For everyone out there who has ever participated in a late-night slumber party, examined the Ouija board game during an intense sharing session, and thought to themselves “This board game could be the basis for a kickass movie,” I have two things to say: 1) What on earth is wrong with you? and 2) Good news! Although we first reported on a Ouija-based film way back in May 2008, Producer Brad Fuller recently informed Sci Fi Wire that he’s very close to hiring a “very high-level” writer to draft a script for Platinum Dunes’ Ouija-themed film. While promoting Friday the 13th, Fuller explained, “I don’t think we’ve closed the deal, so I can’t say, but we’ve got a very high-level writer to write that, and we start writing it, I think, within the month.”

Brad Fuller has made a very lucrative career out of re-making classic horror films: From The Amityville Horror all the way through to next week’s Friday the 13th (not to mention the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street), Fuller has proven that he knows how to re-package old school horror for modern day audiences. But as he’s now about to tackle a Ouija-based film, it seems to me that his success has gone to his head.

Fuller also revealed that the Ouija film will be “a huge movie. That’s a big, big, big thing. … It’s more of a, like, Pirates of the Caribbean adventure story, with a Ouija board at the center of it.” Well, I guess that sounds like it could be good. I mean, if they could make a stirring adventure at the high seas based off a Disney theme park ride, then maybe a movie based on a board game with no characters, no story, and no gameplay to speak of could also be good, right? Wrong. (Although to be fair, this movie will probably be as good as all previous Ouija-related outings.)

Discuss: Is anybody looking forward to a Ouija board film?

Followed by Ghostbusters 3 to clean up the mess... Word of the wise people, DON'T FUCK WITH THOSE THINGS...
  • So I guess it'll be a supernatural Jumanji... OK. Why?
  • that's exactly what i was thinking. Jumanji - Robin Williams - David Allen Grier - Kirsten Dunst = absolutely nothing of value.
  • I liked the Whites kids U' know Ouiji board video.....

I have a feeling this is going to be like "when a Stranger calls" or something generic like that. I can see the trailer now. Black screen- girls are whispers and with eerie music. Shots fade up of the exterior of the house then lighting hits. We cut inside the the hall way. Dolly through it to the bedroom door on the end of the hall way. Door opens and 5 girls are sitting around the Ouiji board in PJs. We see the arrow move with all their hands on it to "no" The all start laughing and point out how Jenny isn't going to prom because the board told her so. Now, one of the girls brings up a scary question( probably when Jenny will die). Jenny protest but gets forced into it with the other. The board says something stupid then the all laugh at the scared girl. After they remove their hands the board moves it's self to spell out some horrific like "1 hour" they are all scared now and yell at the girl who brought up the question. the argue and fade to a different scene of girl in bathroom and a face is in the mirror! Then cuts of girls screaming and one probably tries to go out the window but fall into the pool then gets sucked into the filter and the house is locked followed by a zoom in of a girl backed against a wall screaming. Cut to black. The word "Ouiji" fade up glowing green and a faint voice saying "I don't want to play this anymore"

Movie is probably going to be lame but a decent hit amongst high school students and middle school. I'm guessing a PG-13 rating too.
  • I wan to know what producer has ever gone out and said we are very close to getting a "low-level writer" on board.

Doubt this will be the least bit dark/horrific. However evil/satanic/dangerous Oijas may be(Ive seen it!), theyre still a consumer product, and this film will probably be a marketing tool.
  • If they can make Monopoly the movie, they can do this. Doesn't mean it will be good.
  • There was actually a British film made around five or ten years ago that focused around a Ouija Board (and the usual 'evil' crap...) and the after-math, the film was so utterly brilliant that I can't remember it's name nor who was in it! Then again what should we expect from a man who's only ideas revolve around films he saw twenty years ago...

they have already made a ouija board movie called Witchboard that came out in 86'. Which has a ton of sequels so making a movie about it is nothing new. Especially if there was a british film about it as well.

    A Quija board movie?

    "G O O D B Y E"
  • Next up Candyland: The Next Generation. A quaint little town made completely out of candy is terrorized by a giant with a sweet tooth.

I bet this turns out to be something like The Ring.

Bad idea. Quija Boards are frightening, I hope that it doesn't promote the use of the game because there are enough idiots infiltrating our earth who would gladly chat with a demon, and then Satan will rule the mortal world forever!...
  • I will see this shit if they change any use of the word Goodbye to Bye! Good
  • This could be a Horror version of Jumanji.. Sounds interesting and hopefully they can pull it off or at least make it a B grade horror flick..
  • There's gonna be a new movie curse with this one like the Poltergeist franchise. Just wait and see.
  • This is possibly the worst idea ever! Then again they made jumangi into a movie...
  • Timothy
Are you gonna use ZZ TOP song "T.V. Dinners" as a Soundtrack Opener - where the guy in the music video uses his board as an eating tray... n' some crappy clay animation monster comes out to play ? C'mon, it's already been done.

If they can make "Where the Wild Things Are" look so amazing- I'm sure there is hope for Ouija. But then again- the comments are spot on with "Jumanji" but that was NOT A GAME. It was a book.
