New Angels & Demons TV Trailer

Sony Pictures has begun airing a new 1+ minute television spot for Ron Howard’s adaptation of Angels & Demons. I’m calling it a TV trailer (even though it’s technically a tv spot) becuase it’s long enough that it almost feels like a new theatrical trailer. I can’t tell you how unexpected my excitement is for this film. At ShoWest, we were shown an impressive extended promo reel for the film which was cool enough to make me forget that Da Vinci Code film had ever been released. Watch the new television spot after the jump. Thanks to FirstShowing for the tip.

The team behind the global phenomenon The Da Vinci Code returns for the highly anticipated Angels & Demons, based upon the bestselling novel by Dan Brown.  Tom Hanks reprises his role as Harvard religious expert Robert Langdon, who once again finds that forces with ancient roots are willing to stop at nothing, even murder, to advance their goals.  Ron Howard again directs the film, which is produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and John Calley.  The screenplay is by David Koepp and Akiva Goldsman.

When Langdon discovers evidence of the resurgence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati - the most powerful underground organization in history - he also faces a deadly threat to the existence of the secret organization’s most despised enemy: the Catholic Church.  When Langdon learns that the clock is ticking on an unstoppable Illuminati time bomb, he jets to Rome, where he joins forces with Vittoria Vetra, a beautiful and enigmatic Italian scientist.  Embarking on a nonstop, action-packed hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and even to the heart of the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra will follow a 400-year-old trail of ancient symbols that mark the Vatican’s only hope for survival.

Angels & Demons hits theaters on May 15th 2009.

  • The book was really awesome, but will they be able to adapt it. I am really worried about the, uh, let's call it the "nuking the fridge syndrom." For those of you have read the book, you probably know what I mean. Do you think they will be able to do it? But still so looking forward to it, and that scene could be awesome.
  • This looks SO much better then The Da Vinci Code, which I always just found mediocre and not terrible like some did.

Again, I can't be too excited since Akiva Goldsman is the one who penned it. He neutered I am Legend and DaVinci Code.

They'll make it appealing to religious folks by playing a more sympathetic, less offensive line.
  • What I'm most excited about is Tom Hank's hair! No more mullet for you Mr. Langdon!
  • Could you even describe his hair in that movie as a mullet? I don't know what to call it, but it was the scariest part of the movie.

I've seen the first movie and while I didn't really like it this one does look a lot better. So I'll probably check it out eventually.

I love Illuminati conspiracies, especially the Illuminatus! Trilogy by Shea and Wilson. Angels and Demons looks like it will be much more of a thrill-ride than The Da Vinci Code, which was exceptionally dull IMO.

how about a documentary about the 'real' illuminati

  • What do you guys think of the way Ewan McGregor's character was depicted in the trailer? we barely see him and there's certainly no dialogue by him. additionally, was there a huge potential spoiler in the trailer? dunno
  • Looks very entertaining, much like the book.

I'm sorry, but I just haven't like Hanks since Private Ryan. Dude is so pompous!

It's as if he's saying: "What, you want me to ACT? I'm throwing the script away (his famous quote, for his approach to characters). What - not enough emotion for you?
    ... Fellas. You called ME."

Case example: How the Hell does the action movie soundtrack come even close to his ho hum reading of the dialogue. It doesn't - it's as if it's trying too hard to compensate for it!

Tom Hanks in: !!! If I can ... only find the secret code ... !!!!

Shit. Hype up the soundtrack. That'll get 'em packin' the theatres!
  • Even though I never read the books I thought 'The Da Vinci Code' was ok, def not great, just ok...but 'Angels and Demons' def looks better...

Angels&Demons was a 1000x better book then the Da Vinci code, and im sure the movie will be no different.
Hank's acting seems a little flat however...
