tron set photo

Last week at ShoWest, Disney announced that Tron (the Tron sequel) was going to begin shooting in a couple weeks. Well, shooting has already begun in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada this week. /Film reader Zach sends in the following report and first set photo:

They have been spending some crazy money here. They have been blocking off huge main sections of downtown for some pretty awesome looking action scenes. I saw tons of police cars chasing a guy hanging on to the top of a taxi. There were huge cranes holding up a stunt wire rig rig like I have never seen before. There is defintly some impressive non light cycle real life action in this movie. They have also transformed the tallest building in the city with huge encom logos and futuristic lighting. I was in total awe of how much equipment and gadgets they had. Everything I’ve seen them doing in the last five days is easily some of the most expensive stuff I’ve ever seen.  It’s probably is $300 million, even if it’s canadian dollars. I only managed to grab this crappy still with the big logo and some futuristic room above.

Could this photo be in canadian dollars?
  • I can't wait to see some more set photos. this sounds like it's going to be one interesting shoot.
  • I recall an article stating that it won't be called just "Tron" but there will be a subtitle that goes with it.
  • Bet the subtitle is vaguely spoilery, or at least hooky, so they want to unveil it "at the right time". Phantom Menace, anyone?
  • that might be the case. Who knows. "Tron: Jeff Bridges is Either Good or Bad". Maybe that's too on the nose.

I think by the time Comic Con comes by in July, the title will be revealed. I only believe this because I think there will be pressure on Disney's part to go with a subtitle of some sort (marketing reason, misconception that the film is a remake, etc)

Is Bridges the bad guy in this one? That would make no sense. His character was way to nice, and flat. It would be weird to have him being serious, and all antagonisticy.
  • '...police cars chasing a guy hanging on to the top of a taxi.' Wait, in the real world? In the original Tron I don't remember too much action taking place the real world. Is the virtual world going to look like the real world this time around? You know, like the Matrix?
  • Cat
Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Matrix like?
  • damn it... release the comiccon footage already
  • I know I'm going to get d-slapped for this, but I've never seen Tron. That said and all pitchforks aside, the teaser for Tron 2 looked pretty damn cool...so I might need to go watch it now.

I'm becoming more and more skeptical with each passing piece of information about this sequel. Why? a)No Wendy Carlos - WTF?!!! That's like STAR WARS without John Williams' orchestra; b)No Syd Mead - WTF?!!!! That's like Batman films without Wayne Industries or Spiderman films without Stan Lee; c)the writers having written for "LOST" - while the first 2 seasons of "LOST" were cool, it should have been FOUND long ago (if you catch my drift); d)the new TRON logo - looks like a harsh prophetic metaphor for something involving rectums and no vaseline; e)No Cindy Morgan - that's like Spiderman without Peter Parker, or Batman without Bruce Wayne; f)Stunts - ooooookay, I don't recall all this stuntwork in the ORIGINAL Tron: i mean, is this another DIE HARD movie, or is this TRON?!!!!I wanna see some of the special effects shots and the virtual sets. I hope that come 2011, my 29 LONG YEAR wait was worth it.
  • I'm still confused to why its been renamed to just Tron.

Either way the photo looks interesting enough.
  • Hm nice thought, but I don't think that would fit to the style of Tron. Perhaps they have now more going on in the real world.
  • No Cindy Morgan = TRON will NOT be the same! Jeff, Bruce, and Disney should be ashamed of themselves for leaving out Cindy!
  • TR2N or TRON 2.0 are the 2 current titles
  • Gangrel
Tron 2.0 is a video game on PC. If you can get a copy, it's worth it.
