So for those of you who missed it, the huge transformer that Opimus Prime is seen hanging off from at the end of the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Super Bowl teaser is in fact - just one Constructicon. And not the even more gigantic monster Devastator (which is made up of 5-9 constructicons). Another thing I noticed about the teaser is that 70% of the footage comes from what I would estimate is the first 20 minutes of the film. We know this — the opening battle sequence takes place at the Asian power planet. The Decepticon that is seen transforming on the run is speeding through a city with asian signs, as is the clip from the end of the teaser with Optimus hanging off of the constructicon. If you look closely at some of the screen captures I posted yesterday, you’ll notice that the highway signs on the bridge are also written in an Asian text.

So basically what I’m saying is that the Super Bowl teaser is only the beginning. It will get much bigger, and much more intense. If most of that action is from the first 20 minutes of the film, imagine what the rest of the movie will be like.

Update removed Michael Bay quote, apparently was not real.

The Transformers fanatics at TFW2005 have finally figured out what the alt mode vehicle is for the constructicon seen in the Super Bowl teaser. It is a Terex O&K RH 400 Hydraulic Mining Excavator, which is apparently “the largest machine in the market world wide.” This 1.000 tonnes class unit is able to four pass load the ultra large mining truck of 400 tons payload. You can find out more about the unit on TEREX.in. Thanks to /Film reader Timelordthewhite for the tip.

  • It actually looks like it takes place in China from those street signs.
  • Freaky Jason
The drive on the right in China, not the left. Maybe its Japan or Thailand

thanks for the update guys! i know i will get ripped for this, but i really hope this is bay's 'empire strikes back'...yes, i fucking said it. i'm 100% rooting for the guy & the autobots.

dammit i wish they were real.
  • Asustin
Bigger Longer & more intense can lead up to a boring Plot... dun forget what happen most anticipateded on POTC 3... but I'm looking fwd to it... so far now, it's my most anticipated movie of 09
  • Peter,

Something else to mention is also that in the Superbowl commercial... the middle shot, with the Transformer being chased and converting to a car... in HD you see that he is being chased (look into background) by other transformers and that's also the Audi R8 transformer... which if I remember correctly, Michael Bay showed when he was shooting the first shot for T2
  • FilmDrunk
I was also going to point out that the RopeofSilicon article was made up, though that does sound like something the real Michael Bay might say...
  • I want to see how big they make devastator in this movie.
  • I'm sure a lot of people have seen this, but this looks bad ass.

But I can't wait to see Bay's version, even though I know it won't be quite the same.

I hate this site because everytime i post a link they delete it but they will let you do it? COme on???

But that pic is real sweet!!!
  • Ojam
QFT, I posted a link in the high resolution pics comment section yesterday saying that its a Terex RH400 with a link to better pictures of it and it was deleted. :-/
  • Well I didn't post any html, if that's what you're doing. I simply threw in the link as text without the http stuff on the front and voila. Maybe you could try that out? Or maybe I just got lucky =D
  • That pic right there is how I wish the live action Transformers was like. More gritty and clunky... realistic. They are a bit too sleek and shiny, almost too many alien moving parts to make ems smooth. THAT PIC is more like what fans were pining for, I think. Well, me anyway.
  • I definitely have to agree with you there. I would have much preferred something that looked a bit more like the original transformers. But on the other hand, I'm not too terribly unhappy with Bay's version.
  • danield6
I'm guessing that the Autobots will definitely have a match against Devastator. Maybe Omega Supreme, who is known to be bigger than Devastator. And ooooh I can just imagine him to be the aircraft carrier. Damn it, I'm so excited!
  • evanz
What is an "Asian power planet"?
  • MrD
Omega Supreme is the power plant!?
  • khkg
it's a new genre of porn
  • That is surely a good-omen for the rest of the film if the awesome teaser/spot was simply the beginning of the film! This is looking to be the most enjoyable film of the Blockbuster season hands down!
  • REAL6
Devastator is made up of 6!!!
  • I agree. how in the world are they going to make it out of nine.
  • Because they will all seamlessly fold with their millions of shinny little components and blend together in a heartbeat... I hate the way Bay's transformers transform, and I am not looking forward to how seamless, swift and silky smooth Devastator will be with 9 robots all becoming one. It has potential to be utterly ridiculous.
  • Antony_Kinsey
yes, because the concept of a race of shape shifting-intelligent-sentient-robotic-alien-warriors from a doomed planet makes MUCH more sense if they are just not very good at transforming. and then having more than one transformer being good at transforming with other transformers into one gigantic transformer makes almost NO sense. unless of course it takes them an hour and a half to do it, and there are spare parts everywhere, because the technology of cybertron is clearly on par with something comprable to an etcha sketch powered by a pentium 1 processor. in that case it would be the polar opposite of utterly ridiculous, whatever that may be.

honestly man, if they can do it at all, don't you think it makes a little more sense that they would do it well? i like G1 transformers too, but that idea is at very least equally laughable in the "utterly ridiculous" department as bay's vision is. just suspend disbelief and watch gigantic robots pummel eachother and let megan fox hypnotize you with her hips.
  • You make valid points, but still doesn't change my distaste for the concepts Bay has gone with... but you're right, I'm more than happy to live with it so long as Megan Fox continues to hypnotize me with her hips.
  • Nitewise84
I would have loved to have seen the Transformers look like they did in G1. However, at the same time I wouldn't. The movie wouldn't be as exciting as it is if Bay didn't give them a new look. I mean every comic book and cartoon has giving them a new look, why not one for the movie. I'm not saying your wrong just stating that change is good and interesting to see.
  • You see, this is the view point I'm taking as well. I like Bay's version, it's different and that's ok. I would also like to see them look more like the originals, but I'm good with change...sometimes. =D peace.
  • If this is only the begining, compare it to the blackout sequence at the start of the first one. wow. This will be epic. It definitely looks like its turning into Bay's Empire.
  • "Would you say I had a plethora of robot/explosions?"
  • Nice one =D I saw what you did there. "Oh yes, you have a plethora."
  • At least somebody got it lol.
  • big deal. I hate Transformers.
  • ???
    Then why reply Captain Tool?
  • I guess it's a good thing to have the biggest construction machines in this film.
  • Stella Adler
I just noticed, in the last shot of the trailer with the RH 400, that there are actually TWO giant wheels on that Constructicon. There's the one it's supporting itself on and then another one of the same size above and behind it's head. Interesting.
  • Very interesting, cause it looks like the vehicle uses tracks in the photo, not wheels.
  • Kernan Rio
The tracks transform into wheels. That's why they are called Transformers. =)
  • Jack
If just the size of one of the Transformers gets everyone so excited. maybe Transformers 3 will have Unicron who is much larger then the entire planet Earth.
  • Once upon a time, I remember them saying the idea for Transformers was to be a trilogy.

    Movie 1: Introduce the transformers.
Movie 2: Introduce the getsalts... aka Devestator. Get a sense of how big they can get...

    and then.

    Movie 3: Unicron.
  • 6 tranformers blending together? man i can see this being one heck of a "boss battle"
I like how bays transformers change seamlessly! i think in the comicss and tv series they couldnt fit all the millions of bits transforming into the image
  • marz
why on earth would they NEED 6 to 9 robots to form devestator?the old one had 5..1 for the body 2 for the arms and two for the legs.what, they need one for a neck..maybe a few for knee caps?guess we have to see but that seems to many.also be nice if optimus had a trailer that transformed like the toy they had...actualy that might be corny lol.
  • I wanna know where the hell he gets that big ass wheel from...it would seem pretty odd to see something transform into a wheel if that is the case?
  • GregM
You know what? In Transformers 3, there's going to be a robot that is 87,000 miles tall. You heard me. Is that not cool?!?

No. No, it's not. Since these things are exactly as big as Michael Bay arbitrarily decides they should be, I have no idea why anyone would be getting excited over this.
