Edgar Wright has released a new (half) photo of Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World on his myspace blog. She definitely looks the part. Click on the photo above to enlarge. Thanks to /Film reader Michelle N for the tip.

Based on the Oni Press graphic novel Scott Pilgrim Volume 1: Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life, written by Bryan Lee O’Malley. Winstead will play an American delivery girl named Ramona V. Flowers, the dream woman of a 23-year-old Canadian slacker (Cera) who must battle and defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends to win her heart. Scott Pilgrim was recently ranked 89th on Wizard magazine’s list of the 200 Greatest Comic Characters of All Time. You can preview 23 pages of the graphic novel on ScottPilgrim.com.

  • She's really cute. I don't know much about this property but from looks alone I'd say they nailed it.
  • They did pick someone who looks the part. I also just have to say that Mary Elizabeth Winstead is quite the looker.
  • yeah, she's adorable like Audrey Tautou
  • Lopez
Met her before, really cool girl. She nails the look.
  • cool, i guess.

Not to nitpick, but the movie isn't just based on the first volume of Scott Pilgrim, it's based on all six volumes, even the final one which hasn't been released yet.

P.S. Volume 5 in stores now. It's kinda brilliant.

Really? All 7 boyfriends in one film?! The end of volume 3 seems like a decent place to end the first film with volumes 4-6 making up the sequel. I'm expecting something similar to Kung-fu Hustle crossed with Ghost World. Should be cool but won't come close to the supremely entertaining books imo.
  • She 'looks the part' in that she can open her eyes wide like on the cover??
  • Female? Check. Short hair? Check. Eyes? Check.

    Yup. Nailed it.
  • if only casting was that easy

When I think of Mary Elizabeth Winstead, I think of Emma Stone.
  • Err, I can't really see enough of Mary Winstead to make a judgement, but what I do see as looks human and good enough, I'm more curious to see Wright's directorial style on this film though.

this film will be a fresh step away from the 'typical' comic book film. and winstead is simply my #1 celebrity crush...i'm a sucker for those adorable dark haired white girls.

also keep in mind that miss flowers changes her hairstyle quite frequently.
  • It's interesting how all the photos released for this project are not really showing anything. Do they feel that they need to keep all this quiet or something?
  • yes
  • i've never seen her in a movie, but i know i'll love this one, and she'll probably be a big part of the reason why

been meaning to pick up scott pilgrim for AGES though!
