Angels & Demons Movie Trailer

Sony has released the full trailer for Ron Howard’s Da Vinci Code prequel Angels & Demons. I’ve said this before I’m a huge fan of the book. It’s better than the Da Vinci Code in almost every way, but, I’m not sure that either of Dan Brown’s Langdon books could be properly translated to the big screen. Much of the story in this series is told through conversations, code interpretation of puzzles and reveals of unknown history, all of which are inherently un-cinematic. And most people agreed that the television spot was one of the worst movie ads to air during the Super Bowl this year.

That said, the full length trailer is incredibly well edited. It features a lot of fast cuts and probably contains more action than the entire first film combined. Did Ron Howard pull it off? Watch the trailer after the jump and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Official Plot Synopsis: The team behind the global phenomenon The Da Vinci Code returns for the highly anticipated Angels & Demons, based upon the bestselling novel by Dan Brown. Tom Hanks reprises his role as Harvard religious expert Robert Langdon, who once again finds that forces with ancient roots are willing to stop at nothing, even murder, to advance their goals. Ron Howard again directs the film, which is produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and John Calley. The screenplay is by David Koepp and Akiva Goldsman.

When Langdon discovers evidence of the resurgence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati - the most powerful underground organization in history - he also faces a deadly threat to the existence of the secret organization’s most despised enemy: the Catholic Church. When Langdon learns that the clock is ticking on an unstoppable Illuminati time bomb, he jets to Rome, where he joins forces with Vittoria Vetra, a beautiful and enigmatic Italian scientist. Embarking on a nonstop, action-packed hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and even to the heart of the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra will follow a 400-year-old trail of ancient symbols that mark the Vatican’s only hope for survival.

  • looks like it has the potential
  • 'The Da Vinci Code' wasn't that bad, but this def looks better, I will see it for sure...
  • Yeah I didn't think it was as bad as some said, it was decent. Da Vinci Code really dragged at times and had the same problems as the book. This looks good though, nothing special but it looks good. It has Obi Wan vs Forrest Gump, whats better then that?!?!
  • Enthropii
lol. But i agree. I actually liked the Da Vinci Code. It wasnt as good as it could have been, but there was that nothing bad about it;.
  • still haven't seen the first one, and don't care.
  • I looks kinda stupid.
  • yep
    yeah, you do
  • Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I laughed a while on that one. I guess I'll wave to watch my typing around you.
  • Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I laughed a while on that one. I guess I'll have to watch my typing around you.
  • tom.
    awesome.
  • national treasure with tom hanks
  • Hmmm. I thought National Treasure was DaVinci Code: America.
  • 790
Ron Howard and Tom Hanks, can't you just smell the high octane action?

    I smell something,,,
  • gah
Tom Hanks, please quit wasting your abilities.
  • I don't understand why the guys who were trying to promote science were the bad guys and the catholic church who killed them all are the good guys. I didn't read the book but that's what I got from the trailer.
  • The book was awesome. I've read both The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, and I always thought The DaVinci code was the better of the two.

I thought the DaVinci code sucked but with the promise of more action I think this one has more potential. Looks like I'm being suckered in aagain. Not sure if Tom Hanks is a great action star, and if Howard has the knack for directing these kinds of smart-thriller movies. Where's Scorsese when you need him?
  • It does have a pretty bad voice over to the trailer though.
  • This movie doesn't look bad at all. I watched The Da Vinci Code a few years back and thought it was alright, this one looks like it's going to be alright too. I will most likely watch this movie.
  • I really hope they change the ending from that of the novel. I thought it was great up until that point.
  • than why post on the article?
  • Since you haven't read the book, I'll tell you that it isn't that way at all.
  • oh ok
  • Lance_HBomb
Kinda both sides are the villains...
  • it was a prequel, have they changed that for the movie?
  • i actually liked "Angels and Demons" better, but that's just my opinion. that said, i think this looks pretty damn good, even though i didn't particularly like the first movie (as an adaptation).

at least the mullet is gone.
  • Illuminati
I don't know, I think it looks like they've made it a sequel. I suppose it doesn't really matter, except that now Sophie gets bumped for Vittoria instead of the other way around.
  • NOTHING is better than 'Obi Wan vs Forrest Gump'!!!
  • Doesn't look like a bad movie...but as much as I love Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor, I doubt I'll be seeing it in theatres.
  • It's got to be better that The Da Vinci Code
  • Steve
    Exactly what I was thinking.
  • That_Guy
    I'm Jewish.
  • And that makes a worldly difference to post about!

    /friendly sarcasm.
  • YouDontKnowMe
Booorrrriiinnngggg. I want more "Inglorious Basterds" please!
  • Agreeed!!!
  • Kyle
Sorry. I can't get excited with Akiva Goldsman still helming the scripts. Ruined Da Vinci Code, ruined I Am Legend and has come to do it again! For that reason, I can't get excited. They'll change things that totally alter the book's point for trivial reasons. Da Vinci's ending was horrendous.
  • i surely hope that my skepticism is wrong.
  • jamie
angels and demons was an absolute trash novel, and the first movie was practically unwatchable

still....i'll probably give it a chance
  • this looks interesting...I can't say I've read the book so it catches my interest slightly more...I find that books I've read that have been adapted usually aren't as great as the novel...but then again Three Will Be Blood was an excellent adaptation....the trailer cut reminds me of Argento for some odd reason
  • "Angels and Demons" is a better book than "Da Vinci Code", in my opinion. this book was written first, but oh well. this does look better than the first one though.
  • Angels and Demons is a much better book than The Da Vinci Code, even though the ending is fucking ridiculous. Hopefully the movie follows suit. On a related note, what was the last good movie Tom Hanks was in?
  • Spoiler:

    The Vatican nearly gets nuked.
  • lmao. i always thought of DaVinci as National Treasure for adults.
  • The funny thing about your guy's comments is Dan Brown is writing a book that will basically be National Treasure. "The Solomon Key... to involve the character of the Harvard professor Robert Langdon. The book's story will take place in the Washington DC area, and focus on the work of the Freemasons."
  • The Da Vinci Code was just an okay movie so hopefully Angels and Demons will be better. I like the Spiritual Warfare aspect to the story .
  • Ender
Angels and Demons was a much better book in general than DaVinci Code (although Code has a slightly better plot). This trailer reflects that well.
  • Greg
First impression: Ewan Mcgregor's accent is irritating
  • cogezek
The fifth fucking sign better be in some kind of scanty nontraditional non-cotton orange garment
  • Nick
I read both of the books and saw the movie The Da Vinci Code, and I have to say I think that Angels and Demons is just a far better story in general, so I'm pretty psyched to see this!
  • DIdnt Tom Hansk get paid a mass amount for this movie? Havent seen the Da Vinvi Code! Might pick it up before i see this
  • jasper21
im really qiute annoyed i thought the book was so full of energy and kept you reading right til the end! but yet the film is missing key plots and characters! The director of CERN doesnt make an appearence, they changed the name of the carmelengo, and dont get me started on the beginning of the film! im hugely disappointed it wouldn't have been that hard to put the whole book on film.
