Warner Bros. Looking to Rehash The Fugitive

fugitive

First of all, I don’t want to say “reboot”. It doesn’t sit easily with me,  not even when we’re talking about a remake of a TV to film adaptation (if that description even fits).

Production Weekly reports via theur Twitter feed that Warner Bros. are looking make another The Fugitive film. There’s no more information in their 140 characters, but the basics are all there. They did the meat up a treat and I’m just pudding some spuds on the platter.

The 90’s Fugitive film was incredibly popular in it’s day but I had a lot of serious issues with it. As for the TV show, I must have seen about six or seven episodes around the time of the film’s launch but they clearly didn’t leave too much of an impression on me, as now my recollections might as well be reflections in a bowl of scummy dishwater.

I think Harrison Ford acquitted himself admirably last time around, but the film was really a starmaker for Tommy Lee Jones. His character received a spin-off, US Marshalls but that was enough to throw the franchise off of the dam. As a result of “The TLJ Effect”, I expect some very big casting for the fugitive’s pursuer in the next version. Josh Brolin, maybe?

As for who would play the title role… I’m taking a wild stab in the dark and assuming they’ll skew younger than Ford. Not Zac Efron young, but not Matthew Perry past it either. Something in the middle.

I’m deliberately not mentioning the 2000 attempt to get things going with a new TV series because I don’t really know anything interesting about it other than that Mykelti Williamson play the pursuant Lietenant. Did you see it? Was it any good?

I think The Fugitive, The Incredible Hulk, Kung Fu and The Littlest Hobo were all, essentially, the same TV show, weren’t they? All that wandering around getting up to mischief. Which reminds me… what became of that proposed Kung Fu movie…?

  • Dude, aren't they doing Bonnie and Clyde with Hillary Duff? (Really, I heard that rumor here on /film a little while back, I think.)
  • I don't think anyone else has to post anymore comments after yours. You sum it up quite nicely in one very long word.
  • You're right. Should have been "I've been deliberately not..." rather than what I had.

Oh god, just shut up about being one of the only people not to like the movie or the show. And for the record the 2000 series was okay. But a remake so soon after the movie is a horrid idea.
  • no... "this is the worst idea in the history of bad ideas"... points to anyone who can say what highly mediocre movie that came from... at least which movie i am thinking of. clue... jeff goldblum said it.

  • HELL NO.
  • Actually, Warner produces the show, FOX is the network that buys and airs it. But Warner actually produces it. Trust me, I've done work over there. But Warner doesn't OWN the property but they are in charge of production and budget on the show and they do have a financial investment in the movie.

I do agree with you on the Remake business, i was so angry when i heard that there was going to be a Transformers movie back in the day, but god damn i loved it. SO yeah, initial negative reactions are natural when bringing up remakes haha.
  • Deep down, you love Brendon Connelly.
  • Fox does the Terminator TV show...Warner Bros. doesn't own Terminator they're just distributing it here and Sony is overseas....I think they want to develop a Bourne like franchise without the spy element...since they already have Bond...it's not so sacred just an endless lack of creativity on the part of WB....perhaps they'll actually do it justice you never know...but we hate the idea to remake "good" movies...so they're going to get a wave of initial negativity

  • Warner Bros Exec: "You know what the world needs right now? A Fugitive remake!"

    I mean, really?
  • Dr. Doc
omg this is such a terrible idea!

i think the Ford one was a great flick. i find myself watching it whenever its on tv. i just get sucked in. such a great movie

U.S. Marshalls on the other hand, completely blows. i hate that flick. They should have had TLJ chasing someone who is actually guilty. like a serial killer or something. instead he and his crew look like incompetent retards. plus its waaaay to long
  • Man, Hollywood is really starting to piss me off right now...
  • for every good movie that comes out,

hollywood insists on giving us either A) a remake, or B) a comic book movie.

maybe it's more like 2 for every 1 good movie. iono.
  • The Fugitive remains one of my all-time favorite films. U.S. Marshals was acceptable. Robert Downey, Jr. was terrific in it. So excuse me for pulling my hair out. To quote Bob (from another movie): "This is every shade of wrong."
  • Haha I was just saying that shit yesterday...I hope I don't live long enough to read a headline that says 'Shawshank Redemption remake starring Shia LeBeouf' or something stupid like that...
  • Jon
US Marshalls was a great film! I've watched it like 20 times!

Reboot...rehash, whatever. They mean the same thing.

"I’m deliberately not mentioning the 2000 attempt to get things going with a new TV series because I don’t really know anything interesting about it other than that Mykelti Williamson play the pursuant Lietenant. Did you see it? Was it any good?"

    That would be mentioning it.

Anyway, I'm not sure why this is shocking to anyone. Hollywood has been out of ideas for what seems to be the last decade.
  • and you forgot to mention The Hunted with TLJ playing an FBI tracker sparring against Benicio Del Toro. I consider that part of the Fugitive Triumvirate. Anyways, transformers 2 is all that matters.
  • "I think The Fugitive, The Incredible Hulk, Kung Fu and The Littlest Hobo were all, essentially, the same TV show, weren’t they?"

How did you forget to add A-Team to this list? Same just in group format.
  • hahaha I loved the Littlest Hobo growing up...and yes they're all pretty much the same concept
  • I have to agree with a previous comment, THE FUGITIVE Isn't so sacred that I'd be against it... but i do beg the question, WhY? Why bother? there's a fugitive-esque chase movie at least three times a year, and they're all the same with slight variations. Leave the fugitive be and just write something original.

Warner, here's an Idea, your terminator show is starting to tank, spend your money on budget increases and writers to make the show better. Don't bother with THE FUGITIVE, i think every audience member will just roll their eyes when the see the trailer anyway... except for maybe a group of pop-culture impaired teenagers who think it looks fucking incredible, dawg!
  • NO - PLEASE DONT. THERE SHOULD BE A THREE STRIKES AND YOUR OUT RULE. EXCEPT YOU ONLY GET TWO STRIKES AND GET DK'D AT YOUR ATTEMPT AT THREE. HOW CAN YOU DO BETTER THAN JONES AND FORD. MAKE A SEQUEL - THANKAS!

seriously dude, what kind of serious issues did you have with it? i mean, it's a movie, you either like it or you don't. and considering you didn't like it, or the TV show, i'm wondering why this story has been posted at all.

they already did take a crack at a new Fugitive Series I actually watched it a bit, it wasn't too bad. It was on CBS from 2000-2001 and Tim Daly (Wings) was Richard Kimble. The fugutive remake is a terrible idea, lets take a story that has been played out and is not even that much of a story to begin with (doctor framed for murder by one armed man, the rest of movie he runs and gets proof of his innocence). How many times are we going to have to hear that "the one armed man did it"? Im sure that's what Warner Bros. will say when it flops.
  • Not really down on the idea of a remake for this but way a movie why not give anoter crack at a The Fugitive TV series.

What can you hope to accomplish by remaking this particular film? It was decent enough the first time around. It's not like you can make it any better.

I can't wait til they remake The Godfather or Shawshank or even the Dark Knight. That will signify the end of Hollywood cinema
  • Sure, come up with an original idea... I can't say this one is downright blasphemous. The '93 film has its moments yes, is a fun movie, but I don't think it is something sacred. It was a remake anyway. The concept in theory warrants an update as tech and crime change, just like the last time around, but I can see this going bad; lowest common denominator, explosions and such and such bad.
  • I don't know which I have the most trouble with: the question "Why remake these films?" or "Argh, why NOT remake these films?"
  • Fonz
    WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY????

Why remake a movie that's not even 20 years old? Why don't they remake the Goonies or Top Gun or Beverly Hills Cop? Rush Hour? Enough with the remakes/reboots/sequels/prequels...Just come up with an original idea Hollywood
  • I'm with you. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • BHC4 is in pre-production, I think
