clashcastingneeson

Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes have been cast in Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans. Neeson will play Zeus, king of the gods, a character played by Laurence Oliver in the 1981 film. Sam Worthington is already on board to play his son, Perseus. Fiennes is in talks to play Hades, the ruler of the underworld who is on a mission to overtake Zeus.

Neeson and Fiennes join the already announced cast of Mads Mikkelsen (Draco), Gemma Arterton (Io) and Alexa Davalos (Andromeda). The screenplay was penned by screenwriting legend Lawrence Kasdan, you know, the guy who wrote Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The original Desmond Davis film was an adaptation of the myth of Perseus which told his quest to battle both Medusa and the Kraken monster in order to save the Princess Andromeda. The movie is famous for its use of Ray Harryhausen’s stop motion animated creatures.

  • This movie is shaping out quite nicely.

Hopefully they don't completely borrow the "300" tone and come up with a unique movie instead.

The cast and the material along with the screenwriter does indicate for a good film.

Great cast....but really typecast. I mean, not really a stretch for either of them.
  • Two great actors, I;m actually looking forward to this.
  • Liam Neeson? After the death of his wife? I guess it'll help him escape it a little, but it seems soon!

The article states "The deal marks Neeson's first since the tragic death of his wife, Natasha Richardson. The deal was initiated before her death." and that filming starts later this month. It does seem unusually quick, but it's not really for us to say.
  • It may seem too soon, but he may welcome the distraction of getting lost in a role. Everyone grieves differently. When my friend's mom died she missed all of two days of work because she couldn't bare being home where she could dewell on her sadness.

    Leterrier?
The cast sounds fantastic. But, Leterrier?
    I envision shoddy CGI now.
Isn't there anything else this whole crew could work on other than a re-make of a film that featured silly SFX (sorry for saying it!) with a director who did a film with silly SFX (Leterrier)?
  • SPARTACVS
Can you get much more retarded than thinking a particular DIRECTOR will condemn a film to bad having cgi? As if Leterrier will have anything to do with it, good cg is a combination of the movie's budget and the effects house in charge.

God, I hate how people can't overlook the FX of Incredible Hulk. It was a great movie, it just didnt have a huge budget to get someone like WETA to do their FX. Letterier is a fantastic director and he doesn't get enough credit.
  • John Guard
    the Hulk CGI was bad.
    the director shares blame.
  • Cast is very solid. Still kind of iffy on Leterrier though, I really want this movie to be awesome.
  • Wow, what a great cast. I have high hopes for this film.
  • Ben
Is that the best pic of Ralph Fiennes you could find?

Anyway, that's a great cast they're assembling. Hopefully Leterrier can handle the character stuff as well as the action. Haven't seen anything that suggests he can.
  • That's what I thought when I first saw the article.
I know he's supposed to play Hades, and that I guess Voldemort breathing fire is kinda close to Hades...I guess.
    Still a ridiculous picture choice.
  • krazyguy
The reviews of the movie's script have all been bad criticizing it for having a passive hero and an awful love story. I can only hope it translates much better on screen.
  • Eric R.
Great casting choice, having those two onboard on gives the movie class.
  • Two great actors, I'm actually looking forward to this.

is it acceptable for me to say that this is the coolest/best casting Ive ever heard?
  • I was actually hoping for a remake of this! This is a movie can really benefit from updated special effects and CGI. This is probably one of the only movies that I agree needs a remake.
  • No matter how this remake turns out the original still lives and a copy happily sits on my shelf. I love the original, but I think a remake isn't out of the question. The cast so far is wonderful, so I am hoping for the best. It would be cool to see Neeson and Fiennes pitted against each other again.
  • Louis Leterrier? Are you shitting me?

This movie is going to suck.
  • Geet
Would be nice if Fiennes and Neeson had switched roles.
  • Seriously, why is the Ralph Fiennes picture him as Voldemort?
  • Reason
Mark my words and mark them well..

This will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever be as epic as the original Clash of the Titans.

    Ever.

Mostly because it will be drowned in a see of geek-tears.

Seriously, I liked the original, but if the cast can't excite you just one tiny bit I guess you don't like any movies that have been made after 1985.
  • Liam Neeson and Voldemort? Woo! I just got a little excited for this.
  • I can't wait for Percy Jacson vs. Clash of Titans. I predict Jackson will win. I think Jackson comes first, and Jackson is kid friendly. I can't wait for both.
