TrekMovie has a first look at the cover of the official novel adaptation of the upcoming JJ AbramsStar Trek movie. But forget about the cover art, the official plot synopsis on the back cover is the interesting part. No big spoilers but some interesting new details about Nero’s plans. Want to know more about the plot of Star Trek? Read the book description after the jump.

One grew up in the cornfields of Iowa, fighting for his independence, for a way out of a life that promised only indifference, aimlessness, and obscurity.

The other grew up on the jagged cliffs of the harsh Vulcan desert, fighting for acceptance, for a way to reconcile the logic he was taught with the emotions he felt.

In the far reaches of the galaxy, a machine of war bursts into existence in a place and time it was never meant to be. On a mission of retribution of the destruction of his planet, its half-mad captain seeks the death of every intelligent being, and the annihilation of every civilized world.

Kirk and Spock, two completely different and unyielding personalities, must find a way to lead the only crew, aboard the only ship, that can stop him.

For those who couldn’t connect the dots, James T Kirk is from Iwoa, Spock is from Vulcan, and the half-mad captain is Nero. For those interested, the book is available for preorder on Amazon for around $10.

    First!
  • first what?
  • i've never been a fan of star trek. i've never seen a movie, watched a complete episode, or read one of the books.

this book description sounds like it was written specifically for Trek fans....there's nothing there to spark interest and pull in non-fans.

i'm going to be giving the film a shot purely because of JJ Abrams. the man knows how to make great television and films, and hopefully this film will speak to me even though i've never had any interest.
  • Not a big fan of Trek either but I'm gonna give it a shot with the new one. I don't know if I'm looking for this movie to "speak to me" but that plot description sounds just bad though.
  • ...and maybe, just maybe, find happiness in each others arms. J.J. Abrams hasn't directed a good movie since, uh, well, never. Stick to TV, bud.

To seek out and boldly go where every Star Trek plot has gone before. Yada yada yada,,,

Sounds like Nemesis, Search for Spock, several Voyager plots and Enterprise, The Zindi War.

I think the most amazing thing about this is,,,, Terminator Salvation is following the same uncreative path, doesn't care about canon, has hack writers, an unproven director, Timetravel and timeline issues are the heart of the conflict. First of a planned trilogy, coming out in the same month and have one of the same stars ,,,, did I miss anything.

As a Star Trek fan... this movie was a complete let down. Whenever a writer takes the "alternate reality" path, you just know there isn't anything that's gonna be right. Canon material is what makes Trek, Trek. As a writer, if you want to stay true to the stories that have captivated audiences worldwide, you must get the canon stuff right. I could see several different ways they could have gone... and since hindsight is 20/20.... I don't wanna appear to just be an armchair critic. If they had just stuck to a few guidelines..this could have been a great movie....
