We are also given the first official plot synopsis for the film, which you can read after the jump.

Crowe stars as the legendary figure known by generations as Robin Hood, whose exploits have endured in popular mythology and ignited the imagination of those who share his spirit of adventure and righteousness. In 13th century England, Robin and his band of marauders confront corruption in a local village and lead an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power. And whether thief or hero, one man from humble beginnings will become an eternal symbol of freedom for his people.

The untitled Robin Hood adventure chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion (Blanchett), a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.

With their country weakened from decades of war, embattled from the ineffective rule of the new king and vulnerable to insurgencies from within and threats from afar, Robin and his men heed a call to ever greater adventure. This unlikeliest of heroes and his allies set off to protect their country from slipping into bloody civil war and return glory to England once more.

  • No Sheriff?
  • wait a minute..

Russell is playing Robin Hood. The Sheriff isn't present in the Cast. Does it mean that...he's...still....(SPOILER)...both characters? Wah wah
  • Cate Blanchett.. I think her beauty can only be admired during period pieces. Because girls were uglier in the past.

  • something about this movie just gets me excited. the real question is will crowe pull a costner and forgo a british accent?
  • fckyea
I want Alan Rickman as Sheriff. Pretty please???
  • Ender
Only if he threatens to cut Robin Hood's heart out with a spoon.
  • wmwm
Why do we need another Robin Hood tale? why Ridley? whyyyy?
  • I think the question is, why not? Why not have another Robin Hood movie? The last one we got had Kevin Costner in it and had Brian Adams singing throughout the entire movie. The movie wasn't bad but it wasn't that great either.
  • wmwm
Unless Ridley's version is so twisted*, then I'll be watching it..

*(which I unlikely don't think so based on Ridley 'the knight' which he try's to remain as true to the historical facts)..
  • He is mentioned at the end of the 2nd paragraph of the synopsis.
  • Gray McAdam
Now it's Crowe, Blanchett, Doyle AND Mark Strong and Vanessa Redgrave!?!

Can I buy my ticket now??
  • Oscar Isaac was great in CHE,
  • can`t wait to see that movie, Robin Hood could really need an update...
  • nemonik
crowe is in't, whom i like. and like ridley, but i somewhat don't care about seeing another robin hood movie...
  • This cast sounds great.
  • Is there any truth to Paul Giamatti as Friar Tuck?I think his quirkiness and excellent acting coud really add something to an already great sounding film
  • Peter
This sounds so uninteresting. If there is one story that has been done too many times, it's Robin Hood. The original concept was WAY more interesting with the audience sympathizing with the Sheriff but apparently Hollywood saw the potential to tap the poor-economy market through a story of a thief for the people. Damn it. Ridley, do more scifi!!
  • wmwm
    I agree with Peter,
One of Ridley specialities is sci fi which he abandon it a long time ago.. Perhaps to venture into new territories and form of storytelling..

    Until, Robin Hood.
  • They also weren't full of plastic...
  • Why Ridley Scott still directs movies is beyond me. :@
  • obin
i concur. i want to see the film "Nottingham" as it was originally intended. Not another robin hood movie... its stupid to even try to be a better robin hood than Michael Praed anyway, hehe
  • I don't think I would like a movie so "Twisted" that it wouldn't even be close to the original. I honestly think that we'll most likely get a Robin Hood movie once a decade, you know, kinda like all those Peter Pan movies of the early 2000's? I would feel the same way you do if they were making another Pan movie. I mean we get two of those a decade.

Close to what original? All we know about Robin Hood comes from obscure literary references. There's no first hand record he ever existed, so really, anything goes!
  • Wow, never thought of it like that. Plus I had no idea that's how Robin Hood came to be. Oh well, I guess the traditional story of him is what I was talking about. They should stay someone close to that.

  • I think Costner actually tried and failed miserably to do our accent. It's English, by the way, not British.

"This is English courage," coming out of an Americans mouth with an American accent was one of the strangest experiences in my life. Made me want to slap someone Stilll liked it though. It was the last time Costner was charming and fun in a role. Now he does roles where he's ultra-serious all the time.

I love Ridley Scott and the cast sounds pretty great, but I'm still thinking the Disney Robin Hood is going to trump this one.
  • Notalenglishisposh
Some great Accents coming up, American Welsh, Canadian Irish, Guatemalan English, Australasia English, English French, and i guess the stereotype type English accents will be the queen, Rather that a Nottingham type brogue......hope the voice coaching is good for this and its drives my naper in hearing costner esq acting and Will scaarrlett efforts from that Christian slater.

Hope its good but i doubt it......
  • Let me guess... We need to see this because it will be a 'darker' telling of the story. Ridley has failed to impress lately, as has Russel Crowe. Why is Crowe so annoying in things he appears in now?
  • dee
Can anyone advise me where i'd be able to get into making some props for this film?(mainly costume)
  • Name
Would far prefer a David Lynch version of Robin Hood, that would be more interesting.
