/Film is on the scene at the 2009 New York Comic-Con! Although the NYCC (held at the Javits Center) is not nearly as overpopulated and out of control as its San Diego counterpart, there will still be some neat footage and panels this weekend that me and Devindra Hardawar will be covering for the site over the next 48 hours.

This evening, we had the privilege of seeing a screening of the new Futurama direct-to-DVD film, Into the Wild Green Yonder. Amidst thousands of enthusiastic Futurama fans, the two of us along with Alex Billington from Firstshowing watched the fourth (and potentially final) Futurama movie unfold. It’s no secret that Devindra and I haven’t been terribly pleased with the quality of the most recent direct-to-DVD films. Did the movie live up to the best of the series? Hit the jump to hear our thoughts.

[Apologies for incorrectly referring to the film as Into the Wild Blue Yonder. The title is, of course, Into the Wild Green Yonder.] Despite any qualms or criticisms we may have had about the movie, one thing is for sure: Futurama movies should always be enjoyed in the presence of other (preferably thousands of other) Futurama fans. Into the Wild Green Yonder will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on February 24, 2009.

Also, for absolutely no reason whatsoever, here’s a video of Alex Billington expressing some love for his Macbook Pro:

See you guys tomorrow with some more coverage from the New York Comic-Con!

  • Yo that second video is kind of amazing! I'm super jealous of him, his laptop is soooo hot!!
  • I've seen better.. lol
  • Macbook Pros do have a tendency to heat up.
  • I so regret not traveling to New York cor the Con. Damn the recession! I've yet to meet Devindra, so seeing him in clear full motion video is kinda cool. And Alex Billington like a movie and offer no criticism? Stop the presses! Good video Dave!
  • Ha! I knew youd say that! Shame on you Peter!!

I've also met Danny from the Totally Rad Show in LA now too. So not only do you need to move to LA, but you also need to come on more trips!
  • aww cute, its like a film critic dating system right here!
  • I can hardly recognize you Dave. I vote for you to pixelize your face whenever you release these types of videos.
  • I wasnt a Fan of any of the Futurama Films, i didnt even know there was a new one coming out.
Good to see other people from Slashfilm..
  • Is the release date of Feb 29th correct?
  • Ack! Sorry Youseph, the correct release date is February 24th. In my defense, this video and post were made after a long, long day...
  • Thanks David! I appreciate the info. I am excited to see "Into the Wild Green Yonder"!
  • i wonder if david chen (or maybe its his evil twin peter chen?) always calls people by their full names (with accompanying titles), even in small social situations

*dave and peter sciretta walk into a fast food restaurant, devindra waits at a table for the two*
Dave: "hey devindra hardawar from the slashfilmcast on slashfilm.com, this is peter sciretta from slashfilm.com, sometimes youve heard him on the slashfilmcast on slashfilm.com."
Devindra and Peter: "hey! nice to meet you."
Dave: "wow, it's david chen and devindra hardawar and peter sciretta, all from slashfilm.com and sometimes heard on the slashfilmcast found on slashfilm.com - the three musketeers together for the first time! *dave puts hand in middle of group* all for one-!"
*devindra and peter look at each other awkwardly. they walk away"
Dave: *still standing with his hand out* "And one for all! Yeah!"

aww guys you know i jest, i love you guys! (purely platonic love, of course. my romantic love is for only one - delicious cake)

"Hit the jump to hear our thoughts.'

    So... what were your thoughts?
  • maybe you should hit the 'play' button.
  • huh I did not know Devindra was indian.
  • it's an indian name, dude.
  • *woosh* ;)
  • dang! i still have to watch Bender's Game!
  • Whatever happened to Futurama making new episodes for Comedy Central?
  • Palmer
I think the movies are considered the new episodes for Comedy Central.
  • He would introduce Peter as "This is Peter Sciretta, Editor and Chief of Slashfilm dot com." Other than that, it's pretty spot on.
  • haha and now lets discuss macs...
  • I've recently got back into Futurama after finding out that they are screening these direct-to-DVD films on Satelite Television (Sky One), however it is annoying when they are in 3 or 4 parts spread over a few days!
  • i definitely appreciate that they are still making these movies. i really miss the show....
  • We have a co-worker we nicknamed Macbook.

I did like Bender's Big Score, I felt the stroy was well done and it got me really into it, but the only complaint I had was that there weren't enough jokes. Though thats not neccessarily a bad thing, I guess they wanted to focus on the story more.
The Beast with a Billion Backs was okay, but it was kinda too goofy and I did keep askin myself "What the???"
Bender's Game I felt was definately the funniest of the first 3 and I did enjoy it. They did take too long to get the the D&D Universe though and it did feel as if they wasted quite alot of time. Still, at least we got to see Leela and Amy make out!
I'm looking forward to this one and hopefully Fox will put Futurama back on the air. Not to mention, THE SIMPSONS SUCKS NOW AND IT SHOULD BE CANCELLED! HOMER IS ANNOYING!
  • Fudimplan
