eclipse barrymore

When it was revealed that Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke would not be returning to helm The Twilight Saga’s New Moon, people were up in arms that Summit Entertainment was going to replace her with a male director (which came to pass). The theory is that the Twilight series is a great opportunity for female directors since the source material is targeted towards women. Also, replacing the highest grossing female director in history after the series became a success seems like a really bad political move.

Now Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Drew Barrymore is one of “a select group of directors” in talks to helm the third film in the series, The Twilight Saga’s Eclipse. I’m not sure what to think of this considering we still haven’t seen Barrymore’s directorial debut Whip It!, but the actress turned director has made some interesting (Donnie Darko) and scary (Duplex) choices with her production company Flower Films. I do like the idea of Summit giving some women filmmakers a chance, because Hollywood’s director’s club is a sausage-fest. Too bad it has to be a project that will most likely be critically slammed.

  • i feel like it should be written like this: the Twilight "Saga".

not interested in these movies in the slightest. i read the first book out of curiosity and was amazed by how poorly written it was, so i say pass.
  • gah
the book reads like it's from a community college creative writing class or some sexually repressed housewife's online vampire fan fiction. We talk about the decline of the film industry, but look at what can get published nowadays. You don't even have to know how to write anymore.
  • Thar she blows! Fans, don't say you weren't warned.
  • I think Summit is trying to rush these movies so all the young girls have less time to grow up and realize how retarded the Twilight "saga" is... sorry but come on.
  • i agree with you most def.

twilight fans are of a lower intellectual grade. the high they get from reading (sloppily written literature) about a pedophile vampire is proof of devolution.

    i dont mind
the first one was ok, not oscar worthy, but it was cutesy and interesting. i am interested in barrymore's possible attemp at helming it. why not?
  • jane pratt was busy?
  • dagreenman18
If it's as unintentionally hillarious as the first one, then i'll be more than happy to watch. twilight is comedy fucking gold. it's another reason why is wish with all my heart MST3K was still on the air.
  • Thanks, Peter, for avoiding the obvious "male dominated" and going with the much more fun term "sausage-fest."

The first is just a bit too much S&M to be fun for me.
  • Drew Barrymore is directing a film "WHIP IT!" with Ellen Page, which I am looking forward to. I think she should focus on becoming a director.
  • I think Drew Barrymore and the Twilight series deserve eachother.
  • Smitty
    exactly.
  • Hmmm interesting...still will hate the twilight series, but Berrymore directing it is interesting...
  • I love Barrymore but seriously. Please stay away.
  • jobless
as someone who has a tween age sister, i can honestly say i hate twilight. and to anyone who knows how the story goes, why are people stoked on the oldest pedophile in literary history? 100+ year old "vampire" goes after like a 15 year old girl... sorry twilight fans, but your story sucks.
  • I don't know if it would be such a good idea for Drew Barrymore to take on Eclipse, which has the most action of all the books. I think if she wants to direct one of the Twilight movies maybe she should take on Breaking Dawn though I really wish they weren't planning on making that book a movie.
  • I agree... I think Eclipse reads as the best 'movie' type of book of all 4 of them.... Breaking Dawn has NOTHING in it that would make a good movie... There's no big climax scene to make a movie enjoyable. But Eclipse has the most need of a director with experience in action sequences...
  • So I started reading the books in high school. I'm on the verge of 21 and in college, and i still enjoy the books. I think its utterly presumptuous of you to think all twilight fans are stupid. I have to agree that Stephanie Meyer is no Shakespeare, but it's mostly about the story anyway. Which isn't just about a pedophile vampire, its a love story. So sue us girls who swoon over the thought of the perfect guy and living forever. Anyway, i think you should take that statement back, its rather rude.

P.S. I didn't care for the movie, the cheesyness and bad acting made me want to vomit.

(I'm now probably thought as one of those crazy twilight fans, who only add fuel to the fire now huh?)
  • To be fair, they were talking about the FILMS being rushed to cash in on the younger/'stupid' audiences who are unaware of just how tacky and unrewarding the movies truly are -- before they grow too old and come to realize this.

    And I agree with them.
  • Yeah I was bashing it on the really shitty movie and the half of that popular trash novel... I am sorry I can't enjoy something with a guy who looks like Zoolander, who is as pale as Michael Jackson, and is over 100 years old and is tying to get in the pants of a 17 year old... Did I also mention everyone else looks like an extra in a Prince music video. So call me sane, I don't see the romance in that... If you want a great romance go read Shakespeare, or better yet pick up one of those soapy air port books. So yeah I won't take it back, and I don't mean to offend you, but those stories are retarded. I don't look at you as one of those crazy twilight plans, I just look at you as part of the problem and not the solution.

i m 19 years old and in university.and i never interest twilight books or movies.because im reading first vampire heart.(i can't belive it.names and story very similar. poor calchman ).however i love drew barrymore but she isn't good director.ah but fan girls only intereset actors not others.sorry
  • I know this isnt a gossip place but this has been bothering me. Have you guys heard about how Kristen Stewart, has been basically talking bad about the movie. That she hates doing interviews about the movie because she doesnt know what to say. And I read an interview where they asked her father why she declined to present at the Oscar, and his answer was "When it's a great movie, not just one that makes a lot of money." I mean come on, how much hope are we suppose to have for the movie when even the actors are just doing it for a paycheck or whatever and its only the 2nd movie. Another reason to dislike this movie.
  • REAL6
Damn im even scared to watch Twlight....

    Is it really that bad?
  • B33
    Well said.

I think the state of society's regard with literature is in a rather pathetic position when this garbage is on the top sales charts.
  • This might be a smart choice for her. Guaranteed commercial success and compared to the first film it will look like a masterpiece no matter how bad it is.
  • Branden
I don't know. I guess when "Whip It!" opens that I would make a judgment about her helming "Eclipse". Is this the third film or fourth? I know there is "Breaking Dawn."

OMG! Why am I thinking about the "Twilight" series? Never mind.
  • its rather presumptuous of YOU to suggest I take my statement back. this is an open forum of ideas and opinions. I have just as much right to state my opinions as you do to counter my argument.

if you don't like my post and believe it to be rude, ignore it.

And okay fine- a LOVE STORY about a pedophile vampire.
  • Hey 108 year old Michael Jackson/Zoolander look a like vampires need love too!
  • This is incredibly risky, placing such a high-grossing franchise with huge potential into the potential hands of a novice in the Directorial chair, however it could also pay off with a name like Barrymore attached. We'll have to wait for 'Whip It!' to find out if her talent stretches beyond rom-coms...
  • I'd like to see Drew Berrymore take up the director's chair, but fuck Twilight.
  • Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Wait. The headline wasn't a joke?
  • sadly, no. haha
  • ndc25
I saw the moies with my younger sisters and thought it was a cute movie for them. There wasn't any excessive sexual content and it was just one of those movies that young teens could swoon over. I had a friend who fell in love with the series, so I read the books myself. I liked the story. Compared to the movie the books were way better, but Meyer isn't the greatest writer in the world. If Barrymore can pull this off, more power to her. I just hope she writes a better script than the first one.

Oh and the acting was horrible. Just like they're supposedly changing the actor for jacobs character, maybe they can do the same for bella and the entire cullen family. Talent please?

twilight was a wonderful book collection to read and it has inspired me to want to be a writer!!!all the stars that played in the movie are truly lucky to be in it because i would give anything to be in it!!!
  • tuesday hathorn

The fact that all of you took the time to look up news about eclipse and then bash on it shows how lacking in intelligence you are! Who cares if women, girls, teens, or adults like this movie! Get off your superficial high horse and look at websites not pertaining to twilight! I am 22 years old and I love this series it let's you escape from everyday life to a world where true love is so beautiful it's painful, no matter who directs eclipse it will be amazing because the story that's behind it is amazing! To all you twilight fans that are getting harassed for loving this series, don't get upset just know your love is what makes these movies come to life, yes kristen Stewart and rob pattinson may be working for a large paycheck but their work is pnemonal, the fact that these movies can bring friends, cousins, sisters, mothers, and grandmothers together for the beautiful story says it value, if you have something negative to say make your own hater twilight page, don't ruin everyone elses opinions with your malicious rantings, tell it to someone who cares!
