Some of the voice cast for Zack Snyder’s animated film based on Kathryn Lansky’s children’s book Guardians of Ga’Hoole has been announced in tonight’s edition of THR. The supporting voice cast includes Jim Sturgess (21), Geoffrey Rush (Pirates of the Caribbean), Rachael Taylor (Transformers) and David Wenham (300).

It has been rumored that Hugh Jackman, Hugo Weaving and Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) will make-up the voice cast lead roles, but that has yet to be officially confirmed.
The animated film is an adaptation of the 14 book bestselling kids series by author Kathryn Lasky and illustrator Richard Cowdry (the film is based on the first three books in the series). The producers have described the tone as more “Harry Potter” “than Happy Feet.” The story follows a young barn owl named Soren, who is kidnapped by owls of St. Aggie’s,where owlets are brainwashed into becoming soldiers. He and his new friends escape to the island of Ga’Hoole, to assist its noble, wise owls who fight the army being created by the wicked rulers of St. Aggie’s.

Guardians of Ga’Hoole is scheduled to hit theaters on July 30th 2010.

Oh wow!! I can't believe they're actually making a movie about these books!
Can't wait to see it. I've always thought "There should be a Ga'hoole movie." and now there is going to be and wow.

This'll be awesome! i've kept up with the series and am looking forward to seeing these characters come to life.

anyone who hasn't read the book can't even begin to diss it! i think it's neat that they're bringing screen actors into the project... it's a powerful story, give it a chance.

    I'm SOOOOO excited!!!!
  • Geoffrey Rush can do no wrong, and I'm glad to see Daisy's doing stuff still (only nerdy LOTR fans will get the nickname reference.)
  • I've never heard of these books o_O
  • I loved Taylor in Transformers... i'm there.
  • Loving all the Aussie love Snyder is showing.
  • kudos to aussies
  • On a similar note, I'm so glad this is being produced at "Animal Logic" in Sydney. After the success of "Happy Feet" I was really hoping that Australians would start producing polished animated features continuously, I guess that is slowly happening.
I only say this because - as an Aussie with an interest in film making - I'm so sick of all the "coming of age" stories that we produce, it's like the only thing we're good for anymore!

  • i would imagine you don't need established screen actors for this project. Seems like a kid movie that won't be incorporating adult humor in it.

can't say i'm excited. pretty indifferent towards this one.
