Transformers 2 Video Game Concept Art

transformers 2 video game concept art

The official website for the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video game reveals some interesting new concept art. Of course, the art was created for the video game, and the movie. But since the game is supposedly closely tied into the film’s plot, I thought the concept paintings still might be relavant. Plus, I am a sucker for concept art. Take a look at the piece above which shows how small Bumblebee is in relation to Demolisher. You might remember Optimus Prime dangling off of this massive constructicon in the trailers. More concept art after the jump.

  • I will never see Transformers 2 and I think Michael Bay does subtraction by addition to film.

That said, and this pretty much goes for all concept art, this is pretty amazing stuff.
  • Michael Bay making Transformers has absolutely ZERO impact on independent filmmakers. He makes summer action entertainment flicks, and he makes them very well. They don't have to have the raw emotion and drama that indies thrive on, and that's why he is the best at what he does.

If all movies were made the same, this industry would suck. get over your Bay-Hater attitude and provide something useful to filmmakers, or shut up.
  • To be fair, and to support my above statement, the market is also to blame. The reason that movies like his make money is because people go to see them. That can't really be helped.

The concern that I have is that, especially in these bad economic times, that studios will be less willing to give money to smaller ventures, knowing that they won't see as much return. Meanwhile, knowing that blockbusters that appeal to the lowest common denominator constantly make money, studios will put more money towards the Michael Bays and Roland Emmerichs of the world. It is not Michael Bay's fault, rather, it is the studios looking for a sure thing and the droves of movie-goers that don't want to have to think when they get into the theater.
  • The studios know that summer blockbusters typically don't win Oscars, then what does?

    Hmmm....

    /sarcasm
  • Well, if Transformers 2 is actually good, then maayybe.

    Note if keyword "IF".
  • The art looks real good...I'll def check this game out too, I bought the first one for my lil brother and it wasn't too bad, looks like he's gonna get another one...
  • I love blowing shit up.
  • Concept art looks good, sure video game will have pretty graphics, but since most movie video games suck and vice versa, I'll be passing on it.

Though if you want to see shitty graphics, look at the upcoming GI Joe video game.

Wasn't Blackout killed in the first movie?
  • Travis McGee
So you just went from blaming Bay to saying it's not his fault but the studios in less than 30 minutes...
  • Actually, if you read my post carefully, it says that it is Michael Bay's MOVIES, not him personally, that is the problem. What can you say, the guy has a type.

My argument is about the issue of supply and demand. It is always the studio. Michael Bay just happens to be a good example.

Looks good on paper, but video game tie-ins are rarely good.

Michael Bay's Revenge of the Dumb Ass Movie is coming!! be sure to watch out for his overused bullshit trademark film making:

Intense slow motion shots of characters

Has the camera moving during most scenes. Very rarely uses static shots.

Actors/characters in his films are almost uniformly shot in tight, emphatic close ups, framed under the hairline and above the chin.

Often has over-the-top visuals (i.e. key events taking place at sunset or dramatic events taking place behind actors doing routine activities).

Utilizes monotonic but intense musical cues during action-filled car chase scenes. Bad Boys II (2003), The Island (2005)

Uses shots of aircraft against a setting sun, especially helicopters (Armageddon (1998/I), Pearl Harbor (2001), Transformers (2007)).

Often features a slow-motion shot of an object crashing into, or tumbling towards the camera.

Uses a shot where the camera spins in a circle around characters. (Bad Boys II, Transformers)

Frequently incorporates scenes that involve characters running or moving towards the camera (almost always shot in slow-motion)

Even the trailer for ROTF had scenes that looked straight from Armageddon and Pearl Harbor.

LOL i bet bay appreciates that fact that you watch his shit so closely to offer such a thoughtful analysis of his work!!

    you get a fucking cookie!
  • Dr. Doom
Don't forget a wise cracking main character who gets the girl in the end, at least 2 montages (one wacky, one a preperation for a fight/battle/war/space launch) and a current top 40 pop hit to play over the closing credits.

I will definately be "watching" this movie, but I am not giving one red cent to Mr. Bay.
Also, how the hell is the Even Stevens kid an a-lister now??!!
  • mikeyclt
He also forgot makes a shit ton of money in there...
  • Holy shit, you can point out genre conventions and director trademarks in a fucking popcorn movie! What do you expect out of "Transformers"? It's a movie about cars/trucks/planes/etc that transform into giant alien robots. Yes, it was horribly written and acted, yes the plot was weak, yes it stars Shia LaBeouf, but for fuck's sake man, it's based on a bunch of die-cast toys out of Japan! Just accept it for what it is and enjoy being a kid again, or move on with your life.
  • agreed
  • Ah, seems like all Michael Bay topics gets their own trademark douchebag Bay hater tool who writes about the same complaints ad nauseam.

I congratulate you on becoming a stereotype.

    /yourself, please.
  • i thought you hated his stuff, but you seem to know it better than i do, and i enjoy his stuff.
  • Goobity
The concept art is pretty good. Unfortunately, there has never been an even nearly acceptable video game adaptation of a film. Especially when the film in question won't live up to the concept art, either.
  • jenny
hopefully the second game is better than the first.
  • Smash
Bay makes studio pictures. How would studio money affect independent money? They don't really have any crossover. Someone wanting funding for their personal drama would not be going to the same well that Bay regularly dunks his bucket into...
  • I apologize for misspeaking - I didn't mean independent films; rather, I meant studio produced small-budget films. I know this is the internet and all, but hopefully you can excuse the slip.
  • Chino
I'm sorry but it sounds like you have ABSOLUTELY no idea about what you are talking about....just wanted to point that out.
  • You sound like a guy flip-flopping on his topics because a few people on the internet disagree. Hopefully it's just my brief assumption.
  • Looks cool I guess, I really wanted to see some concept art of Devastator, or at least some sizable comparison to the other Transformers.
  • I will never see Transformers 2 and I think that with every movie he makes, Michael Bay makes it harder for independent film makers to get actual quality films made.

That said, and this pretty much goes for all concept art, this is pretty amazing stuff.
  • This can't be any worse than the first Transformers game, can it? Because that was probably one of the worst games I have played in recent times.
  • Concept art looks weird. In spots it's well done, and then a few pixels to the right it's horrendously smudge-tooled and it looks awful. I suppose there's high pressure to really rush these through and get them to the people making the game. That's too bad, they look like nice pieces. I'd rather see these people finish these pieces than bother making a shitty game.
  • this game looks really cool i am so buying this game
