TRON Sequel Will Be Titled… TRON?

tron logo

What is the title of the Tron sequel? The original test footage that premiered at Comic Con was titled TR2N. Since there have been rumors that the film has been retitled TRON 2.0. But during the Disney presentation at ShoWest, Disney presented a new logo that just read TRON. I tried to scribble the logo design into my notebook and reproduce it quickly in photoshop. Yes, I know it doesn’t look too good, but it’s all I had time for.

They showed the same clip shown at comic con in 3D, complete with the old TR2N working logo. Principal photography doesn’t begin for a few weeks. I think consumers will be extremely confused with Disney giving the sequel the same as the original film. I can’t think of any big movie off the top of my head that has done this.  This might just be the working title for the film, who knows.

That logo must be an april 1st joke. So ugly.

Well, if it's a direct sequel, maybe not that great an idea, but remakes use the exact same title as the original all the time so i'd not be so upset about a reboot that uses the same title.

And unlikely that there'll be that much confusion.
  • april fools!
  • we need more footage...
  • I would differentiate the terms remake and reboot. They have a totally different meaning:

Remake = Copies an original movie, sticks more or less closely to the original storyline (the original movie is used as a blueprint), e.g. the 1998 Psycho is a remake of the original Psycho. Another example are Hollywood remakes of foreign films.

Reboot = Completely original movie (new storyline). A reboot is like a sequel the resets the whole continuity and can drastically alter the overall tone and setting, e.g. Batman Begins is not recreating any movie (thus not a remake), but obviously it's not a sequel to the previous movies either.
  • that's just stupid.

Just make it Tron 2 since it's a sequel. I think many will misinterpret it as a remake/reboot/rewhatever, while it's not.

I think the logo has the number 2 implemented in the n. The "T R O" definitely depicts a person on a light cycle
  • TRO2
    NICE! now i see it.
  • T2ON
    Why not just "T2ON"?
  • I will be very surprised if they release it as just 'TRON'. I'm sure it was just a leader for the footage being shown.
  • Seems strange... Can't be that a room full of suits spent a couple of days in in a luscious boardroom with free lunch came up with this.
"Hey guys, you know what? We already have a title we can use. Now who wants the sushi?"

"I can’t think of any big movie off the top of my head that has done this."

    Darren Aronofsky's Robocop
  • well that's not even close to being greenlit yet.

A while back I sent you guys the coolest /FILM logo you could ever imagine. I dream that one day I will logon to /FILM and see my logo shining brightly in the upper left hand corner of my computer screen....but alas, I dream.
  • Let's see it.
  • procyon's on the money... you wouldn't call "Batman Begins" a remake of Burton's "Batman", would you??
  • The working title is just Tron fyi.
  • >>>>>>>>>>>>> Who cares? you are all a bunch of nerds.

    Tron Vista: Business Edition
  • doesn't matter is a new Tron movie!!!
  • freemachine
They'll keep changing the name until it's in post-production and screen tested. We have no idea what the final title will be and quite frankly I don't care. I'd prefer they focus on getting the filming completed rather than playing around with possible titles or logos.
  • I thought TR2N was fine. Kinda gimmicky, but 4-letters and to the point.
  • LOL - that's hillarious. Someone make a shirt.
  • todd
Maybe they do the James Cameron thing and go with 'Trons'
  • Palmer
Well this sucks, not only have we not seen the Comic-Con footage in non-cam form but...it's labeled simply as TRON? And for what? People who didn't know about the original?
  • joshi38
I'm going to assume this is a working title, I shouldn't think Disney are stupid enough to do something like this as it'd hurt the marketing.
  • Cat
    Tron works for me.
  • I can understand the uproar, but personally I'm not sure I would be too bothered by this.
  • I can understand the uproar, but personally I'm not sure I would be to bothered by this.
  • what a bloody joke. This will only cause more confusion if this is a remake, a sequel, or LET ME GUESS, a "reboot." Idiots!
  • MrBabyMan
That's not a bad idea. Considering the nature of the plot, "TRON REBOOTED" would actually be an appropriate title in this case.
  • i think Hollywood is overdoing the 'reboot' crap. They forget that James Bond and Batman had good reasons to do so. My logic is this: Just because you can do it doesn't you should do it.
  • reboot is just a politically correct term for remake. Instead of saying "remake" they say "REBOOT" to try to sound credible instead of appearing to be talentless hacks with no creativity.
  • I would differentiate the terms remake and reboot. They have a totally different meaning:

And this is what we call a reboot.
  • 'Reboots' reboot a series of films, a remake just does it once to the original. Easy.

The closest I can think of are Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rambo.
  • Justin
What about Fast and the Furious? Doesn't the new one have the same title?
  • lpfanaddy
Not exactly. The first one was "The Fast and the Furious" and the new one is simply "Fast & Furious"
    Stupid, but still slightly different.
  • yeah it's 'Fast and Furious'. It's kinda clever..kinda not.
  • More like "Fast and Dubious"
  • Barrett
If you tilt your head to the right, the logo looks like a guy sitting on an open toilet
  • I thought it was more like a guy about to be taken from behind by a toilet LOL
  • Barrett
Whoops I meant to the left. Whatever
