A Better Look at Michael Myers’ New Mask in H2

H2 Michael Myers
Dimension Films has released our first high resolution look at Michael Myers; new mask in Rob Zombie’s Halloween sequel H2. As you can see, the mask is ripped, revealing more of actor Tyler Mane’s face. I’m not sure I like it. One of the big reasons I think people found Myers scary is because they can’t see his face. The mask offered a creepy soulless face that stares blankly and never blinks. And now that they can see behind the mask, it not only makes the whole idea of a mask pointless, but takes away most of that unknown creepiness. Check out the full photo after the jump.

LOL It looks like he's trying to rip off chainsaw now with that Leatherface look.

"One of the big reasons I think people found Myers scary is because they can’t see his face."
Exactly. As with the first reboot, Zombie's problem is that he explains/shows too much and doesn't understand that the unseen/uknown is what scares people.
  • agreed
  • cheers! yes!
  • No, the problem is that you are holding standards set by the original movie to the RE-IMAGINING of the story.

You have your original, it will never be matched and it will never be forgotten. It will always be there for you to covet. This is not that movie and it is not trying to be. Let it be what it is, quit bitching about what it is not.
  • i like the fact that originally Michael Myers was a simple but terrifying tour de force. Now, this is tooooo much. It's all grungy, complete with a stupid hoodie.
  • yes, yes!
  • This is a very lit up picture. The actual shots of him in the movie are much darker, more obscured and imposing. Take a look at that picture of Myers facing that little kid on the sidewalk. To me, that represented everything that Zombie's Myers is: He's the boogie man.
  • Mag
Is that Alice Cooper in the back lmao
  • I have mixed feelings on this. You are right, Peter, that peopel found him scary because his face was hidden, which made him less human and much more sociopathic, evil and disturbing.

Now this one.. it's not horrible, but... eh. I agree with the above person that this is like Leatherface.

  • and that's the thing that bothers me. Michael Myers was suppose to be the dude that started the 'slasher' film thread. Now he's aping the styles of others that preceded him.
  • Michael Myers did start the slasher film thread, (not counting Argento's masterpiece, of course, of which the original Halloween borrowed heavily from). That will never change. That film will always be there for you.

THIS IS NOT THAT MOVIE. I wish that you people could get that through your head and start appreciating it for what it is, and not what it is not.
  • I'm mixed on this. While I agree with you, muffin7, that a new re-imagining does not mean the old movies cease to exist, or cease to be good, I also believe that if someone wants to do something different, then they should do something different. To take a classic character and do something drastically different with them, I have to ask: why not just do something new and original?

Don't get me wrong, it's not always a bad idea to revamp an old character, an old story, an old concept, but sometimes the changes can go too far. All in all, though, I will reserve judgment until I see the final product.
  • Palmer
He goes from a creepy killer in a boiler suit to looking like he's homeless?! Oh how far he has fallen!
  • yeah, now he's a bum. why dont they just rename this shit project :

    HALLOWEEN - THE BUM.
  • Trebek
The whole half the mask thing looks kind of crappy. It doesn't look creepy/weird like the '78 mask, or even cool, it just looks kind of lame. Luckily he's supposed to be maskless for most of the film...though I don't know if I like that idea either. I guess I'll have to wait and see. I haven't been impressed by any of Rob's films so far, so I don't have high hopes for this either.
  • Trebek
Oh and that camo jacket looks too..."gangster"...for me. Especially with the hood up like that. It looks like he's TRYING to looks like a badass, but failing miserably.
  • Amy Adams
This looks like every homeless man in my town.
  • GENIUS!
  • LOL, you must live in a creepy town.
  • andrewdill
    phantom of the opera
  • Hoopla
That looks so dumb... what were they thinking?
  • WORDS OF WISDOM! NICE
  • How is this a "new mask"? It just looks like the classic one thats been torn to shreds. Maybe he'll wear this mask for a while, ditch it, then pick up a new mask at the end of the movie. Looking at this and the trailer, thats what it seems like.
  • LOOKS LIKE IT GOT RUN OVER BY A LAWN MOWER, THA ZOMBIE HE'S SUCH A CREATIVE LITTLE DEVIL.
  • The Dilation
I'm done commenting on how much i dislike every thing about this film, on all conceivable levels.
  • I OWE YOU A DRINK FOR BEING SO SMART. VERY NICE... ;--)
  • DonCorleone
Oh dear. Not sure I was supposed to laugh at that picture. Zombie is just stripping everything good/scary about Myers and creating a complete joke. I thought the mask looked terrible in H:R but atleast it was a whole one! Why not just take the thing off - it looks flipping ridiculous.
  • It looks like something a 15 year old Metallica fan created.
  • @CaptainAwesome

That's why I like it and that's why I'm glad Zombie gets to make movies.
  • Ryan
It's the fear of the unknown that really scares people.
  • fex
Least his wife gets to be in another movie. Incase anybody needed a reason to take some Vallum.
  • This is a new mask? Looks like the old one just ripped on one side.

I liked the teaser kind of reminded me of Devils Rejects with Myers in it. But I am not so much on this look at all really.
  • BetterThanYou
I was wondering when Peter would finally say something bad about what is clearly looking like this year's staple pile-o-shit.
  • hUNETER'S BEEN RUNNIN THE HALLOWRUIN SHOW, PETER JUST STEPPING IN NOW... YEAH, BABY.
  • Steven
What the fuck is wrong with Rob Zombie? I don't think he has any clue of what the fuck he is doing.
  • U ARE 100%, a+ A ++++ !!!!
  • ImWithZombieOnThis
Sooo, everyone here's expecting myers to have a pile of William Shatner masks around so he can replace it anytime it gets dirty.
We've seen what he looks like as a kid (even in the original), so I don't find anything wrong with revealing his face now,
Even if he'll be mask-less at some point, I'm sure he'll have another mask eventually.
  • Yes!

When i heard that Rob Zombie wanted to make a new mask, i was a little apprehensive about it, but i trusted him because i liked the first one so much. Now that i see all he's done is just modified Michael's original Shatner mask to look like it's been through the ringer, i think it's pretty sweet!
  • All he needs is an ipod and a ICP t-shirt.
  • Well its a high-res promo pic in a well lit room...... Is the movie going to show Myers in THIS much light?! I don't like the majority of promo pics that are set in a way which is unrepresentative of the movie (or the tone of the movie) so this is no different.

I think it will be fine in the movie
  • lol - john u r right - its bloody leatherface! a really bad leatherface.

good idea- MICHAEL MYERS VERSUS LEATHERFACE.
  • LOOKS LIKE THE WITCH MASK FROM HALLOWEEN III - SEASON OF THE WITCH.
  • I am a diehard, so once he starts killing people, i will feel a LITTLE better. Double the body count to make up for this sh*t show. And please, less annoying screaming from that girl... enough already, we get it... have her save her breathe, shit!

  • I'm in the minority here in a big way, but I like it - in the context of the ENTIRE costume. I like a take that is REALLY apart from Carpenter's vision. Also, Rob Zombie is better the more he actually works on a concept. He scared the shit out of me with Devil's Rejects after House of 1000 Corpses was laughably bad.

Am I the only one who thinks that Zombie should direct a prequel/origins movie about Chop-Top from Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2? Now I think THAT would be a perfect marriage for Zombie's style.
  • That's not my father's Michael Myers. ridiculous!
