In 1989, unwitting Utah actors starred in the undisputed Worst Movie in History: TROLL 2. Two decades later, Michael Paul Stephenson, the legendarily inept film’s child star unravels the improbable, heartfelt story of an Alabama dentist-turned-cult movie icon and an Italian filmmaker who come to terms with this genuine, internationally revered cinematic failure.

This is the plot synopsis for the documentary Best Worst Movie, which is an official selection of the 2009 SXSW Film Festival. I’ve always loved the concept of fandom, especially when groups of people come together in appreciation of something that is so bad that it is fun. This film looks like a absolute blast. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Hahaha this made me laugh like no trailer ever could.
  • Awesome! I love Troll 2, so I can't wait for this film. I'd also love to watch one for Teen Witch. "TOP THAT!"
  • *Adds to the must-see list.* As described in the post and the trailer, this film is so bad it's good. I remember catching it on cable years ago and I just couldn't turn it off... I wanted to see what lame thing they would try to put past me next! Classic.
  • I was 7 years old when I saw this movie on VHS. I'm not going to lie this movie scared the crap out of me. I remember my Mom laughing out loud during some parts and eventually I realized how bad of a movie it was. My first semester of college someone actually offered to buy the VHS off me for $50. I was like WTF? That night I watched it again and couldn't stop laughing.

This movie is the best worst movie I've ever seen. Man when that kid says that they were REALLY trying to make a good movie, I almost spit out my cofee
  • LOL oh man I cant wait to watch this, Troll 2 is hilarious!
  • Bodine
saw Troll 2 on the big screen in Nashville TN not to long ago. I've loved terrible movies for a while but had never seen this classic before. I was blown away. def. one of the best worst film ever.
  • Never heard of it. Is it worth it?
  • Oh yes.
  • absolutely. if you can't find it anywhere, it's on Netflix as a Troll/Troll 2 double feature. skip Troll and go straight for the glory of Troll 2. Cant wait to see the doc.
  • I've never seen Troll 2. But I totally remember that "OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOD" part from a Youtube video.
  • I'm sooo going to Netflix Troll 2 now. I must see this awesome shit movie
  • Jfive
Didnt the kid pee on the food or is that in Troll 1?
  • Joel
If you haven't seen Troll 2 yet, grab a group of friends, free up an evening, get some drinks, and prepare to be in hysterics. You can't watch this film alone; it can only be seen in large groups of people to be fully appreciated.
  • Im SOLD.... This Documentary is a must see..
  • Damon
i was at the atlanta screening for the doc! been looking forward to this film for over a year! OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  • sam
i saw troll and troll 2 on hbo a couple of years ago and immediately i thought it was the worst movie ever made after watching 10 minutes. I forced my family to watch it and it instantly because our standard for horrible movies. It's great though, it's so bad it's good.
  • onethirtynine
that was a really long trailer.
  • Tom
I saw troll 2 in NYC a couple years ago when they did a tour and they filmed some stuff for this movie with me and my friends talking to the guy who plays the dad. I've been waiting to hear some news about this documentary forever
  • GregoryV
    Is that Le Video??
  • Although I didn't find the 'Holy F**kin S**t" section online
  • Haha i love movies that are sooo bad their good! must look out for this one! i have a feeling u torrent as video stores wont stock them
  • I picked this out as a 'Must See' from Peter's post on SXSW 2009 a few days ago, but knew absolutely nothing about 'Troll 2'. A couple of Google searches and a quick browse on YouTube later and 'Troll 2' is definitely a film I must now "see with interest." Best Worst Movie? I'll have to find and watch 'Troll 2', but if the trailers anything to go by, this film is anything, but bad!
  • i'd recommend some friends, some drinks, and a troll 2/the room double feature. that's a quality evening.
  • I hate myself for not having seen this movie already. Only very funny clips online.
  • Notes:

Average of 3 stars on Netflix rating system, based off of 15,324 votes.

2.0/10 on IMDB, based off of 8,416 votes.

    0% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Needless to say, I've added it to my queue.
  • Some films are more fun if they are really really bad. It turns them into Mystery Science Theatre 3000.
  • Wildman
As bad as Troll 2 is, the worst movie ever must be The Room.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0368226/
  • Nick
    1. Troll 2
    2. The Room
    3. Showgirls
    4. Rocky Horror
    5. The Wicker Man (remake)
  • Troll 2 is awesomely bad. However, it is not the worst movie ever made. Manos: The Hands of Fate holds that title with distinction. It is so bad that it goes from so bad its good back to bad again. Even MST3K had trouble with this movie, it is truly that horrible. Whatever you do don't watch it. If you must, watch the MST3K version. Even better watch Troll 2.
  • hahahahahaha... I need to watch Troll 2 now!!!
  • Jay
"Nilbog...it's goblin backwards!" I rented this as a new release on vhs as a kid and right away knew this was a "special" film. Years later, and it has a huge cult following! Priceless! Midgets in potato sacks!

I rented some microphone equipment to George Hardy back when the crew was in Boston for a Troll 2 screening last year. He was a really nice guy. He actually came into the store wearing a T-shirt of himself. It was comical. He basically introduced himself by saying, "Hi, I'm George. You ever see a movie called Troll 2?"
  • troll 1 is a great film. troll 2 is ok - they should bring them back.
  • anyone ever seen Legion of Doom?????

There is a pyramid under Los Angeles that these kids stumble upon and wake up the old Egyptian Goddess who is hellbent on taking over the world. So she raises 5 mummies from the dead to be her army that will take over the world.

These feared Mummies can barely walk, they can't even grab the humans.... and apparently are destroyed by getting beaten by a pool umbrella and other stupid things....

    it is utterly rediculous

I was at the LA screening (NuArt) in 07 and Fragasso was there. He seemed totally cool with the film's place in history. However, the screenwriter seemed a little upset. Through her translator she seemed to not totally dig everyone making fun of the movie. Good times, good times.
  • What about "The Room" by Tommy Wieau. Check it out ; it's AWESOME!************
