Atlanta-born artist Christian Waggoner has been creating a series of Star Wars fine art paintings for ACME Archives Direct, featuring detailed close-ups of some of the famous helmets of George Lucas’ galaxy. The idea of the series is to explore light and reflection, capturing unforgettable moments from the classic trilogy from an entirely new perspective. His newest painting, and third in the series, features a Stormtrooper with Rebel soldiers of the Tantive IV reflected in the eyes. Check out the other two pieces after the jump.
The first painting in the collection shows Darth Vader in close-up from A New Hope, with Obi-Wan seen dueling with the dark lord’s mask.

The second painting from Empire Strikes Back featured a close-up on Boba Fett, with Han Solo in carbonite reflected in his visor.

All of Waggoner’s paintings are available in limited edition paper, and canvas prints on the Acme Archives website.

  • Breath taking art. Love the Boba Fett piece, it's so fucking awesome.
  • Woot, the Boba Fett thing is awesome.
  • Some pretty detailed pieces. I wonder if they're oil or water color.
  • those have to be oils...no way water color could achieve that
  • Schmooie
If they weren't all so damn expensive I'd pick one up
  • Bam
WELL.....VADER AND BOBA ARE PRETTY HIGH RES...SO U CAN PROBABLY JUST COPY PASTE IT AND PRINT THEM UR SELF...DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE THERES A HI REZ VERSION OF THE STROMETROOPER?
  • skippy

  • starscream9289
Simply amazing. Must have the Darth Vader painting!
  • Alexis Crumb
Vader is lacking his helmets widows peak from that scene and the Stormies had grey teeth in that particular scene. All art is fraud!

    I blame Rolf Harris.
  • shameless
nerd alert!, but you're absolutely right
  • GREAT JOB ON THE BOBAFETT MASK. DAMN!
  • i believe that artist, fans, or filmmakers will never do art pieces, movie/video homages and paraodies,or books on the prequels. It's never gonna happenn because so far, they are not as beloved as the originals, and that alone is somewhat reassuring.
  • I think in 20 years, kids (born in 2000 or whatever) who grew up with the new craptastic trilogy, will prefer it over the original trilogy... just my opinion, though.
  • You might want to... y'know, do SOME sort of research before throwing around words like "never". There are/have been hundreds upon hundreds of officially commissioned and fan-created art pieces focused on/featuring subjects from the Prequels. There are dozens of books covering the Prequels. So that assessment is not even remotely true.

And here's the bigger point: "they are not as beloved" because the final Prequel came out four freaking years ago and it's 2009 outside. It's like saying "The Departed is not as beloved as Taxi Driver" -- it's an obvious statement. Put rose colored glasses in front of anything and add 30 years and the devotion to it will be that much stronger.

The people who grew up on the Prequels (who are now maybe in their late teens) haven't even become adults yet much less are they renowned enough so that you could Google their inspirations and find out how much ATTACK OF THE CLONES meant to them. You haven't met the artists and filmmakers inspired by the Prequels because they aren't artists or filmmakers yet -- they're still in high school.
  • because they're not beloved because they are not as good. Not to say that they are awful movies or anything, Justin Emit Brown.
  • Additionally, you garbled your own point by saying "so far, they are not as beloved" -- you said "never" twice but then added the "so far" qualifier as if you'll concede that it's possible/likely to occur at some point. Pick a side.
  • To add to what everyone else has already said, if you look at the link posted by Peter, you'll notice quite a few paintings from the prequels. Look at the "arena scene." Episode 2. "Mustafar Duel" and "Space Battle" both from Episode 3. All in that link. Look around a little first.. He also has some Expanded Universe stuff as well.
  • interesting.
  • wow, that is amazing, lots of precise details and you can tell these paintings have been worked on so long. It's just fantastic.
  • As an artist myself, I like the Boba Fett piece, but the Vader and the Stormtrooper piece bug me in the fact that the perspective in the lenses does not reflect the scenes in a realistic manner. The Stomtrooper helmet would have to be about knee level to have that perspective of the scene and Obi Wan's reflection would have a more distorted Fish eye effect and a more "top down" angle to it if properly seen in those bubble lenses of Vaders.

I am impressed with the idea and the talent it took to make these pieces. Kudos to Christian for making them and inspiring the fans.
  • One could argue that he was already shot and he is basically sitting on the ground resting on the wall. :)
  • One could argue that he was already shot and he is basically sitting on the ground resting on the wall. That could also explain why none of the rebels seem to be aiming at him. :)
  • great job in the Boba Fett helmet.
  • The Fett and Stormtrooper prints (on paper and canvas) are also available at Star Wars Shop.
  • These are freakin' sweet.

those are pretty awesome, I'd buy one if I had some money, but nope I'm just a broke college student.
  • Palmer
Awesome, Boba Fett's probably the best one of the bunch.
  • Wow! If I had an extra $125 lying around...
  • I know what you mean. I might have to get into the making art business. Either that or start selling paintings of stuff.
  • Infrafan
    Spectacular.
  • Geet
Awesome work, I never thought about painting known stuff, I should give it a go.
  • mbellerbrock
I'm 21, I think I would say I more or less grew up on the new prequel trilogy. However I myself prefer the older trilogy over the new one. I might not hate the prequels as much as some older people tho. Revenge of the Sith is probably a close tie with The Empire Strikes Back IMO. Yeah, Jar Jar sucks, but so do the Ewoks.
  • John
    Me want!
  • It would be really cool to get all three and hang them next to each other. What a piece!
  • i like the stormtrooper best b/c it is the most discreet...
