toystoryheads

Pixar just wrapped production on Up, and this week signifies the official “start of production”* on Toy Story 3. Director Lee Unkrich (right) and some of the animators decided to shave their heads to mark the occasion. Some directors grow “production beards” but I think the guys at Pixar must be having a hair growing contest. [twitpic and twitpic]

* I’m not quite sure why it’s called the start of production since they’ve been working on the film for a while now. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Up wrapped last week and everyone at Pixar is now working full time on Toy Story 3. I’m sure someone will explain in the comments.

Update: I just recieved an anonomous email explaining why yesterday was the begining of production: “the production desk for each “current” film is located just inside the animation area, on the right hand side of the lobby as you walk in. TS3 has been in pre-production, and now that “UP” is out the door, the production desk for TS3 will move to the animation dept, and replace the UP desk. this signifies that TS3 is now “In Production”. Animation workstations rarely change, unless you are moving up in the world and getting a larger cubicle/workspace.. everybody else in the studio moves around the production.. so director/producer/etc will all move to the offices in and around the production desk.”

TrekMovie has a complete listing of IMAX theaters which will be showing Star Trek.

  • Hi Peter-

I appreciate the mention of our site! Right now, though, there's speculation that the poster is fake, and just a scan from the comic book.

I'll try and keep you updated.
  • Palmer
Awesome news about Frank Welker. He may not get to voice Megatron, but Bay has made a wise choice in having him do Soundwave.

Shrek wedding...that's just weird, but to each their own.

Give 'Em Hell Malone posters have a nice old school feel to them.
  • Even though his voice will be processed beyond all recognition to any other than hardcore fans, this is good news. Frank is a hero of mine and deserves all the recognition and work he can get.

I have the hugest respect for professional voice over artists and hate how they're so often over looked in favour of celebrity of the week selections. It's more of an issue in animated films, but it still annoys me.

    Lord Nibbler FTW
  • "MovieTickets.com reports that over 229 screenings are now sold out for X-Men Origins: Wolverine as of 9:00am."

    I think that's good..... right?
  • Lawrence of Arabia is shot is on 70mm. I will now spend the rest of the night imagining how beautiful that would be on an imax screen.
  • What kind of genius puts "near-perfect movie" on the poster? Just put "perfect movie". Sure it's a little out of context, but it's also slightly better.
  • I feel that "near perfect movie" is much more believable as "perfect movie is something you would see from the quote whores.
  • That Hurt Locker poster looks wonderful. I love when design draws me in and makes just want to see/own a film. I recently bought MAD MAX again because the box set cover art was just too good to pass up. Gorgeous stuff.
  • Amanda Peet joining your cast is usually the kiss of death...I feel even worse for Emily Blunt now
  • Infrafan
Thank you GE for figuring that out before I invested in Blu-Ray. lol
  • MyNew Pep-Pep
Oh wait Roberto Orci forgot to say that Soundwave is barely in the movie and has very few lines.. because the Transformers are just background props for the LeDouche and Fox
Oric said "to expect more of the same type of humor." (Jar Jar bots)

    Isn't that AWESOME!!!!!?
  • musicsoup
YESSS JAR JAR BOTS!!! soon they will know about the jar jar bots!! and then they won't be defending bay anymore!! can't wait to watch their faces when they see them.
  • CamelSpit
Give 'Em Hell Malone continues to grow on me... The poster on the right is better. The one on the left seems cluttered beyond repair.
  • I hear The Hurt Locker was a bit slow...still want to check it out.
  • Why would people waste there money on the crap movie Wolverine? My good it's going to be X-Men 3 bad.
  • The Hurt Locker is a fantiastic film. Katherine Bigalow is a gem.
  • kyle
The Hurt Locker looks fucking awesome.
  • Lpfanaddy
That surrogates poster looks very sexual for a Disney production...
  • freemachine
The Hurt Locker is one of the best films I've ever seen. I'm getting sick and tired of war films set in or around Mid-East conflicts, but this film is outstanding in every way. Jeremy Renner gives one hell of a performance. The story is both thrilling and at the same time honest in its portrayal of humans caught in unbelievably tense situations. Beg, borrow, or steal if you have to, but go and see this film.
  • I loved it as well...I'm hoping for big success for it this summer..I'm dying for a sequel or some sort of follow up from Bigalow
  • The Hurt Locker really looks awesome. I so want to see that movie.
  • GETYOURSHITTOGETHER
    reCCoMended LAWL

    Come on, that's absurd.
  • Valeria
The Hurt Locker is bad a**! I saw it a film festival and everyone was awestruck when the film finished. Its seriously one of the best (if not the best) films I've seen in the last five years. I'm glad Kathryn Bigelow is back and she's brought a talented cast with her.
  • Hurt Locker and Toy Story 3 are the only good news sections of this page 2.
