danny boyle james bond

Last week The Sun reported that Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle is being offered the chance to direct the 23rd James Bond film. We speculated at the time that it was probably an inaccurate story as the source is rather dubious, even though its a newspaper. Well it turns to be false. The filmmaker tells Entertainment Weekly that while he has always enjoyed Bond movies, “I have no plans to direct one.” Boyle went on to say that the story wasn’t true in the slightest: “I don’t know who came up with the story, but please tell them I’m very flattered to be thought of!”

Discuss: So if not Boyle, who should direct the next James Bond movie?

  • Why can't Martin Campbell do it again...I mean he did real well with 'Casino Royale' so I'd rather have him...
  • Checking it out on IMDB right now, it looks like a pretty decent flick. I'll add it to my netflix queue.
  • no love for "Sunshine"? i loved that flick.
  • THAT would be one hell of a ride.
  • Spielberg should do one. Just for fun.
  • How about Paul Greengrass? I love what he did with the Bourne series, his style could easily fit with a Bond picture. I just hope the writing on the next Bond flick is as good as Casino Royale, I personally thought that QoS was pretty weak on the plot...

That's one hell of a funny picture!
  • agree!
  • As much as I would've liked to see this. I think it's a good move on Boyle's part. And depending on how State Of Play turns out, I might vote Kevin Macdonald with Candy Castke.
  • its not like it was his move, he was flattered to be considered but was never really offered the part.
  • This is true.
  • Again Pete, love the photoshop

I see no problem with the last two guys, but if I had a wish list, Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men) would be my very first choice. Past that, Doug Liman would do very well. Tykwer and Letterrier are pretty interesting thoughts. Timur Bekmambetov would be a cool wild card.
  • how about bay? im kidding im kidding. people might want to kill me for saying bay.
  • Mateo
    Luc Besson!
  • I'm thinking Lois Letterrier, as long as he kept it far away from the style of the transporter series, it was very much it's own animal, and should be kept that way.
  • I cant say the same. Loved 28 days later, one of my favorite movies of all time.
  • Oh that's right i forgot about 28 Days Later, I loved that. I really didn't enjoy Trainspotting or The Beach though...

It'll never happen but Scorsese or David Fincher would be awesome. But they'll probably go with a commonwealth director like Joe Wright or Edgar Wright (but he's neck deep in other movies)
  • I too agree, Cambell has a good reputation for Bond? But isn't he doing Green Lantern, which comes out Dec of 10', and they are aiming for a November 10' realease. There is no way he could do both. And would he want to?
  • a quick IMDB search shows that he's in post production on "Edge of Darkness" (due out in November) and he's in pre production on "36" (TBA 09, but currently going through rewrites), and "Unstoppable" (TBA 2011). so no "Green Lantern"...we think. and i'd really hope he'd want to do one more.
  • Yah, but even then he is way to packed to do the next one. Too bad.
  • You mean to tell me that The sun, the most noted gossip rag in the land, was wrong about something? Color me shocked.
  • Curveball suggestion: James McTeigue.
  • mable johnson
    two words: Michael Winner
  • slumdog wasnt good, -1 me all you want but it was all cliches
  • Where it did have its share of cliches, it was still a pretty unique film nonetheless. Also, it gave AR Rahman a chance for his talent to be shown to the world. (if you can't tell i'm a huge fan of his) I haven't really cared for much of Danny Boyle's other work though...
  • Candy Castke
    Someone European of course:
    1) Tom Tykwer
    2) Kevin Macdonald
    3) Erik van Looy
    4) Paul Verhoeven
  • thanks smart guy
  • Tarantino:D

no sh*t. the producers would never let a big named director direct one. they like to have too much control.
  • Shaun
    Mark Forster? Anyone....no?
  • As long as the script is better, I'm down for Forster to return.
  • I wasn't crazy about Boyle doing Bond, so this news excites me. Martin Campbell ftw.
  • richard
the picture looks like bond is about to shoot boyle
  • Sean
I pray to GOD he doesn't remake "My Fair Lady"....don't do it Boyle!!!!

Greengrass is a good pick...but he's already got a better spy franchise in Bourne.
  • Smither
    Paul Greengrass
  • good.
  • let's give the franchise back to Marting Campbell. GoldenEye was good, and Casino Royale was badass.
  • thank god. I would rather see Boyle direct something fresh and original. Hopefully he's NOT doing the remake of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. Fuck that!
  • Agreed. Lady Vengeance needs no remake, and neither does Oldboy (even if it's not "technically" a remake, it's still a bad idea).
  • he really has a knack for doing the under-the-radar.

he thrives when he has a lot of creative freedom, and I don't think he'd get that if he's cornered off within a franchise or sequel.
  • Couldn't agree with you more.
  • Agreed. Lady Vengeance needs no remake.
  • Tyler
Oldboy remake really is a bad idea, totally agree on that with you, but the title of the worst remake-idea of the year pertains to Let The Right One In, there's absolutely no reason to tell this story again, it's perfect as it is now
  • Very true. It was absolutely beautiful.
  • boyle looks disabled

    There's only one.
    Nolan, Christopher Nolan.
