Rumor: Robert Rodriguez to Producer Predator Reboot?

Rumor has it that 20th Century Fox is developing a Predator reboot with Robert Rodriguez and Troublemaker Studios in the producers chair. This according to Bloody Disgusting’s reliable sources, who also claim that the idea is for the film follow a team of commandos who must face a mysterious race of vicious monsters. That’s right, not just one Predator, but a whole group. That change alone is sure to cause fanboys to throw a hissy.

I’d be more excited if Rodriguez was personally attached to direct, but his upcoming slate is pretty damn full already, and it seems very unlikely. Also, no writer has been hired to pen a screenplay yet, which means this project must be at the earliest stages of development.

Discuss: Do you want to see a Predator reboot with multpile Predators?

  • I think I remember that Rodriguez had an idea for a third Predator in which brought all those who had defeated a Predator onto the Predator home planet for some kind of tourney.....or I could just be making that up.
  • Wow that sounds funny as shit...I'd wanna see old Arnold and Danny Glover kick some ass...Fuck the reboot!
  • This will be a sci fi channel movie. Horrible idea. The sequel was bad enough.
  • worse than either of the avp movies? doubtful.
  • Only if Jean-Claude Van Damme plays one of the predators who complains that the armor is too hot.
  • why reboot it if you can just make...Predator 3?

Is reboot any different from remake? It makes no sense now.
  • Same thing I was thinking...I say NO to a reboot, but a part 3 I would be happy to see...
  • ARGH! Something tells me that the IESB interviewer Sanchez convinced Tom Rothman to do this, he even said in the interview. Damn you Sanchez, DAMN YOU! Well it cant be any worse then the AVP movies... can it?
  • Hopefully this is only a rumour and stays there as well, because when I hear 'Predator sequel' I instantly think back to those absolutely mind-blowingly terrible 'Alien vs Predator' films. If they can't put two of the greatest film incarnations together and create a film worth watching, then they certainly won't get anywhere with a 'Predator' reboot (I hope anyway, please walk on by!).

Im sorry but Rodriguez credibility just went out the window. Im sorry but any classic AHNOLDDDDDD movie "SHOULD NOT" be remade!!!
  • I'd be down for another installment, but I don't like the idea for trying to re-do the 1st film. I don't even see why anyone would want to do it....It's like the new Terminator film trying to re-do T2....you just can't do it...it's plain wrong

If you are doing a reboot, then don't have it anywhere related to Predator in any way. That way it'll just seem like another take on the story and not attempting to replace or fix the first....or in most cases take away or blemish the orginal
  • cineMATTic
This is a tough question. On the one hand, I'd love to see a film with a group of predators coming down and ruining shit. But on the other hand part of the draw of the first film was that there was only one. One single predator. And that was awesome, it made them more menacing and badass. I'll be excited either way, but disappointed as well for what the other could have been.
  • Oh Boy! ANOTHER remake/reboot/sequel!!! I love how Hollywood has NO new ideas at all anymore. Leave the 80s alone and stop remaking them!!!
  • REAL6
Hey, hey , hey, you cant even put the word Sequel next to remake/reboot!!!!

Watch what you say. SO how was John Rambo or ROcky Balboa or Tron 2.0 or other movies being made after 10 to 25 years? Id rather see a shitty sequel like Indy 4 and i thought it wasnt that bad compared to a stupid remake/reboot!!!!
  • I hear you on that :-) Even though I am sick of sequels (Spiderman 4?) they do go down easier than remakes/reboots. I just wish the Hollywood machine was interested in telling original stories. Every now and then I welcome a remake/reboot, but when every other news story is about a sequel, remake or reboot...it's easy to get jaded.
  • REAL6
I hear you. I never understood Hollywood. There are millions of books out there. Just pick a book, find the person who wrote it, get the rights and make the damn movie. Why make a movie that's already been made? I really don't get it sometimes.
  • filmkid
HELL NO to a reboot to Predator there is no point to reboot it just make Predator 3 and thats it these film studio going crazy with rebooting and remaking i dont mind of certain films to be rebooted but not Predator. they just need to make Predator 3 and let the humans fight them on there home planet for a major battle
  • Justin Craig
Totally agree! The original Predator is just fine the way it is. It's a freakin' classic! If they want to expand by making another sequel, then it's all good. But replacing a classic would be a worse idea than the Vince Vaughn version of Psycho. Also, Delta Assault makes a great point about the studios weakening the Predator. The Predator was so bad ass that he killed Apollo, Jesse Ventura, and a slew of other bad asses before Arnold finally took him out. Why the Hell does he need help? It's crazy. A battle on the Predator's home planet would be awesome but how would the humans have a chance?
  • porcupine_consumer
I second the comparison to Vince Vaughn's Psycho. I'd rather consume porcupines whole than go through anything like that again.
  • Part of the appeal of the first film was how it was a solo alien hunter out on safari bagging big game, in this case US Army Special Forces. Having a whole Predator All Star team dilutes the potency of the concept and keeps with the trend of weakening the Predator, which was one of the many negatives of the AvP films.
  • I'd see it. As long as it's not PG-13 and not directed or involved with Paul WS Anderson in any way, shape, or form.
  • richard
come on death race wasn't that bad, the resident evil ones on the other hand...
  • i never saw "death race", it did seem like good dumb fun though. as a horror fan, i enjoyed "event horizon" as well. but he just needs to stay away from existing franchises, video games or not.
  • richard
yeah i get what you mean. but yeah you should check out death race, very entertaining, if stupid.
  • shadow
NO. Hows that for a fucking answer. The origional films still plays better than action films of today. Whats next? remaking Die Hard?????
  • frank c
YES i wanna see it! They can call it PREDATORS
  • Please No.
  • thankyoufor
Rodriguez has only made two good movies in my eyes
    planet terror and sin city
    i think hes overrated sorry
  • jobless
Multiple predators wouldnt be all that bad if it was set in modern day. To those who argue that reboots are a bad thing: go suck on some batman begins and the dark knight.
  • Batman Begins came after a string of shitty Batman sequels. In that case, a reboot was welcomed. But reboots like The Karate Kid, Nightmare on Elm St., ect are not needed at all. Just go back and watch the original films!
  • Greedo
NO! I don't see any reason to "reboot" the Predator. The studios must really be out of ideas these days... but they can keep making crappy sequels/mashups as long as I can ignore them.

Also, for the record I don't think Sin City was all that. I'd say the original Predator movie was far better :)

    All aboard the Fail Boat

    :*(
  • as much as everyone likes the dark knight, i blame nolan for hollywood's infatuation with reboots. i am so sick of this shit...
  • No.

You have to blame Hollywood itself for not having self control. You see, Hollywood is like a kid who discovers the wonders of masturbation and can't stop doing it. That's reboots right there; they can't stop doing it and they'll do it even to the movies that don't need 'reboots'.
  • Blame Hollywood. Nolan only did a great deed to a film franchise that was turned into a joke. Hollywood takes something forged by a great creator and then turn it into an MTV special and put it on every corner like a Starbucks until everyone hates it. And then move to something else they can kill within 24 hours.

    "GET TO THE CHOPPA!"
  • "Quickly WE Need To Get Out of here....."
  • trulyrough
Is there any particular reason why they feel the need to remake a movie that was good the first time? Why don't they try taking a crappy movie and make it into something good...
  • What ever happened with Robert Rodriquez's adaption of the comics book Mad Man?
  • This could be good.
But I could not give a shit either way.
  • Don't fucking touch this movie. IT'S PERFECT.

If Rodriguez is smart. He won't come within 10 feet of this project.
  • James
I don't understand all of these reboots. Although it is just telling a story over, I don't feel like any of these films (Friday the 13th, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Child's Play, Hellraiser, Nightmare on Elm Street) are truly reboots. Most of the movies have recently all made films. I know they are just about to release a new Friday the 13th and from what I've read it will be a reboot. We just had a Jason movie a few years ago. I think to call it a reboot we should wait many years. While the story may be a whole new story, it still feels the same when we've just seen a movie a couple of years before. There is something to say about the different between the film quality and cinematography of many of these original films and their most recent releases. Why not wait years from now and let things improve. Then BAM you release a new one and the we can be amazed, and, of course, there will be more hype behind it as the characters haven't been seen in many years.
  • fex
I agree. Too soon. let this franchise die.
  • whsmith
ENOUGH!!!!!!!!! Enough with the freaking remakes and "reboots"!!!!! Writing something new you hacks.
  • Yeah, all these "reboots" all of a sudden... I'm starting to miss regular sequels :( remakes even!
  • "GET TO DA DIGITAL CHOPPA!!!"
  • if rodriguez was in the directors chair i would LOVE to see one. i hope as a produceer he really gets his hands in there
  • Eric
I'm bummed on Robocop. I'll be bummed if this happens. But I guess it will make us appreciate the originals that much more?
  • Dort_Druben
Rodriguez wrote a Predator 3 script back in the day that was judged too high a budget. Then AVP came out and rendered the script moot.

I'd like to see this more of a sequel rather than a reboot. And get back to basics like in the original, that these aliens are out on a hunt. I think that was lost among the sequels and spin offs...
  • Haymaker
The original is a classic! So trying to reboot/remake is just a recipe for failure. How can you improve something that is alredy great?
But I am all about and have been waiting for years (ever since Predator 2) for a Predator 3...
