Over 30 New Watchmen Photos

Warner Bros has released the final batch of Watchmen production photos, including a few comic to film comparison shots like the one above of Veidt’s Antarctic retreat. More after the jump.

A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, “Watchmen” is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the Doomsday Clock–which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union–moves closer to midnight.

When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the outlawed but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion–a disbanded group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers–Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future.

Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the Watchmen?

“Watchmen” is directed by Zack Snyder (”300″) and produced by Lawrence Gordon, Lloyd Levin and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay is by David Hayter and Alex Tse, based upon the graphic novel co-created and illustrated by Dave Gibbons and published by DC Comics. Herbert W. Gains and Thomas Tull are the executive producers, with Wesley Coller serving as co-producer.

Playing the film’s core group of “Masks,” the adventurers at the center of the story, are Malin Akerman (”27 Dresses”) as Laurie Jupiter, aka Silk Spectre II; Billy Crudup (”The Good Shepherd”) as Jon Osterman, aka Dr. Manhattan; Matthew Goode (”Match Point”) as Adrian Veidt, aka Ozymandias; Carla Gugino (”Night at the Museum”) as Sally Jupiter, aka Silk Spectre; Oscar® nominee Jackie Earle Haley (”Little Children”) as Walter Kovacs, aka Rorschach; Jeffrey Dean Morgan (TV’s “Grey’s Anatomy”) as Edward Blake, aka The Comedian; and Patrick Wilson (”Little Children”) as Dan Dreiberg, aka Nite Owl II.

  • Loving the photo of Doctor Manhattan caught in the visor reflection on the astronaught's helmt.

Veidt looks like an old lesbian in the 7th picture down... I'm very excited about this movie, but Matthew Goode may ruin this for me. In an interview, he said that he gave Veidt a German accent.
  • Everything looks great, Rorschach especially. I loved both Wilson/Haley in Little Children and I expect nothing less from this. Veidt doesn't look quite right but that seems to be the consensus here. Oh well, hopefully he pulls the character's persona off well regardless. This, HP6 and Inglorious Basterds are the movies I'm looking forward to most. *fingers crossed*

    Walter Kovacs just so awesome.
  • Damn it looks good.

Also, Veidt should be in his 40s. Why does he look in his late 20s..?
  • Nathan Name
My only hang-up, isn't Veidt a physical specimen???
  • Grishenko
The Walter Kovacs picture is Jizz-in-my-pants worthy. Nixon.... tsk tsk, unless there going for the grotesque

i was thinking the same thing Thrillhouse
  • gah
Nixon "lookalike" = Fail. Same with Manhattans eyes. Looks like someone cut out paper and glued them over Crudup's eyes.
  • don't think they were going for an exact, more like an exaggerated look, in the graphic novel he is much more corrupt etc. The nose is bigger and longer, makes him seem untrustworthy and menacing

    SPOILERS

They made Adrian Veidt look FARRRR too "bad guy slimey." The average viewer who hasn't read the comic would look at him and say, "so, he's the bad guy?"

And that is literally my ONLY complaint so far, until I see how the new ending plays out on screen.
  • ARG JUST BRING IT OUT ALREADY!
far too pumped to see this :D
  • Check out that fourth pic again, the one with Carla Gugino/Silk Spectre. Notice where the cop to the right of her is looking.

    Giggity.
  • and the one behind her :)
  • Ben
He looks as much like nixon as Nixon in Frost/Nixon
  • I kind of wish the kept Walter hidden until the movie came out. Other wise I love all the pictures.
  • Kovaks is perfect. Just perfect.

I can't believe its less than a month away now.
  • Some of these frames look amazing. Then I see that last image of the silhouettes kissing and I remember this is an old comic book story... and there is no way I'm going to see it until someone I trust from the film arena gives the all-clear. Seriously, who else besides fanboys are convinced of seeing this after witnessing these images and/or the trailer, for example?

The box office takings for this film are going to fascinate me.
  • Those are some really nice images. I have a feeling that this movie is going to do very well at the Box Office.
  • Silk Spectre and Dr. Manhattan about to kiss = my new wallpaper.
  • Damn these are some sweet photos! I did have a small amount of doubt if Jackie Earle Haley would look right as Rorschach without the mask...but he actually looks nearly perfect!

That hairdo is killing the crush I have on Patrick Wilson though. lol.
  • I'm not gonna judge till I see the movie, but Veidt's suit is a little bright. I still can't wait to see this. It has the potential to replace TDK as the best comic book movie. We'll see. All the viral advertising for it has been spot on though, and that gives me a lot of hope. Only 20 days 21 hours and 30 minutes!!!

    HOLY FUCKING WALTER KOVACS!
  • RACHEL SUMMERS
I KNOW WOW!!! GOOD JOB JACKIE!!!
  • Wow.... amazing, thats all i have to say. I cant fuckin wait!!!!! AHHHH!!!
  • The only negatives I am getting from this is the Nixon makeup and that Matthew Goode doesn't "look" like a good Veidt.
  • don't think they were going for an exact
  • No big complaints..although Dan hunched over doesn't look as heartbreaking as it did in the book.

I agree. I think it's the angle it's shot at and the fact that the lighting isn't as low key. That and the single night owl suit and the solitary figure of dan isn't as pronounced. Another small quibble I had was that Lauire with the pistol doesn't show signs of tears - in the comic she had mascara dripping all down her face after seeing the carnage in NY. She doesn't look disturbed there, just a little miffed.
