Super Bowl Sneak Preview: Year One

Columbia Pictures has released a sneak preview of the upcoming Judd Apatow-produced biblical comedy Year One. The film stars Jack Black and Michael Cera, as a couple of lazy hunter-gatherers who are banished from their primitive village, and set off on an epic journey through the ancient world. Directed by National Lampoon’s Vacation and Groundhog Day helmer Harold Ramis, and written by Office scribes Gene Stupnitsky & Lee Eisenberg (you know, the guys working on the new Ghostbusters script).

The Super Bowl sneak preview clip shows Black and Cera’s characters trying to hunt for food, when they run into a bunch of farmers named Cain and Abel (David Cross and Paul Rudd). Watch the clip after the jump.

Year One hits theaters on June 19th 2009.

  • Meh.
  • There's...a Whole movie of that sorta thing? ...huh. I've got my doubts. Not saying parts of that weren't funny but...like, and hour and a half of that?
Tops I'd give it 63 minutes.
  • /ambient
    looks alirght.

note to Ramis and Reitman: Please PLEASE for the love of God ...

DO NOT MAKE GHOSTBUSTERS 3 INTO INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    aka CGI-fest
  • Mr.62
    Aka Rejected X-Files script
  • Dude, that movie was released 8 months ago. MOVE ON.
  • yeah that xfiles was sad
  • Jack Black doesn't tickle my funny-bone at all, however the Cain and Abel fight scene did get a chuckle out of me.
  • I don't know how you can deny anything Jack Black related, now this may not be a hilarious laugh fest but I doubt it will suck at all.
  • haha David Cross rules
  • Hey.

There's Black in my Apatow and now I'm confused.

Or am I watching Arrested Development: The Movie?
  • This hurts me on this inside.....

Maybe if it were a Monty Python movie.
  • joe
awwwww nawwwww this movie looks horrible
  • Anything Jack Black has my vote.. This could be a funny film.
  • You got Paul Rudd, David Cross, and Jack Black. How could it NOT be funny.
  • agreed. stir in a little Cera angst and we're all set.
  • I won't be judging the movie based on this clip. It wasn't funny per se, but I will hold further opinions until further evidence is revealed.
  • I thought it was hilarious when Black pulled out a whole stack of arrows when he was just trying to just get one arrow. The rest of it wasn't all too funny, but I agree with Benu -- the premise sounds really promising, so I'm going to hold out.
  • boy, you guys must be loads of fun at parties. yeah, the clip wasn't hilarious, but the "oh god, what have i continued to do?" part was loltastic.
  • Rob
I think it is going to be more Wholey Moses than Life of Brian.
  • starscream9289
HAHA If only the Bible was this fun to watch xD
  • lujs
So if you people don't laugh out loud it's a horrible crap?
    damn..
  • holy shit. just spit all over my screen. who said the Bible wasn't hilarious?! That Cain and Able fight scene did it to me. Looking forward to this!!!
  • I was in the right mood when I watched this clip, so it had me laughing accordingly. Very much looking forward to this as a result.
  • "What have I continued to do" is very funny.

    I'm hopeful.
  • Palmer
It was okay, but I want to see a little bit more before I plan on paying 8 bucks at the theater.
  • I don't know if I could take 2 hours of that. It looks like a Mr. Show skit.
  • Matt
I'll take 2 hours of Mr. Show over a lot a crap these days...
  • Dylan
A bit disappointing, still sorta funny
  • nice looks funny
  • Jay Beezy
I think there's dry humor present here so it could be effective in that manner. Having said that, I think Funny People will be a more promising Apatow production than this.
  • I definitely agree with you here, can't wait to start seeing footage/trailers. But I do believe this movie has the potential to be great, or maybe it's just because I love anything with these actors (rudd, black, cera, mintz, etc..)
  • freemachine
This doesn't look even remotely as clever as Life of Brian. I know it's only 2 minutes of footage, but it's a horrible 2 minutes. Hopefully this isn't one of the best scenes.
  • this si going to be one of the funniest comedies, esp. this clip cross? rudd? cera AND black... i think this is genius
  • I think the group of comedians is genius but what I just watched was idiocy.
  • yeah i agree with you peter. the talent was there but they went the slapstick lowbrow comedy way. shame.
  • I'm still set to see it. Looks like it could have potential or just be "OK".
  • this is going to be one of the funniest comedies, esp. this clip cross? rudd? cera AND black... i think this is genius
  • Haha this looks hillarious! Very jack black humour! Which these days im quite a fan of
  • Reason
The only point I got was that religion sucks and the theology beind it pretty much sucks too. It's nice that these guys put it on display so that fanatics can see just how absurd and ridiculous they look...
  • We need to see more first.
  • I'm waiting for a full trailer. I am going to be crushed if Year One turns out to be no good.
  • mATTsCOTT
i like harold ramis and the two writers from the office. i really hope this movie is funny.
