Robert Rodriguez’s Nerverackers Details Revealed

Robert Rodriguez

Last month word broke that Robert Rodriguez was involved in a mystery project called Nerverackers, set up at Dimension with an announced release date of April 16th 2010. We had no further information about the project, until now. Variety confirms that Rodriguez will write and direct the futuristic thriller which follows “a character named Joe Tezca who is part of an elite unit dispatched to quell a crime wave in a theoretically perfect future society” in the year 2085.

Rodriguez is known as a technically trained multihyphenate, who is able to produce fantastical special effects sequences on a budget much less than most other contemporary filmmakers. So a futuristic sci-fi film seems like the perfect arena for Rodriguez next. And this also basically confirms that Rodriguez will not be directing a Predator reboot, Sin City sequel, or Grinhouse Machete spin-ff… or at least not any time soon.

I was thinking the same thing. That photo of him has run it's course many times.
  • A sci fi film is exactly what RR needs to do next.
  • That fact actually crushes me a little.

  • Stole the words right out of my...fingers.

Now if only they could get Sting to write the title track for Nerverackers soundtrack like he did for Demolition man.
  • Actually, it was already a Police song by the time they named the movie "Demolition Man". Sting may have re-recorded it for the soundtrack.
  • I've seen this before, it's called Demolition Man

  • 'Nevercrackers' sounds like it has potential...
  • I didn't even think about this, but you're probably right. Hopefully it won't be too bad though. But it's bound to be present.
  • Today was my birthday, and I got The El Mariachi trilogy and Sin City from different people.
Its a Rodriguez day for me!
  • I just hope he stays away from homages I really loved Planet Terror because of the references to other films...but it was far from original....this one sounds somewhat new but I'm sure we'll be able to spot out influences most likely John Carpenter
  • Like _Christopher_M, I too have been waiting for Rodriguez to make a Sci-Fi film. I thought it would probably be a Philip K. Dick novel or something though, like Dr. Bloodmoney. However, I'm actually happy that he's going for an original script instead.

Sounds pretty cool, Can't wait to see what Rodriquez's future looks like. This sounds really awesome, I'm also enjoying the original projects that are coming out of Hollywood. Crappy remakes and adaptations, and "reboots" can kiss my ass.
  • he sounds like the right man for the job. hope to hear more news of this project in the near future.
  • I'm in the belief we don't have enough..lol...I love science fiction and Rodriquez is someone I was waiting for to make a film in the genre...I think we actually have a lot of people jumping into sci-fi just to make a buck...but people like Rodriquez and Ridley Scott are fans/innovators.... although who really wants to see a Logan's Run remake by Bryan Singer..along with the Flash Gordan and Buck Rodgers movies....I'm just happy people can stop whining about Sin City 2 for a couple of months...

  • I hope he gets this done. It has the potential to rock.
Personally, I am sick of sequels, remakes and spin-offs. Anytime I hear about an original project in Hollywood I pray they get it done, even if it winds upf sucking at least it will suck in a new way.
  • and here i was hopin for spy kids 4...

    darnit.
  • but but Machete.............
  • Ill be so happy when this promo still of Rob-Rod dies. Oh but i'm in the theatre on this one.

Has anyone noticed sometimes, even though he might save the money, his films suffer over multiple viewings because the performances are kinda flat?
