The Pussycat Dolls Jai Ho Music Video

jai ho video
I guess we missed this a couple weeks ago, but /Film reader Brad S informs me that The Pussycat Dolls have released a music video for their cover of the Slumdog Millionaire hit Jai Ho. The video is obviously inspired by the movie, but something about watching this thing, complete with the cell phone product placement, leaves me feeling dirty. Check out the video embedded after the jump.

  • I saw this on TV and all I can say is that I think Slumdog has enough spotlighting not to have it's soundtrack ruined by American pop "singers"
  • Another song being ruined by the Pussycat Dolls (another ex. Tainted Love, Sway)
  • harvin _ xxxx
    u got tht right
  • Another song ruined by the Pussycat Dolls. Doesn't anyone remember their remakes of "Tainted Love" and and "Sway"? It made my ears bleed.
  • It's ridiculous how they are butchering traditionally conservative Indian clothing for seemingly no reason at all.
  • Wasabi Steak
Meh whining over nothing. RV probably see is a fan of PCD. Now thats the sobbering fact. Trust me, Indians back home probably get a kick out of a western pop band covering there songs, while in the west a small minority of online people are like "What are they doing?"
  • sadly, you are probably right. A lot of Indians have horrible taste in shitty music. I should know since I'm from India. Oh, not to mention crappy Bollywood movies, too. Ugh.
  • Wasabi Steak
Well I say that to say people should really stop whining over what Indian people like or dont like. If they're cool with its not as big a sacrilige as film nerds think it is. It maybe a crap record but there's worse.
  • It loses its charm from this. Plus them dancing just seems bad. They should have just added the clips from the end credits.
  • Rival
    Yup
  • gah
    eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
  • gah
    ew.
  • Jon
When I watch this I want to throw up.
  • I can't watch this tripe any longer!
  • Also...read the comments on the YouTube page and weep for the species.
  • Youtube and its stupid comments.
  • GVH
    Ho is right
  • Uditvanu Das
cell phone product placement + wierd mix of indian traditional clothing + irrelevant sexual expressions = yuck.... you just killed the song PCD! p.s look at rahman's expression in the song... its serene!
  • Yeah, Rahman actually commented about that in this weeks Time. He said that instead of letting Jai Ho just remain a film score, it should find a new audience. I kinda get the reasoning, but he should have chosen a better group. Comon, Pussy Cat Dolls? where only like one of them actually has a name and sings?
  • not really sure what the point of this cover is. its the same exact song, but in english and somehow it really really sucks ass.
  • not really sure what the point of this cover is. its the same exact song, but in english and somehow it really really sucks ass.

PS. why is it called pussycat dolls if only the one girl is singing?
  • The dance choreography is so awkward!
  • yeah, it's like they're kickboxing or boxing the air
  • Aaron
I wouldn't say that it made me feel dirty watching it. It felt more embaressing for them. It's one of those obvious commercial ploys to rake in as much of the cash that is circling the popular thing at that particular moment. Their lyrics over the original music is just as awkward as the choreography.

For another example of the downfall of modern pop music, look for the hip hop remix of the Numa Numa song. Horrifying.
  • Aaron
    Found it.

Watch it if your masochistic enough to make it through the video above.
  • Infrafan
I'm not even watching it. Don't acknowledge it. Just delete this topic and pretend it never happened. Why even put it up to begin with?
  • After watching this, a part of me died inside. I can understand why A.R. Rahman cooperated with this (I mean, he must have been getting offers left and right after the Oscars), but I still think it sucks and is a strike against his integrity. Also, it is pronounced "Jie Ho" not "Jay Ho" you stupid bastards.
  • The most clothes i have ever seen on them...
    Great Movie, Bad music Clip....
  • Wasabi Steak
This songs been on the radio and music channels for like a month and you just put it up now? lol
  • tom
Actually the first 40 seconds are okay, the horrible dance totally ruined it.
  • Ziggy
If this is supposed to be Indian why are the using Japanese taiko drums?
  • Horrendously hard to watch. I caught it on TV, I'm not going to click play here. If it had come out before the movie, or as part of the movie - maybe. But everything about this is just wrong.
  • XCVBN
I think this is what the Indians call Karma....
  • I want to punch this bitch in the face. as an Indian, I'm really offended that she was trying to look "Indian." Dumb cunt.
  • dannyboy
i doubt you will punch her in the face
  • pcdluver
u guys need to all freaking chill!!!!!!!!! they did a really good job and they
put there own spin on the song so u all need to shut the hell up!!
and stop being jealoussss!!!! just cuz ur indian doesnt mean u need to take
offence to the song there is nothing wrong with it you dumb stupid ass people!
  • OMGWTF!
Isn't getting you to feel dirty the whole purpose of PCD?
  • Dan
I had almost forgotten about this movie.
  • Jay
Grow up for Gods sake, stop trying to claim cultural exclusiveness. You might not like the song but it's going to prolong the life of the soundtrack and increase the profile of AR Rahman in the west and that is a good thing. I'm Indian and I don't care if anyone wants to look Indian and adapt Indian clothes in their own style.

I think she looks fine, and this is what is going to happen in a multicultural world, Indians dig western culture and more and more westerners dig Indian culture and that is only ever going to be a good thing. Plus Nicole does look very Indian like and preety she looks as if she has some Indian heritage although apparently she doesn't, she still looks OK. Put it this way, they wouldn't look out of place in some Indian pop music videos and even some Bollywood flicks where women dress like this these days.
  • Is that one girl the only one in the group that sings, or what? I guess the others are their to just look smokey-eyed and moody and make a symmetrical dancing line.
Ugh, this is probably the only song they've done that I can actually listen to, which is probably more of a credit to A.R. Rahman than anything else. The original song has to be great if I can stand to listen to the Pussycat Dolls' version.
  • Uditvanu Das
@Jay she may look indian, but listen to the song man! its totally killed what jai ho is about.... "When you touch away, I'll make you hot, Get all you got,
I'll make you wanna say (Jai Ho)" ... wtf is that about???? Considering Jai Ho, means 'be victorious'... i think this song, the choreography, and everything about it except for the 'western indianness', was rubbish...
  • Jay
But she is singing the lyrics as imagined by Jamal and Latika for each other. She is singing about how they are each others destiny and they desire and love each other. That's her interpretation of their love and passion for each other.
  • i really can't believe this is real. this music video completely takes away from the movie.
  • Weyland_Yutani
Is this any different than the original song? I say that with the least respect for it possible. It's crap, and therefore, open to interpretation as other crap. The song reminds me of the musical stylings of that pseudo-lesbian group, Tatu. Who knew those girls were so far ahead of the curve on the pulse of Indian culture?
  • zig
    shit's catchy.
  • These Jai Hoes are Jai Horrible.
  • dannyboy
how can u be offended when in indian alot of indian actress or actors using bleaching cream to make their own skin to look lighter skin or even whiter thats more offensive. you cant denie in indian they like people more who is lighter skin then darker skin people i found that so wrong.

to be honest this is just a music video thats done bad with all the advertising in it. they promote a cellphone plus it also promote Dr Dre "Beats" Headphones if you notice them two boy with the headphones are wearing the Dr Dre "Beats" headphones
  • kentonsam
    @ Peter
DIrty as in "Wow! That's sexy!" or Dirty like "What a piece of crap, I can't believe I watched that!!"?
  • It's like having your ears gang raped by a skank and a giant computer.
  • pcdluver
