Kate Mara and Clark Gregg Join Iron Man 2

Kate Mara (Shooter) and Clark Gregg (Choke) have joined the cast of Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2.

Gregg will be reprising his role as Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D., which isn’t completely unexpected. Especially considering that the sequel partly bridges into the big Marvel superhero team-up, The Avengers. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Agent Coulson doing the heavy legwork for SHIELD. I’m guessing that while Samuel L Jackson is scheduled to make an appearance in the film, it will probably be short.

Mara’s character identity is being kept under wraps (for now). Gweneth Paltrow is back as Pepper Pots and Scarlett Johansson is playing the Black Widow, so where does Mara fit into this picture? The fact that her identity is being kept secret is very curious. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Thankl God! Finally! It's about time we got Mara another role! Obvioulsy, I am biased because I am related to a former Giants football player ( way back), but not biased becasue she is the hottest woman to ver walk this planet!!!!
    great pick-up - my guess is that she is a stripper, or bartender that Starky throws money at at has a sloppy relationship with. Nothing sloppy about Mara, all tight!

    I'm still pissed that Scarlett Johansson is in this movie. Am I the only person on this Earth that thinks she is the most overrated actress of our time? She can't act worth a piss, and she delivers the same character in every movie...maybe this will be different...and maybe New Moon will be the Godfather II of our generation.

    Best guess is Sharon Carter, Agent of SHIELD. That would later tie in with Captain America, because in the comics she was Cap's girlfriend.

    I heard that Eva Longoria was in line to play the Wasp. But that was a while a go.

    Sharon Carter is a possibility but what about Carol Danvers aka Ms. Marvel? Or even Julia Carpenter aka Spider-Woman (a different one). Get a little West Coast Avengers action going.
  • If Kate is going to be playing another superhero, I don't see it being a very big role, at least not in this movie, so I would agree with the speculation that she could just be introduced here to play a slightly bigger role in another film down the line.

    Another guess is that Justin Hammer needs a hot assistant for the movie and she is definitely gorgeous. She doesn't have to be good does she?

  • You know what? I have been in love with Kate Mara since I first saw her in 'Zoom'... and was the only real reason I watched 'Shooter' because I knew that they were going to take 'Point of Impact' and butcher it...
    Yea for one more good cast member... boo for Scarlett J. Gorgeous girl, sexy voice.. not right for this collection of movies... Then again I trust JFav, so we may just be peachy...
    We shall see.. Cant wait! yay Mara!
  • Hopefully Kate Mara is the real Black Widow. I actually wouldn't have a problem with that. It's always fun when an Iron Man movie is being made because there's tons of speculation as to who's playing who. You guys remember Swank being rumored to play Black Widow with the last film?
