Wolverine To Have Multiple Secret Endings

x-men origins: wolverine

The theatrical version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn’t contain 10 minutes of footage supposedly left out of the leaked workprint, as Tom Rothman claimed. However, it does contain some added “Easter eggs”. Gavin Hood appeared at a press screening in Hollywood tonight, and the director revealed that the theatrical cut would feature multiple “Easter egg endings” (or what some call “a button”) following the credits.

FirstShowing was in attendance and saw one of the endings, which Alex tells me ran 25-30 seconds in length and featured the character of Deadpool. It’s not clear how many different endings will be released, but the director said more than one.

Discuss: Will the “easter egg endings” lure fans who watched the leaked workprint into the threater?

I watched the "easter egg" ending and I thought they were a waste of my time. They had nothing to do with a new movie or anything. I was quite dissapointed.

I don't know why people are jumping all over the movie because they thought the leak was terrible. Of course it's going to be terrible, it's not finished! Any movie you see before editing is done will look horrible.
Anyway, I just saw the movie and thought it was pretty awesome! I'm glad I didn't take the advise of those who saw the leak. It's full of action and any comic fan should appreciate the movie.
It's not a Deadpool movie so I don't think anyone should complain there isn't enough Deadpool. However, when Ryan Reynolds is onscreen he steals the show.
    (Spoiler)
And it is Ryan at the end of the film, AKA Wade Wilson, as Weapon Xi (Deadpool).
    (Spoiler)
The easter egg ending I saw had Deadpool in it. My brother saw it at another city and had an ending with Wolverine in Japan.

lol, I thought it was a good movie, I don't know what all these people are saying it was shit... it wasn't the best movie I ever saw but it was defiantly worth a going too if you like x-men... Now if your a person that needs every detail to be in-line with the source (for instance if wolverine had a stubbed toe nail on the night of January 23, 1894) than you will not like this movie. If you are willing to sit back and shut the fuck up! you will enjoy the movie. And what are you people talking about... both Canada and America love gimmicks! Look at the iPod Touch for Christ sakes!

PETER: you are the worst editor EVER. Clean it up dude. This article reeks of errors.

"While the theatrical version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn’t contains 10 minutes of footage" should read "While the theatrical version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn’t contain 10 minutes of footage"....sheesh

I haven't watched the leak, but from what I've seen on the television commercials and the trailers this movie is definitely reaching out to the younger audience. When I saw Wolverine bonk the Blob on the head and heard a "ding" sound, my hopes for the movie dropped substantially, which is particularly disappointing since Wolverine is everybody's favorite X-Men character. Hopefully, I will be surprised and this will at least be fun to watch.
  • They can throw in a dozen endings but it still won't change the fact that the movie sucked so bad...
  • dlb
    fail rothman
  • Wow how pathetic.

I guess they really are desperate to quell down all the negative buzz surrounding this film.

Sorry Fox but gimmicks aren't going to save the majority of the film from being bad. Try making a good movie, see how that works.
  • Wolverine is still going to make a shit ton of money. The fact that it was leaked and apparently sucks isn't going to matter. They may lose some geek cash but parents and kids and the rest of the geeks will still go.
  • BamaJuice
You the man, RamJelly. Anywho, I'll be checking this movie out for the lulz....AGAIN!!!!.....AGAIN!!!!
  • Totally agree withyou RamJelly
  • Idunno, I heard the green screens were hard to watch in the workprint. Is that true?

Alternate endings are good, but it will be nothing like Terminator Salvation, where they reconstructed the last 1/3 of the movie. Man, now THAT is an extra feature I'd like to see on the DVD: an entirely different third act!
  • At the mexican press sreening we saw Wolverine in Japan. Not a very interesting scene.

He is just a sad man, drinking a beer.
  • BamaJuice
Hey butthole, keep your spoilers to yourself. Geez, you motha'frakker. Anyway, I'll be checking this out for the lulz....Again.
  • Jorge Tovalin
Ok, you ask it man! Another surprise just for you BamaJuice!

Omega Red appears. Who's the butthole now?

It was a joke. I dont' care what you think of my comment...
  • dlb
i'd like to add that this was in the work print
  • Joe
This is just going to promote piracy more. Why spend another ten bucks for one secret 30-second clip when they'll all be on Youtube that night?

If Jon Favreau came out tomorrow and said he's planning on doing this same idea of multiple button endings with Iron Man 2, every cineblogger across the uniweb would be praising the idea as work of a genius, and ejaculating all over their computers multiple times. The problem here is that it's Wolverine, and we all already know the movie is supposed to be bad. But forgetting about Wolvering, it's a pretty bold idea, if you ask me. Normally, we'd get something like this on the DVD extras, and we'd eat it up, but they're actually bringing it into the cinemas. I don't think this pisses all over the idea of film as art, but instead, Fox, knowing that they don't have art on their hands, have decided to try and at least make it an experience. There's something very cool about the idea of multiple endings -- IF the movie was good, like the dark knight or iron man, it would make sense because with movies like those, you're getting a ton of repeat viewers. Doing it for Wolverine is really what the issue is.
  • The only thing that could get me to see this movie is if they gave me Tom Rothman's job.
  • Sev
Maybe those re-shoots they did that "involved the character of Deadpool" were some of those endings? I am shocked at how bad the comments are about this movie. I think its entertaining, and you all have convinced me to save my money, so thank you.
  • Sev
umm...that seems a bit much. No?
  • There's a different ending depending on what theatre you're in? If that's how it works, geez, Fox is just pissing all over the idea of film as an art form.
  • Chris
Wolverine cuts Deadpool's head off at the end of the movie.

A 30 second clip at the end of the credits will not save this movie.
90% of moviegoers don't sit through the entirety of the credits in the first place, why would they want to do it more than once? Like someone else said earlier, I'll just YouTube the endings I missed.
  • BamaJuice
Yeah, you frakking butthole. Personally I'm gonna be seeing this just for the lulz.
  • Dude, I know the movie's leaked, but really, that spoiler is uncalled for. Fucking tool.
  • Red Frenzy
The only way these secret endings could save this movie for me is if, Deadpool at the end of his fight with Wolverine lies broken and beaten only to have Wade Wilson (aka Ryan Reynolds) walk up to his clone and whisper to him "Amateur" before slicing the clones head off. END. Now Fox can begin production on a real Deadpool movie, we demand it.

Funnily enough there has been a rumour going round from some folks who where at the premiers about the Deadpool Ending....SPOILER ALERT!!!
    "
Basically they zoom in on the rubble of the destroyed nuclear plant. We see Deadpools hand out of the rumble and then we see his head on the floor. We then see a guy in a long black over coat with his hood up, kneel down and pick up the head. We then hear dialogue as the camera pans around, " who the hell are you supposed to be?" and as it pans around we see its Wade Wilson. (Ryan Reynolds). then the screen fades to black. BTW its after the credits.

so Wade is alive and well... Weapon XI was a Wade Clone.... DEADPOOL lives"
  • musicsoup
    that actually sounds pretty rad.
  • I doubt the leaked version will affect their sales on this movie. I can guarantee they will blame it on the leaked version no matter what happens.

An extra 30 second clip, or 5 of cut footage spliced in, will not get me to the theater for this.
  • Wow Fox is really trying to get some of the money back that their stupidity cost them. I don't think I'll go watch this just because there might be alternate endings. Plus, they'll all be online after a few days anyway so it's really not worth it.

    -----------------------Spoilers Below-----------------------------

Oh yeah there are two scenes during and after the credits of the work print. One is of Stryker being picked up by the military for questioning of another character's death. The other is of Wolverine hanging out at what looks to be a Japanese bar drinking to remember what just happened during the entire film.
  • Cat
Secret endings? U mean different takes? There's only one ending.
  • If they need a gimmick to attract people what's that tell you about the actual movie. The fact that Fox has an embargo on early reviews and Paramount has none on Star Trek speaks volumes. I'm not rooting against Wolverine but the films probably mediore at best.

Ya know, I really hope this movie gets huge box office numbers next week. I hope it opens strong at number 1 and stays firm at number 2 on the 8th of May when Star Trek comes out. I hope Wolverine stays in the top 2 or 3 until Terminator Salvation hits and then manages to hold onto the top 4 or 5 slots. I hope it rakes in a huge fucking pile of cash that surprises the fuck out of everybody.

See, if that happens it'll make it so much harder for hollywood to bitch and whine about movie downloads screwing them out of money. Any "negative buzz" going around the internet is just that... "negative buzz going around THE INTERNET" joe public movie goers don't give a fuck what guys like us think. When they go and see it, they'll love it or hate it and tell their friends and then word of mouth will spread accordingly.

And hey, for as bad as some of us think it looks, it's still a damn site better looking then Ghost Rider or Catwoman. It's success will help pave the way for the Magneto prequel and the X-Men First class prequel and any other spin offs that happen to be on the docket before they finally get around to doing X4 (which will happen eventually).

So sit back and try to find a bright side internet.
  • SomeGuy
So it was Tim Curry who shot Wolverine... I get it.
  • I saw the workprint and changing it up with special endings might give it a plus or two, but honestly I doubt I'll go see it just for some special endings.

Nice try though, I give them that. It could hurt the film worse, or make it better. Deadpool or no Deadpool the movie wasn't all that it's cracked up too be.
  • Lawdog
Maybe that's just his way of saying, "The best part of my movie is when it's over."
  • dannyboy
i bet you they going to add the scene that they cut out to put on DVD deleted scenes into the cinema release of the movie i.e. they said they not going to add the scene where you see young Storm in Africa but i believe they going to put it now for the movie.
  • The_Kid
if we get a shot of full blown-out Deadpool, mask and everything, then I can get excited for this but right now I'm really not sure how I feel about it.
  • You know, after the movie comes up and bombs, they will blame it all on the leak, nobody will take responsability for making a terrible movie.
  • Infrafan
Ah. Button. I always just called them an addendum. Learned something. Anyway, my reward for not watching it online and actually going to go see it in theaters is just one of what could be several buttons I won't get to see in theaters.

    *slow clap* Thanks Fox.
  • Ya fox is a bunch of lying cooperates sons of gons... I think wolvering will suck. Thats why I'm not going to spend ten dollars on a movie that everyone on the internet is hating.
  • /ambient
I saw Predator tonight. Made me realize how much Fox has changed from a respectable studio with great productions to the least respectable studio with lackluster efforts.

Fox Searchlight is the only good thing going for Fox
  • jason B
still haven't watched the leak, but if what i've heard about deadpool is true...30 seconds aint gonna save shit. how the fuck could they do that to him? with reynolds cast, this could've easily spun off into a truly original series of its own. breaking the 4th wall & everything coulda been commando meets ferris bueler.
  • Merciful_budah
Totally agree. Same thing with Gambit. Mofo's got the best visual power possible for a movie and they STILL had to change it. I mean, I'm a comic book fan, but I wasn't pissed about the organic webs in Spiderman. They changed it, and so what? It works. But why bother changing it if you're just gonna turn it into something completely lame and underwhelming?
  • A Shit movie is a shit movie, no matter what they coat it with. It is sad that they are playing a gimmick like this. I guess they REALLY want people to pay for this. No, thank you. I have other and more interesting popcorn movies coming this summer.
  • Fir3Wolf
No it will not get fans to flock and see the movie. Will I end up seeing this, well probably because I'm a sucker for X-Men and I've seen the first half and kinda liked what I saw. I won't be going in expecting anything as good as the first two X-men movies but I can at least hope for something just slightly better then X-3.
  • LaFluer
lets face it, they spent alot of money to make a crappy movie, then it was leaked and now they will say anything in hope that people will go see it
  • "Please like us! Come see our movie! We have Hugh Jackman and 1000 mutant cameos, isn't that enough? Plus, explosions! Plot...? Uh...."

    Sincerely,

    Fox Executives
  • There trying so hard, but it not working for me.
