Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle and star Dev Patel are in talks to appear on the real Who Wants to Be A Millionaire. This according to The Sun, if it happens, the two would play together on a celebrity edition where the winnings would be donated to an Indian children’s charity.

Wouldn’t it be great if Freida Pinto, who plays the romantic lead in the film, was available to be the “phone a friend” option? I have a feeling that the real life Pinto probably wouldn’t be of much help on a large money question (she wasn’t much of a help at that moment in the film), but it would be cool none the less. Wait a second, is Who Wants to Be a Millionaire even still on tv?

  • How embarrassing would it be if Dev lost his steam very early on? Of course, I'm sure there would be a certain amount of nets in place...
  • is this for the UK or US version?
  • seems like the UK edition
  • Zinc
Pretty interesting, especially if they end up winning it all.
  • So this show is still on air in England? Dev Patel and Danny Boyle should do the Indian version of the show instead (with Shahrukh Khan). They would probably be able to raise more money for charity that way.
  • that would be cool as well
  • It actually got re-picked up to be a prime time show this summer in the states.
  • it's been in syndication for a few years with that Today Show host, merideth something. i didn't know they'd bring it back to prime time. will Regis be back?
  • i was just about to as that last question... would be fun t see.
  • Yes, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is still on the air in the UK. It wouldn't be for the US version considering a UK tabloid is reporting it and the image shows the UK presenter.
  • is the show still successful in the UK? either way, amazing publicity for HWTBaM.
  • Supascoopa
Fairly successful, not as big as it was when it started though. They usually just do Celebrity versions of it a couple of times a year for charity. Haven't seen them do a proper series with normal people on it for a while.
  • I don't think this is a good idea at all.

To avoid the critisism of unhappy internet movie fans, after winning Best... everything at the Oscars, I think Boyle and Patel should stay out of sight for just a little while.
  • "Wait a second, is Who Wants to Be a Millionaire even still on tv?" LOL, that's exactly what I thought when I saw this story. You're the man Peter.
  • wow just curious. how do you get a negative42 ? thats beat

  • It was because I banged my adopted daughter.

    or was that Woody Allen?
  • BULLSEYE
No doubt you contribute to lowering CHEDDAR's score. Well, buddy, you just put a target on your back. I look forward to giving your past and future comments negative feedback.

    Booyaah!
  • Perhaps Slumdog played a part in it being picked for prime time again. Having Best Picture and Best Director Oscar involvement on an episode is a double-positive for promoting the DVD (or ticket sales if it lingers in cinema) and the television show. Groovy idea.
  • A little hard on Freida Pinto, aren't you Peter?
  • I'd like to be hard on Freida Pinto too. Zing!
  • Hahaha. That's turrible. But true.
  • Rena
Seriously. and no one else knew the answer to that question.
  • I believe that it is still on in America, but with Meredith Viera hosting.
  • Maybe they can win the million and donate it to the two child actors who are sleeping under a plastic sheet in Mumbai.
  • I wish I could phone Freida Pinto....but uh yeah I haven't seen Millionaire since like 02, but I'ma give it a look since Boyle will be on it...
  • itcould

  • Since the Oscar wins 'The Sun' seems to be the most-recent media outlet jumping headfirst on-to the Slumdog Millionaire bandwagon. First this story and now one about one of the child actors getting a slap off his father, however I should expect this from one of the lowest tabloids in Britain.
  • Dude...would you REALLY spend your time doing that? I hope for your own free time you wouldn't. Come on, its the Internets! It's all just fun and games! Besides, it's not like I went to every comment he made and voted them down, I just thought he made one dumb comment.
