezzzz
  • _spinster_
I luv tht new look for Myers, with the mask and the Hoodie on, thts a new and unique luk. I just don't like the half mask half face showing
  • Zombie's reboot of "Halloween" was no less pathetic than the shitty sequels.
  • Aaron
The new poster looks like something a fan threw together.

I really really wish people who dog Zombie for his Halloween remakes would give some sort of context as to why they've got that stick so far up their asses? Give us a reason or two why you don't like a film/director instead of farting at the mouth and running back under your bridge, you trolls.
  • tyler
zombie's halloween remake was pretty much unwatchable in my opinion, and from what i've read many other people feel the same way. zombie seems like a cool guy, and both devil's rejects and halloween had scenes that were shot well, but the story in both just wasn't worth telling. and in halloween's case, it had been told before much much better.

so if a remake of a movie considered a classic isn't as good as the original, then it fails. that's why no one remembers the fog remake, and why 10 years from now no one will remember the halloween remake. no disrespect to zombie, but seriously, i can't see it being remembered at all, whereas the original will still be a classic.
  • Aaron
Thank you thank you thank you for elucidating your opinion. I don't agree with it, but at least it is founded lol.
  • musicsoup
nobody remembers the fog cause it was directed by rupert rainwright. who the fuck is that? he directed stigmata. i kinda remember that movie being kinda okay, only saw it once. but this is the who guy who directed the video for 'u can't touch this'... so yeah.

'rob zombie' is a name. he's a brand. he's a star. he was a star long before he started directing. he had already made a voice for himself. despite what you think or hope, his films will be remembered, because it's just one of many projects that have gained major success in his life.

so, i'm saying it again. rob, make great movies, cast your wife in smaller roles.
  • I am just surprised there are people that actually care about this movie, let alone the mask/no mask ratio
  • Diego
Those are some pretty bold statements. I personally liked his remake (or reimagining, whatever they're calling these things nowadays), but I think it's a little curious that he expresses such disdain for the sequels. Especially considering that he cast Danielle Harris, a staple of the unnecessary-sequels-in-a-franchise-that's-way-past-its-prime, in one of the supporting roles. I myself would probably put his film on par with some of the original series' sequels, and to be blunt, this new film looks to be on the level of some of that series' shittier installments.
  • Jason Eisener
halloween 3 is a fucking masterpiece
  • musicsoup
rob, since now i know you'll probably be reading some of these reactions, let me start by saying that i'm a fan. i went to see white zombie in 1994 when you played with the melvins and babes in toyland at the universal ampitheater. i was 13. it was my first memorable rock show without my parents. shit blew my mind. i had never seen a mosh pit like that, you know, when people were actually still really moshing.

point is. look man, i completely respect you, and i'm saying this to try and help your films be the best they can be, cause i know you've got it in you and i believe you're in it for all the right reasons. to shock and fuck with people, push the limits. which is why you openly criticize the film and music industries. yours and rollins' are the two most needed voices of reason in rock music.

but seriously now, you've gotta stop casting your wife in the big roles in you films. i'm sure she's a rad lady and super fucking cool, so this is nothing against her as a person. it's just her acting. she's not a great actress. and from what we've seen from halloween 2 so far in the trailer, it kinda feels like the whole mother telling michael to kill people things was just cause you needed a place to cast Sheri. i'm not thinking you shouldn't cast her at all, i just think you need to use her in smaller parts.

i want to your movies to rule. i think this will help. it is just my opinion.

    rock.
  • Danny Davila
The New poster looks like Photoshop Crap
  • ziggi
i thought that was a fake. lol.
  • It's nice to hear from the director about the movie. I'm also happy that we're getting the mask in most of the movie.
  • That poster just exudes Direct-to-DVD. Disgusting.
  • Brian
dude, this poster blows. it sux ass! it looks like a cheezy d2dvd poster! wtf? i realllllly like the first one! =D

i am horrible with photoshop and i can make a better poster! yeesh!
  • whothewhatthe
The problem with Rob Zombie is that at the end of the day he's yet another tool who needs to talk shit, which he's done for a long time when it comes to movies. You're not making me any more interested in your film by bashing other movies, fuckwit. Disregarding the other sequels, I personally think Halloween, Halloween II, and H20 form a nice tight trilogy. But I guess that's because I'm stupid and I need fucking Rob Zombie to "educate" me on what good movies are. As for Zombie's reboot--not the abject piece of shit so many claim, but no masterpiece by any means. And I'm on board with everyone else who's sick of, and irritated by, his wife.
  • that's HHHUUUGGGEEE!!!
  • Oh, so now here come the Rob Zombie Halloween supporters! Where were all of you when I was battling idiots about the mask issue when Peter Sciretta was posting all of those articles about it. Sure, Hunter Stephensen didn't report it because the rumors were unfounded and kind of a silly thing to report on, but that didn't stop Sciretta from starting a shit storm of Zombie hate in the comments sections.

Zombie is one of the few Hollywood directors willing to do something different, and we should respect him for that.

And if in the off chance Zombie actually reads the comments section; PLEASE RELEASE THE WORKPRINT CUT OF HALLOWEEN ON DVD. THAT WAS WHAT THAT MOVIE WAS MEANT TO BE, WHAT HIT THEATERS WAS HACKED UP BY THE STUDIOS. BRING BACK YOUR ORIGINAL VISION, SHOW THESE PEOPLE WHAT IS WHAT!
(sorry for the caps, I already hate myself for it)
  • Rick Rosenthal's Haloween 2 was a very GOOD sequel. Zombie has NO credibility when it comes to this franchise.

    chuck
  • Hey, I actually liked Halloween 3. More creative than anything Zombie put together for his "films".
  • Ali
Ugh, that poster is fucking dreadful. Truly awful. Large white Impact Bold, a crappy lo-res cut-out (with bonus Outer Glow!) and mild transparency. I hope no one got paid for this.
  • Jason Eisener
I wish the series went more of the way of Halloween 3, if every year we had a crazy new story about Halloween made by a new director each time, would of made for a very interesting series.
Dont get me wrong i actually like some of the other sequels. But when October kicks in, one of the best films to get you in the mood for the season is Halloween 3. Also has an amazing score.
If rob is going off in a totally new direction with it, then im down. I thought the weakest parts of his remake were the parts where the film was trying to be like John Carpenters Halloween. Ive seen Trick R Treat at Butt Numb A Thon and it would have fit really well into the mold of a new Halloween flick, if the series went the way John Carpenter planed for it.
  • Obviously the original is the best, but I can watch 2 and H2O as well. I like Zmobie's reboot MUCH better than any of the other sequels and I'm looking forward to the sequel. 3 was okay for the camp factor, but isn't really part of this franchise. Shouldn't even really be mentioned with the other. 4, 5, 6, are aweful and the one with Busta Rhymes is like any other disposible d2dvd horror movie. It is an ok concept, but there was no reason to call it Halloween or have Michael Myers in it.
  • topheavy
You have lost what soul you had in horror Zombie. Go back to music while you can.
  • kill zombie
what the hell not another remake by this retard? and what the fuck is up with mike's look? aint he supposed to be a chilling killer, not a homeless drunk i mean come on. I wouldnt run from that, i'd prob give him some change or something, rob your a mong mate :P
  • Name
ROB ZOMBIE IS AN ARTIST OF SORTS AND THE HALLOWEEN FILMS
I BELIEVE ARE JUST ANOTHER EXPRESSION OF HIS TALENT. HE WAS APPROACHED TO MAKE THESE REMAKES FRESH, CONTEMPORARY AT BEST.

WHILE I DID NOT CARE FOR THE FIRST REMAKE AS I FOUND IT TO BE TOO EXPLANITORY IN IT'S TELLING OF HOW IT ALL CAME TO BE IT WAS DEFINATELY A DIFFERNT TAKE ON THE STORY AND IT'S CHARACTERS.

AS FOR THE SECOND REMAKE I DID NOT CARE FOR IT AT ALL.

REASON NUMBER ONE WAS WE ALREADY KNOW THAT MICHAEL IS A PSYCHOPATH. THERE WAS NO NEED TO LET US INTO HIS HEAD AND SEE VISION OF HIMSELF AS A YOUNG BOY WITH HIS DEAD MOTHER GIVING HIM INSTRUCTIONS TO KILL. WHO CARES? THE LESS WE KNOW THE BETTER AS IT KEEPS THE FILM MYSTERIOUS ONLY TO SET UP FOR THE NEXT SLAUGHTER. BOTH FILMS USED A STUNT MAN WAY TOO TALL COMPARED TO THE ORIGINAL AND MICHAEL CAN NOW RUN AFTER HIS VICTIMS AT LIGHT SPEED. I FOUND THOSE CHANGES TO BE ABSURD BUT, AGAIN THE DIRECTORS VISION. AND ULTIMATELY ALL ARTISTS SHOULD RENDER THEIR OWN VISIONS ON THE PRODUCTS THEY PRODUCE OTHERWISE GO INTO POLITICS AND TRY TO PLEASE EVERYONE.
