Final Watchmen Poster

The final movie poster for Zack Snyder’s big screen adaptation of Watchmen has been released on Yahoo, and I must admit, it’s probably the least interesting poster released thus far. I wonder if the settlement gave 20th Century Fox any influence over marketing decisions? Probably not. See the final poster after the jump.

Also, check out this image of Dr Manhattan photographed on day one of Operation Wrath of God (June 15 1970) from The New Frontiersman Flickr account.

While it's true that this is weaker than the other posters for the movie (and a disappointment for a final poster-though final posters ALWAYS seem to be a disappointment these days), it's Watchmen, and it still looks pretty damn cool. Obviously uninspired (a clusterf*** of the Rorshach poster and character banners), but still cool.

yeah, I gotta agree - the poster is kinda bad.

it's like an outtake from a shitty band's photoshoot. looks like photoshop typed in "watchmen," hit the "i'm feeling lucky" button on google...

Rorschach looks embarrassed to be seen.
  • Jordan
dude i love boxcutter! some baddass dubstep/drum and bass.
  • Wow, that's not good at all. I can see how they are trying to fit every character in the poster but that isn't neeed. I say just keep the yellow smiley face poster as the final
  • Studio posters are usually not for the artistic integrity of the project, but something for the marketing of the film. They need to include all of the major stars so when people are seeing Paul Blart, they know who is in the film.
  • Ohhhhhhhhh....
  • I would like to see more films that have artistic posters, but it doesn't help Joe Schmoe know which pretty colors to see this week. I know that I am movie obsessed, but a LOT of other people are not as into it as me. They have lives and interact with other people who don't run to the theater each week to see a new movie or scour the net to find news on the upcoming films.
  • I do that too and it annoys me how some people don't know about a movie and look to a poster to find out everything they need to know about it when really, it's just some mareting glick to get people in the seats
  • It is all about the MONEY :-( I don't fault the studio doing its best to pack the seats with people, but I also love artistic film posters. Floating head posters annoy me, I prefer mine to be like the Polish posters that come out. They are more abstract in nature and symbolic of what the film represents. My favorite one is of Vertigo. I previously put a direct link in the text, but saw that it was being moderated. DVD Beaver.com usually has a slue of wonderful posters with their reviews of films.
  • The poster is fine, I think it will generate interest from people seeing the poster at theaters. But yes, it is kind of a weak poster compared to all the other ones.
  • Dr. Manhattan always looks so sad. He should make himself a puppy.
  • who watches?
    Hahaha.
    I find this hilarious.
  • Reason
    LMAO! Holy shit, dude.
  • dr.mahattan
A puppy is an unquantifiable abstract.
  • It looks like a horror or paranormal movie poster, like it's about a ghost.
  • They had Photoshop in 1970? Dr Manhattan really moved things forward.
  • Hah, you're totally right.

    That Vietnam "photograph" is terrible.
  • Palmer
[Place redundant comment on how crappy the poster is here]
  • "Worst Poster Ever"

No, not quite. But it is pretty Bad when considering other posters that have already been released. Maybe the negative reaction to this poster will bring about another Final poster in the near future.
  • Dr. Doc
    underwhelmig to say the least
  • Dr. Manhatten looks awkward there.

What they should have done was re-create that image of the group. Oh, I just found it:

  • Eh, definitely feeling a little boring. At least the movie is hitting theaters on time!
  • all they did was take the awesome rorshache poster and threw some stills in it, lazy
  • starscream9289
My excitement levels for this movie are dropping :/
  • mesa
    guess it suits the film...
  • My Comment dissapeared for some odd reason. Is because there was a link?

Anyway, here's a part of my comment:
  • dayum
  • I like the poster. I don't think there is anything that could make me not want to see this movie now. Maybe that's not completely serious, but it would have to be something seriously bad to lower my level of excitement for this film.

This is the movie I've been waiting for since I first read Watchmen. I'm so glad it's finally getting made. Many have tried, all have failed until Snyder has come along. If this movie turns out to be as good as most people are thinking it will be and as good as I'm thinking it will be, then Zack Snyder will forever be a hero in my book. There are a lot of Watchmen fanboys out there (myself included) that will be there opening weekend to make everyone involved with this movie very wealthy.
  • Was Dr. Mahattan like "Well I want to be seen in this group photo so maybe I'll just go up fifteen feet to make my presence known." And in that Vietnam photo he looks like Christain Bale from The Machinist.
  • "I wonder if the settlement gave 20th Century Fox any influence over marketing decisions?"

I think it's more of a WB realizing they can't waste any more money on this film kind of thing.
  • And why block out Silk Spectre's ass?
  • MPAA
  • MPAA.

    Taste.

    Decorum.
  • Doesn't mean I have to like it...
  • All overrated.
  • The line "From the Visionary Director of 300' should be at the top, rather in the center. It looks off.
  • I would like to see Zack Shnyder direct The X-Men. Just the fact that he stayed true to the original costumes for the most part is ahead of Singer's adaptation (horrible).

Just a thought as I look at this poster.
  • You wrote Snyder's last name with a German accent!
  • Ja Zack Shnyder visionary director of de 300.
  • What is that thing in the upper right side of the poster? Is it Archie or a Zeppelin?
  • Presto117
it's the Gunga Diner elephant blimp.
  • Syms
This poster is clearly aimed at the people who don't know the GN. Of needs to look more conventional for the great unwashed
  • hawk
How can you be called a visionary director when you're just copying someone else's style?
  • I went to the theater a bit ago. They had the one person banners that rocked.
  • It's redundant to comment on the crappiness of this poster. This poster is crappy. Damn.
  • Meh. I'm happy just because all the character posters are hanging up on my theatre, but they are giant ones. It's great to see the Doc, Rorschach, Laurie, Dan, The Comedian, and Adrian everywhere. But this poster is a little lame. It's like all the other posters meshed together. The Dr. Manhattan one is the coolest so far to me, but when buying one of them, I'd get an Ozy one, just because it's Ozy.
  • No, it is a thermodynamic miracle.
  • Joe
The tachylons will muddle things up!
  • It looks like someone yelled "Group photo!" at them.
  • This further fuels my claims that this film has tremendous potential to bomb. We all know the fanboys who read movie blogs such as this are going to see it, but considering the marketing beyond attracting those fanboys is rather lackluster, one has to wonder where the other ticket sales will come from?? Posters like this, and LP sountdtrack releases are hardly attracting a 'general' audience, I can't see how this is going to take off (to the level people are expecting).
