Jay Roach Won’t Meet The Little Fockers

meet the parents

Little Fockers, the third film in the Meet The Parents trilogy is finally entering the casting stages — Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro and Owen Wilson are in talks with Universal to return.

Meet the Parents and Meet The Fockers director Jay Roach will not helm the third film as he’s too busy prepping Dinner For Schmucks, but is expected to produce. According to THR, the new directing candidates include Paul Weitz (In Good Company, About a Boy) David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer, Role Models); and Peyton Reed (Bring it On, Yes Man). Reed seems like the best choice out of the bunch for this type of material.

Long time Stiller collaborator John Hamburg is writing the screenplay.  The film will obviously revolve around the children of Greg Focker (Stiller) and his wife, Pam (Teri Polo). No other details about the plot have yet been revealed. I really hope they don’t include Ben’s parents in this film as I found the characters played by Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman in the sequel to be both annoying and unfunny. Owen Wilson’s role is expected to be expanded for the third film.

Dinner For Schmucks? Is this a remake of the French movie "Diner de Cons?"

    Wain is above this movie.

The original "Dinner Game" is extremely funny. Recommended for anyone who loves foreign films.
  • I think Wain is the best choice. He's compatible with the outlook but has his own idiosyncratic style and could fix it up a treat.

I think Reed has better options. Unless he's given enough control that he can elevate the series somewhat (much as I suggested for Wain).
  • The reason why I disagree is that Wain's humor is geared more towards a hip younger crowd and I think the demographics of the Meet the parents series is older. I also think his inclusion of more improv might be the wrong direction.
  • I'm on the boundary line right here, the first two 'Meet The Parents/Fockers' films weren't that bad by any stretch of the imagination and it seems the original, recurring cast is back which is a good thing, but do we really need a third film? We've seen the parents, the marriage, and now do we really need to see their kids?

With that said, the first two for financially successful, so I expect this 110% to go through, and in that case I'd like to see what Weitz can do with the third film of the franchise.
  • Please don't do it, Mr. Wain.
  • I love both first films, they were very enjoyable. I would gladly watch this new film as long as it has a good director attached.
  • I would love to see Paul Weitz get this sequel, I think he would handle it well. The subtle style of comedy he demonstrated in About A Boy was spot on and might make a nice change for pace for these films. Though any comedy featuring the philandering De Niro at the moment is risky... Poor De Niro.
  • now with the little fockers coming out, this will be the best horror trilogy ever...ever.

Despressing is this type of new put me lol, De Niro (tied with Pacino as my favorite actor ever) watch Taxi Driver and Raging Bull again then watch facking fockers movie (the 1rst one was very good and the 2nd was between ok and good) to see which you think its better, he need to see that o'tole, Jeff Bridges, freeman, caine, harris, nicholson are still doing good movies, etc.. been old doesnt mean you need to do mediocre movies.
  • Good news...can't wait for this...

I'll tell you right now that Wain is the funniest.
  • Meet the Parents was awesome, hopefully Little Fockers will approach it.

David Wain would be the best choice

I'd much rather Paul Weitz get going on the Another Bullshit Night in Suck City adaptation he commited himself to three years ago rather than some subpar sequel.
  • i agree. the fockers were lame. streisand and hoffman would be a waste of the film's budget.
  • they already did a lot of baby stuff in the second one. i don't really know if they need to do more of that in the third
  • Wow they need to stop it with this franchise. This is ridiculous, the first one was ok, the second one not so much, the last one, hopefully last, will be the worst. They should save their money and not make this movie and use it for something else.

I think that it will be excellent! So far I loved both films and even Dustin and Barbara's roles. They were easy movies to watch and very relatable. They are also movies you can comfortably watch again and again. Definitely movies good for the whole family. So I am really happy to see that this sequel is being made.
