Fox will be airing an “extended look” at Terminator Salvation on Wednesday during Bones. /Film reader Samir J points out that the promo that aired during 24 advertising the extended preview also features the PG-13 MPAA logo. I have included a screencapture above from my DVR.

    but what about the boobs!!!
  • Palmer
Well, I can understand why they'd want it as a PG-13 movie. But I'm wondering, aside from the much talked about nudity shoot, what other stuff was cut to make it a PG-13 film?
  • Mike
hopefully it isn't just the fucking trailer this time....
  • Bazman
I watched T2 over the weekend and this PG-13 has re-confirmed by feelings that this film will be the worst in the series (which shouldn't have ever been a series, you can't get much better than T2 so why try?)
  • dude T3 sucked. Plus Christian Bale's in TS. And have you seen the trailer? its sick. Although a PG-13 rating will make the action worse, it wont be the worst movie of the series. Although there's no topping 2.

PS: if anyone writes a christian bale "freak out" comment in reply to this, I'm going to create 50 intense debate usernames just so I can -1 them 50 times.

So McG lied (we all knew that) and tried to pretend that he was fighting for that R rating when all along he knew it had to be a PG-13.

And McG wonders why people can't stand him?
  • So you work for one of the parties involved in the PG13 decision making and know exactly how that went down right?
  • I seriously doubt McG lied. If you know anything about a film production, you would know they wouldn't have wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars on a topless shot that they knew wasn't going to make it into the film. That said, the box office disappointment of Watchmen was likely the nail in the coffin of the idea of an R-Rated Terminator film... sad
  • luke_test
    This was McG last year.

"“I’ve been given their blessing to make the picture…and if it’s a rated R picture, then that’s that.”

Maybe Warner lied to McG. But he clearly didn't have as much control as he thought.
  • Stranger
McG's absolutely been lying all this time. And nudity hasn't been something featured since the first Terminator.
The original trilogy of films got their ratings from their "graphic depiction of violence." And, the violence of the first three films would not get a PG-13 rating now; they'd still be R!
So, redeeming the film with an R-rating by using nudity already had me annoyed. I bet they never filmed the "topless scene," either.
But I don't doubt McG was lying. It's a Memorial Day weekend release! You can't honestly tell me WB was EVER okay with this being R-rated. McG's been trying to sell this as best he can knowing he was going to have to rescind his promise to deliver an R-rating; but he wasn't being honest. End of story.
  • skywarp
I knew it. Hopefully they didn't have to make big compromises to get it.
  • The Dark Knight was PG-13.

I'm going to keep telling myself that, for the sake of optimism.

Also, Fox is a big studio, and the MPAA can be pretty nice to the major studios from time to time, so hopefully its still pretty dark and twisted, a la The Dark Knight, which was Warner Bros, another major studio the MPAA were nice to.
  • filmkid
McG never lied that he wanted a R Rated he tried his best but the studio did not allow it because of Watchmen. anyway a P-13 for this movie does not mean that its going to be bad it the actions and story is good that no one should really complain.
  • Elvis Lives
Terminator 2 and 3 were both practically PG-13 and I doubt that this film will be too much different in terms of what we see than those. There will probably be fewer F-words. Everything else will probably be the same.

Unfortunately, some of the fanboys will start crying about this now. After all, we need to have new fanboy hysterics about the same thing once a week or so just to keep things fresh.
  • Crane
It doesn't mean movie will be PG-13. Go to MPAA site, there is " Special Preview Footage Lord Of The Rings The Two Towers" and it's rated PG, but the movie is rated PG-13.
  • Andy
Exactly. It just means the trailer/preview is rated PG-13. To be honest now-a-days PG-13's can get away with a lot. I bet if T1 was released today, cut out a few swear words and you would have a PG-13.
  • I don't care about rating, but T4 is a postapocalyptic war movie, about machines killing people, so for me lack of blood and f-words is ridiculous. Good movie with good script will be good without them, but I like realism.

And about T1 and T2 being rated PG-13 after some cuts - probably yes, but they're really amazing movies. T4 unfortuantely looks just like another blockbuster for teenagers.
  • Elvis Lives
How does shooting at and blowing up machines constitute an R-rating? Like I wrote, the only thing that will be sacrificed are the F-words (and Moon's boobies, which was always gratuitous anyway). I don't see how anything else will be sacrificed.
  • seanovan
Although I agree an R rating would be great. You have to remember just how out of touch these studio heads are. Anyways, by the time this film, or any other film that has been edited for a friendlier rating for that matter, is released on DVD/Blu-Ray, we will most likley get and R-rated directors cut anyways.
  • dlb
For the record for the dorks saying that T2 was nearly PG13

Blades through mouths and faces with people contorting (yeah really PG13)

Fail with a cherry on top

    Terminator = Violent
  • weak i was hoping for R
  • Elvis Lives
Buddy, if you honestly think that scene would earn an R-rating then all I got to say is that you've been riding on the short bus again. A blade through the mouth? Especially since you don't actually see it go through! You don't see any blood splatter. Nothing. Please. That's lame, dude, and you know it.

The only thing that makes T2 and R are Sarah Connor's F-words. Nothing more. The film was PG-13 (or it equivilant) in every other country.
  • dlb
    bro it was example
  • Final Word
I think it'll be PG-13 and I think it'll still be good. I really don't care about ratings. I care about quality. If the film is good, it's good. If it's bad, it's bad. That's it.
  • Palmer
Well, I can understand why they'd want it as a PG-13 movie. But I'm wondering, aside from the much talked about nudity shoot, what other stuff was cut to make it a PG-13 film? Also, I hope this "extended look" isn't the same trailer that they showed with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (A show I hope they don't cancel) which was just a trailer with no new footage.
  • hopefully they can release the full version on DVD.
  • BryPod
The official website has been updated and it still says "This Film Is Not Yet Rated". And I can't seem to find the official announcment of the rating on any of the MPAA/film rating websites...

    Who knows thats happening?

Part of me thinks that this PG-13 is just the rating of the "Extended Look". If not I'm still happy with a PG-13. If the film is good, its good no matter the rating. Plus PG-13 usually means us in the UK get a 15 certificate, which is all I want after the horrendous T3 being a 12A.
  • joshi38
A lot of good movies were PG 13, I don't really see this as a bad thing, we just won't get nearly as much blood as one would hope from a Terminator film.
  • this still won't get me to watch that horrible show Bones.
  • atrion
I mean look at Live Free Or Die Hard many people thought that would suck because it was PG-13 but as you can see many people still embraced it so it may or may not be the same with this
  • Fred
So, we'll get tits on the Dvd release right?

    ...Right!?
  • 790
    I liked Sarahs F-bombs in T2.

Good thing I'm over 13 wheeew?
  • so the boobs add anything to the story? if not, not big loss. if you really need to see boobs that bad, just google "boobs" until your brain explodes.

now, if the violence is bloodless, that's just lame. but, guys....c'mon...we don't need Terminator to satisfy our manly boob cravings, right?
  • Granted, this could still be a very good movie even if it's PG-13. Sure, Dark Knight was violent and dark as hell and still PG-13. But STILL...

...making a PG-13 Terminator movie SUCKS.

They've been showing the original Terminator lately on Starz or something like that.. I've seen it 5 or 6 times, but not in a few years. And seeing it again, I was reminded how suspenseful it was. Not exactly SCARY, mind you, but it was kind of scary, especially when it was released (and yes, I'm old enough to have seen it in the theater, though I was a kid at the time).

Part of what made the original film so cool was that not only was it interesting from an action and sci-fi standpoint, but it was also was plenty violent and even horrific.

I've never been as impressed with T2, basically because it was a more mainstream action film (though one hell of a good one, no argument). As for T3, 90 percent of it was just awful.

I had high hopes for Salvation, despite the McG hiring. But as I soon as I heard all this about "the studio isn't pressuring us for a PG-13," I knew it was all crap. The studio needed to go in from the start and say "This movie is an R. Shoot it like it's an R, because it's going to be an R. Make it terrifying. THAT'S what a Terminator film's supposed to be about."

The entire notion of making Terminator/Aliens/Predator/Die Hard movies as PG-13s comes from idiot suits who don't appreciate what made those films so spectacular in the first place. We need to fight this crap. It makes me sick.
  • Johnny Gossamer
Why can't they just release the film in pg13 and r rated formats?

That way they could get the families and the tweens in as well as the young adults and couples. I dont suppose it would hurt their revenue.
  • HeyZeus
Welcome to the new hollywood, where PG-13 is the new norm for adult franchises.

You can thank TDK for putting the nail in the coffin.
  • I would think you could thank Watchmen for proving that an R can't make money. I have to say though that this movie would have been great as an R.
  • Kjetil
Many people embraced Die Hard 4? I don't know any real Die Hard fan that didn't hate that movie. It was a hit, but that's what you get with PG-13, you get money in the bank but a crap movie that no fan of the series like.
  • That's very true. I'm not a die hard Die Hard fan but it was a good movie. it made alot of money but I have a few Die Hard friends and they say it's crap compared to the original.
  • I guess we all knew this was going to happen. Pizza hut confirmed it a few days ago and now it's really confirmed. Oh well, I'm sure the movie's going to be good no matter what.
  • Andrew
So...did it get aired or what? Its Friday now right?
  • Alex
I think the rating is irrelevent. In "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers", there was a scene where a character gets his intestines ripped out, and the film still kept its PG-13 rating. Its not about whether its PG-13 or R, its about the quality of the film.
