Cool Stuff: Lasseter Family Wines

lasseter winery

Did you know: Academy Award winning animation director and Disney/Pixar cheif creative officer John Lasseter owns a Sonoma Valley winery? Lasseter bought the 27 acre Justi Creek Vinyard in 2002, embarking on a environmentally sensitive restoration the historic property and converting the vineyard exclusively to organic farming practices.

The Lasseter Family Winery is now open for business, offering three wines: Syrah Rose, Rhone Style Red Blend, and St. Emilion Red Blend. The Lasseter Family Winery logo features the character Wally B, which some of you animation nuts might remember from the 1984 LucasFilm computer animated short The Adventures of Andre and Wally B. Bottles range from $20 to $40, which isn’t that bad, and would certainly make a good gift for a hardcore Disney or Pixar fanatic.

I mean, who wouldn’t want a bottle of wine crafted by the guy that brought us Toy Story and returned hand drawn animation to Walt Disney Animation Studios?

  • you're reaching with this one Peter...the Pixar obsession of yours is getting weird....did you ever pickup on Dan Akroyd's Crystal Head Vodka and his winery? Crystal Head Vodka's bottle is based on the crystal skulls...
  • Sues
That Dan Aykroyd ad was fucking creepy. I couldn't tell if he was more obsessed with the "paranormal qualities" of crystal skulls or the vodka.
  • to be honest the vodka sounds like it's very expensive so that whole speech might have been needed..although I think the bulk of the money spent on it goes to production of that skull bottle and not the vodka itself...the best alcohol in Canada does come from the east coast though...on the other hand my assumption is that Akroyd has a drinking problem and is covering it up with owning these companies to get free quality booze...he built a winery near me same with Wayne Gretzky....every celebrity wants their own wine label or vodka these days...it's like the new clothing line
  • Don't forget Francis Ford Coppola's Vintage wines too!
  • I did write that the wine "would certainly make a good gift for a hardcore Disney or Pixar fanatic." Its not for everyone.
  • I'm not the target customer since I don't have a love of wine...even though I live in wine country at the moment...but I don't think it would be appropriate to use Pixar/Disney characters to sell alcohol..it would sort of boarder on the Joe Camel marketing
  • Vinyard
Akroyd isn't so disconcerting as much as his friend, "Phil."
  • Mikey
This bottle of wine would look nice next to my bottle of Francis Ford Coppola's wine.

Any other movie-related wine out there?
  • Richard
Those Lasseter kids are some lucky sons of beeatcheeess
  • Daniel
If anyone has missed the "Geek Wine" bandwagon, Viandante Del Cielo is still available. If you don't catch the Italian reference, it's made from fruit grown at Skywalker Ranch!

  • Get him on Wine Library TV. That'd be great.
  • edc2
he probably steals better wine and claims its his, just like with 'his' movies.
