danny trejo machette

Admit it, the cast for The Expendables is fast becoming the impossible wet dream actioner juggernaut that Quentin Tarantino used to chatter up and chatter up and chatter up for Inglourious Basterds. I’m not hating on IB (of course not! geek treason!), just saying: this is Inglourious Old Basterds. Not only is Arnold Schwarzenegger making a cameo as his state faces economic disaster, but now Machete himself, Danny Trejo, is set to star according to our chums at Latino Review. They speculate that Trejo will play one of the South American goons that Stallone, Statham, Rourke, Li, Lundgren and Co. will set out to destroy in utterly profane PG-13 fashion.

With the recent surprise blockbuster successes of Taken and Gran Torino, it seems that audiences are starving for more tough-guy showdowns that don’t involve capes and canon. Drew McWeeny chimed in on this topic a few days ago, and I couldn’t agree more. I still haven’t experienced the type of cliche united “bro-dom” in a theater as I did last year with Rambo. Let’s hope JVCD kisses some veiny, muscled ass and joins this cast because he’s going to regret that “high road” detour for the rest of his life. Count on it. P.S. Stallone call Cash.

Update: So Gov. Arnold might not be dropping in after all due to the economy’s downturn.

  • webb
that guy has some incredible tits!
  • hahaha.... McWeeny...

    ok, im done.
  • Nice...Machete...
  • So, this will be a PG-13 movie?! Total Pass if that's the case. You can't have BADASS without major carnage.
  • Palmer
I just want to know when the man's going to do Machete.
  • filmkid
wait a PG-13 thats not right this movie should be R-Rated with the type of cast they have dont even feel like a PG-13 movie. we want badass shooting and death scenes.
  • "it seems that audiences are starving for more tough-guy showdowns that don’t involve capes and canon." F*CK YES bring it on! Sick sick SICK of the superhero movie bollocks. Another reason I wish Watchmen would just disappear already. Can't wait for it to come and go just as quickly.
  • Jon
    I want another Cape! :(
  • to make it PG-13 all they have to do is limit blood...take out swearing, drug use and sexual content....all things that aren't going to stop this from being a cool action flick...while PG-13 used to hinder a project now it can be still made badass...they've relaxed somewhat when it comes to action films

  • yeah he's one of the tougher guys added...I'm more excited for Trejo than a lot the other stars
  • epleterte
to make this PG-13 is just retarded. Stallone will soon come to his senses. hopefully.
  • i'm excited for watchmen. but as far as future projects go, I could not agree more.

STOP IT with the shitty ass superhero films. STOP making every third movie based off one comic book or the other.
  • This needs Bruce Willis.
  • oh yeah... i forgot about bruce willis... too bad JCVD turned it down man...
  • Well they got to pay all those B level actors somehow and R rated movies make significantly less at the box office historically. Unforchently that's the way these things work.
  • Watchmen isn't about superheroes though. At least not in the Comic form.
  • Ben
    Chuck Norris
  • Weyland_Yutani
    absolutely.
  • I bet Arnold will still find time to film his cameo. I mean he's got to be getting tired of not making movies right?
  • What about Kurt Russell?
  • I hate to burst your bubble but Comic Book Movies will be around for awhile after the Box Office records The Dark Knight broke. I know you don't like them, I read your comments all the time, but it's true that they aren't going anywhere for awhile.

I am happy though that we are getting a great action movie like this. I actually don't know if it will be great but it's starting to sound like it is. Oh yeah, the reason why we haven't seen action movies like this is because they all got boring and repetitive, every other action movie was about one lone guy that somehow took down an entire terrorist organization. It gets stale after awhile but I think we're at that time where everyone will like it again.
  • now we just need Steven Seagal, Chow Yun-Fat, Wesley Snipes and Thomas Jane
  • =( hollywood will just keep pooping out the comic book movies. i think it's going to get to the point where it's action-movie-stale though, and then they'll curb back a little bit.

i like em. it just seems like that's all they can think of now. once they stop making so many, i think we'd appreciate the ones that do more.
  • how could you forget chuck norris man?
  • they're not thinking about what movie they need to make next, they're thinking about which story will make them the most money. that's why we get tons of sequels. Sequels are supposed to bring in tons of money and that's truly what Hollywood is wanting. I do agree though that once this type of action slows a bit they will revert to the traditional action movie.s
  • I didn't I was just suggesting people who haven't been mentioned yet..... I'd be all for Norris, Willis and Russell as well....hell I'd even enjoy seeing Vin Diesel in it as well..hehehe
  • I didn't I was just suggesting people who haven't been mentioned yet..... I'd be all for Norris, Willis and Russell as well....hell I'd even enjoy seeing Vin Diesel in it as well..hehehe...they need to pack every role no matter how small with action stars
  • yeah. good films today are diamonds in the rough.
  • Where the hell is Kurt Russell?
  • indiaonline
Apart from stallone all the rest never really had film careers. Except jet li (hong kong)
This film will bomb as the 80's past us long ago...
  • AWESOME - YES WE NEED MORE RVENEGE TALES, LIKES THE 80'S - CHANNEL SOME OF THIS RECESSIONARY HATE AND ANGER! LIKE PREDATOR, BLOODBSPORT. VAN DAMME SHOULD DO BLOODSPORT, HE IS GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION.
  • You guys are forgetting that in order for this movie to be the end all be all of action flicks, it has to include Action Jackson himself Carl Weathers, Jesse The Body Ventura and Steven Segal.
  • Oh and there is no way this will be rated PG-13. Sly proved with Rambo that people will come out to see an R rated action flick. This needs to be R or else it will be pointless.
  • REAL6
Kurt Russell, Michael Biehn seem perfect for the movie!!!
  • Landfill, I know they will keep up the comic films and (as you say) that is to be expected with the recent box office takings... Spider-Man, Batman, IronMan, Watchmen (probably), X-Men... sh*t if I was a studio exec I would be greenlighting like mad! So I am aware and can come to terms with that (I ENJOYED The Dark Knight and Iron Man, btw) but I also like to see OTHER films finding traction while the comic trend continues on its merry way. Which is why it is pleasing to see this film being developed, sort of against the grain. Though I guess it would have many comic book qualities going on when you think about it.
  • this is starting to look like a classic sly movie
  • tjpearce
I think what we have to do here is fairly clear... fix California's economy fast!
  • grammy
SEGAL! I want to see Steven Segal in this movie! =D
  • rebecca
Oh for crying outloud CALIFORNIANS! It's just ONE DAY of filming, surely we could all forgive Arnold if he popped onto the filming set for ONE DAY, even in the midst of this crazy f**ked up economic crisis! The economy will (eventually) recover, but this cinematic matchup of Stallone & Schwartzie would last forever on the big screen!

I SAY GO FOR IT! Can't wait for this film, and I'M SO HAPPY to see Eric Roberts and Danny Trejo have been added - they are two of the BADDEST bad guys in film history. I never did understand all the fuss over Julia - I mean, she's okay and all, but I've always much preferred her brother Eric.

    WOO HOO!!

I think as a follow-up, Stallone should do a COMIC SPOOF of our beloved 1980's action hero's, to include every single BAD-ASS action actor from this new movie (The Expendables), and then just add guys like Steven Segal, Van Damme, Kurt Russell, Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, etc. Hey since it'd be a comedy, even throw in Eddie Murphy for kicks!
  • I really can't wait for this. Full-packed action stars. All we need is Mr. Die Hard so this movie will be so dope!
  • I say go too. I can't wait for this movie. It's gonna be dope man. Danny is the best ever. He always give the audience a blast with his character in ever movie.
  • Name
Call Wesley Snipes!! They both did a great job together in Demolition Man.

PG scares me. With this cast, there has to be some blood and carnage worthy of a PG-13 rating.
