Terminator Salvation

Director McG tells SciFi that he only cut one shot in Terminator Salvation to earn the PG-13 rating. The quick cut involved featuring Sam Worthington’s character Marcus “stabbing a screwdriver through the shoulder” of a thug. You might be wondering, what about that much talked about topless scene featuring Moon Bloodgood? McG claims that in the end “it felt more like a gratuitous moment of a girl taking her top off in an action picture, and I didn’t want that to convolute the story or the characters.” Sure… sure…

Also, Warner Bros has released a final movie trailer for Terminator Salvation on Apple. The extended trailer is pretty cool, but basically squeezes the entire film into 4 minutes. Those of you who want to go in fresh might want to skip this one. I’ve embedded the clip after the jump.

  • Final Word
    That was AN AWESOME trailor!
  • [A]
TRAILOR sounds about right. since everyone calls CONNOR CONNER..
  • Final Word
    LOL, my bad.

I meant TRAILER! I was just so excited that I goofed. Thanks for correcting me. I am forever in your debt.
  • Yeah i hate that everyone starts to call Connor CONNER. It pisses me off.
  • What's with McG and jumping dirt bikes in his movies?
  • Wasn't McG saying it was a beautiful/great moment in the film?!? Ah McG.
  • Yeah seriously, wasn't he also saying originally when he was fighting to keep it that it wasn't gratuitous? Either way it seemed like an awesome shot and I hope we end up seeing it in one shape or form after it's release to DVD. I mean I'm not even that crazy about Bloodgood but so much talk about the scene made me interested in seeing it in context of the film. Guess there never was any now so says McG-Man.
  • Interesting to find out that there more gore/violence that needed to be cut from the film to attain a PG13.

Thanks for the warning on the possible trailer spoilers. I think I'm gonna skip this one as there is already enough footage of the movie to wet my apetite.
  • Any preview for this movie gives me a nerd boner. But I'm having a hard time with Anton Yelchin. Could he try to say "Come with me if you want to live" in a less girlie voice please?

Also, someone should've reminded Christian Bale during his speech to Sam Worthington that The Dark Knight wrapped a long time ago - no need to growl.
  • I actually think Yelchin's delivery of that line sounds really natural and like it comes in a context where it's actually necessary. I agree, though, about Bale's voice. I hope it's a little more natural-sounding than TDK.
  • Also why hasn't anyone asked him about the running time thing? He said a few months ago his cut was 2 hours and 10 minutes, and yet the final running time is only 110 minutes.
  • Final Word
I think the whole running time thing is just another "fanboy" fiction. It's just like all that Rihanna BS. It's just another excuse to hate the film. No one knows what the running time is.
  • Yes the running time is 110 minutes. It looks filled with so many action sequences that it worries me that the its going to be more so focused on the action. It will be better then T3. I also don't get you running time is an excuse to hate a movie, what the fuck did you mean by that? That comment makes no sense.
  • [A]
so you're complaining about NOT seeing boobs in a movie? grow up
  • I don't see anyone above you that complained. Also, wanting to see someone nude isn't necessarily immature.
  • lol
damn i want to see boobs? i must need to grow up. how bout you grow a pair faggot
  • Great! Now I don't have to see the movie lol
  • pg-13 is no fun.
  • You're right, Dark Knight sucks.
  • i understand what you're saying, but now imagine if the dark knight were rated R.
  • But it didn't needed to be rated R. The most horrifying things worked because we didn't see them. The movie was gritty and dark, and no blood was needed to achieve this. So i don't think that adding blood and guts will change anything on the quality of this film. That's what i think. Let's just wait and see. Maybe it works, maybe it won't. We can't judge right now.
  • A FOUR minute trailer! Makes you wonder if the film hasn't tested as well as WB hoped so there throwing out as much footage to entice people to see it. That's too much footage if you ask me. I might be in the minority here but I'm a skeptic. This looks so much different than anything we have seen in this franchise. Lets face it the first three films were basically chase movies with Arnold as the main attaction. This one feels like Mad Max with Robots. I hope its good but I don't see it as a sure thing.

    Oh Chuck, you keep dreaming!

I think the haters want so badly for this film to be bad because it would ultimately justify all their hate.
  • What hate. Im a fan of all the Terminators films. I even like part 3 ( a film that many don't like). Im just saying that this just feels totally different than the first 3 and the film may not be an easy sell to people who grew up on the franchise. Wasn't sleeping so I'm not dreaming.

  • If this move was another chaser, it would have been too much. the theme was already getting old. Besides, i love the idea of a war film inside the terminator world. Aren't you ready for something new?
  • Totally valid point and I don't disagree. My point was -why is WB releasing a four minute trailer showing almost the whole story. I can't recall a trailer this long. Plus fans who actually saw Terminator 2 in theaters(myself included) might be taken back at how different this story will be from the first three.I have no doubt there will be people who will. Im game, just making an observation.

  • "If you saved us once... in another future then you can save us in this one."

    That was a great line.
  • Palmer
Meh, the movie will be awesome nonetheless.
  • /ambient
the "R" rated action film is died.
  • This days R movies are now PG-13.
  • Marcus2015
Delta Assault - I dont understand that line. JC never saved them in another future. He is from one timeline.
  • Really? He seemed to have defeated SkyNET in the first Terminator. See, that's why SkyNET sent that first T-800 back to kill Sarah. Because John Connor had pretty much won the war.

So... he did save them in another future.

If only one scene was cut, then my fears have been put to rest.
  • Juan
Oh man, that music practically ruined the whole first half of the trailer. It looks marginally decent.
  • dumb studio move not to have that scene in the movie. weak.
  • eh. i was mixed on this but i just lost a lot of interest. its got pretty good effects, but the plot looks boring as all hell. everything just seems so forced. the dialogue. the action. the amount of effects. i think mcg's just trying to do too much at once. it just doesn't seem interesting at all.
  • micky
i'm already excited about this film but my major concern is if they cant even show a screwdriver going into someones shoulder then how can this be a terminator movie? no blood? no gore seems weak
  • Pissed off
That music sounded liek it was from a 80s action movie....terrible...it made me all of a sudden hate this movie. D-9 will b the best this summer so no worries!
  • I just watched the first 20 seconds, I had to stop it.
  • Just read your comment, had to give a thumbs down. =[
  • Why, because I don't want to be spoiled before I see the movie?

    Makes sense...
  • micky
yer the music was really bad
  • McG showed this to an audience at the Newport Beach Film Festival about two weeks ago, except when the video started there was no audio...so McG jumped in and energetically narrated the trailer for 3 minutes until the projectionist got the audio working. It was pretty amazing. He definitely has a passion for this project.
  • Cat
Running time is too short...scares me
  • It's weird seeing a T-800 truckin' around without any jerkiness.
  • CohnJonnor
If by weird you mean awesome sauce then I agree.
  • Solid
    Talk to the hand!
  • James Tiberius Kirk
This is one of those movies where I hope the DVD extras are on point. I love the way the aircrafts are animated and would like to see how it's done. As far as the movie itself, I believe it's going to be awesome. Of course we won't see the true version until the DVD comes out. That seems to be a trend these days.
  • Fir3Wolf
That was a pretty long and awesome trailer that only makes me want to see this movie more.
  • tee cee
I think that it is a complete insult to the original to make this film PG. I understand they want recoup money and turn a profit, I would prefer less effects more brutal action... it is why the original was called TERMINATOR .Oh well I guess those days are gone.... Kickin down doors and blowing people away with shotguns that is. :(

    (didn't rate the sequels either)
