Harold and Kumar

Back in July of last year, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg announced that they were developing a third Harold and Kumar film. It makes sense that New Line (aka Warner Bros) wanted a sequel after the release of Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, which grossed over $43 million worldwide. Not bad for a film that was made for around $12 million. In fact, the first film, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, wasn’t even considered a success until developing a cult following on DVD.

There were rumors of a Neil Patrick Harris spin-off as well. But talks died down, and I just figured that the sequel and spin-off fell into development heck, especially with Kal Penn joining President Obama’s administration as a liaison to Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities and “arts groups.” But it appears that a project is still in the works, and actually much further along than we had believed.

Warner Bros has announced that they will be releasing A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas in theaters on November 5th 2010.

No plot information has been released, but one can only imagine that it involves a pot-infused adventure on the night before Christmas. I wasn’t impressed by the last movie, as it traded most of the clever racial social satire of the original film for cheap political jokes and a bad Bush impersonator. But I love Christmas movies, and a Harold and Kumar Christmas adventure sounds like it has tons of potential. Kal Penn and John Cho are obviously expected to reprise their roles.

The studio has also nailed a date down for George Miller’s sequel to Happy Feet which we first learned about in August of last year. The movie, tentatively titled Happy Feet 2 in 3D will hit theaters on November 18th 2011. Hopefully they leave the live-action human characters out of the next installment.

  • The first Happy Feet is a masterpiece.

I'll see anything George Miller does.
  • No. Not really.
  • gah
Except for his Justice League. Thank you merciful God for not allowing that to go forward.
  • Seems like I've seen several articles on how Kal Penn is taking a hiatus on acting. For around 2 years according to the LA Times. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/la-et-cause1...

Where would this film fit in?
  • I liked both Harold and Kumar movies, so a 3rd one sounds good to me.

    Dennis
  • Yea I like both H&K movies as well.
  • Harold and Kumar 1 and 2 were very funny, good news that they are making a 3rd movie...
  • I just don't understand how he would be able to do it. Why would he give up House if he could do Harod & Kumar? Did he not get the job in the White House? Peter, get on this!!!
  • I would watch another Harold & Kumar movie but it's very possible to ruin a movie with a Christmas theme. I don't think there are too many Christmas themed movies out there that are actually any good.
  • National Lampoons Christmas Vacation?

I can't remember if that was any good, but my sister watched it religiously. Then again, she likes kind of crappy movies...
  • Yeah I knew someone was going to mention that one. I'm not really sure if it was any good either, I remember watching it a few times as a child but haven't watched it recently so I can't say. If it is, you got me there.
  • We're in the same boat unfortunately.
  • Well if I ever get around to watching it again in my lifetime, I'll be sure to tell you if it's any good.
  • it's a classic christmas movie, in my opinion at least. maybe not the best vacation movie, but still funny. its a must watch every christmas time in my house, at least once.
  • omg Bad Santa! Twas a great movie.
  • You're right, I totally forgot about that one.
  • Maybe this is one of Kal Penn's last movies, or maybe he's signed a contract for sequels.
  • George should do a Happy Feet/Mad Max crossover! :D
  • Both great news!
  • badenglish
    Harold and Kumar

    epic moehahhahahaha
  • Didn' Penn stop acting to work in the White House? Also John Cho last night on Jay Leno said : "It' a big loss to us" as if Penn wasn't coming back
  • awesome. I don't think this is going to take a LOT of time to make a Harold and Kumar movie... after all, this isn't a "masterpiece" big budget film being filmed somewhere in Thailand or Tokyo. I'm pretty sure Kal Penn can find the time off his White House job to film this...
  • Jim
    SSUUUULLLLUUUUU!!!!!

This is awesome news! Love me some more H&K. Way to go John Cho, (i'm wearing my Goth Harold t-shirt from H&K2 in honor of watching Star Trek tonight!)

and John was on Leno last night?!?
  • Myeke
Another Harold and Kumar sounds sweet, the first 2 we're really funny. and those two characters are great

myeke.mybrute.com .. new fast game, no virus or anything just this dumb fun game to past the time.
  • How are Cho and Penn going to fit this into their schedules? Well if they have a good story and the time then I hope they proceed with the project. Even though I enjoyed White Castle a lot more than Escape from GB.

I hope they can go back to the same storytelling they had in the first film.
  • Vince
Does anyone honestly think that the 2nd Harold & Kumar film was superior than the first...anyone?

But what I think is that A. this is kinda dumb since Kal Penn went to work for the Obama administration, so this stuff is beneath him now and B. Isn't this how the "Friday" series ended? We had a great first movie, a lackluster but somewhat amusing second film and a weak 3rd film with a Christmas setting. I'm not feeling it, though I am very much open to a Neil Patrick Harris spin-off or even a Rosenberg/ Goldstein take on the events of the first film; it'll be like Cheech and Chong, except more Jewish.
  • WidescreenWonderland
A Harold and Kumar Christmas themed movie is perfect. I think the entire second film tried wayyyy too hard and it came off a little weak. I'd love to see what they can come up with for this. Fingers crossed for eff jokes and lots of them.
  • INS
YES! Thought that was the last of Harold & Kumar, but bring it!

Hopefully by then pot will be legalized in Cali!! lol
  • Sick thrilla
The first Harold and Kumar was great, but the second one kind of sucked. A third one sounds like overkill and a NPH spinoff sounds ridiculous.
  • dagreenman18
IF it's as awesome as the 2nd one, then im on board.

But, an NPH movie wouldn't work. Half the joke of NPH in the films is that he's mysterious and pops up when he damn well pleases. A full film would have to take that away.

    Happy Feet was alright.
  • A very good read comments on this adventure and I suddenly felt like dancing in the beach mayami I would like to play this flimde
  • They should have made the movie Harold and Kumar go to Washington
  • INS
    they did that in #2
  • _spinster_
Who is the better duo Harold and Kumar or Jay and Silent Bob
  • INS
based on how many times i can rewatch the movie, Jay & Silent Bob
  • Jamieson
Happy feet 2? I wanna see MadMAX 4
  • JJRK
I wonder if Happy Feet 2 will take place in the future after we have all melted away their homeland and toxic fumes now fill the atmosphere because we are all terrible people who don't care about penguins.
  • Jean Anne Powell
since when has it been called go to white castle? when i bought it it was entitled Harold and Kumar get the munchies. i dont understand.
  • Vince
Oh you're cute. The American title of the film is "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle"- it's a reference to a big chain of fast food restaurants here in the states.

Since no one outside of America really knows what "White Castle" is, when it was released in Europe and the like, the film was retitled "Harold and Kumar Get the Munchies".

    Do you understand now?
  • Jean Anne
So what? my lack of knowledge on American culture is cute to you? Gee thanks. I've actually heard of White Castle, i did watch the film after all. But what was the point in giving the film two different titles?? Why not just pick one or the other? So what if European people wouldn't get the relevance, once they watched the film they would.
  • tommy
    silly european
