Charlie’s Angels 3 with Rihanna as New Angel?

Nancy Juvonen is Drew Barrymore’s co-producer at Flower Films and together they were string-pullers for the first two Charlie’s Angels films, as well a slate of other films that include the popular-round-here Donnie Darko. They have two upcoming movies for 2009 - the star-studded Will It Blend? experiment of US rom-commery, He’s Just Not That Into You - which will feature Barrymore in an acting role; and roller derby drama Whip It!, which stars Ellen Page and features Zoe Bell and Juliette Lewis - and has been directed by Drew.

After Ms. Barrymore recently blabbed to E! about wanting to add a third Angels film to the pair she already has, Sci Fi Wire managed to get an interview with her compadre Ms. Juvonen and pushed for as much info as she was willing and able to give.

Bear in mind, of course, there’s nothing like a deal in place for any of this - Juvonen even specified that they’re not far along enough to even have a plot, let alone a full treatment, so I doubt there’s even been much talk with the studio - but if the Flower girls manage to keep their enthusiasm up for long enough, I think there’s a strong possibility this will actually happen. Juvonen’s conditions aren’t totally insurmountable, I’m sure:

“We’d have to do it with McG. I don’t think we could do it without McG and I think that the Angels all at least need to be there. Right?”

She also posited the possibility of a fourth Angel joining the team, adding “I’m having a Rihanna fixation myself. What are you going to do?”

And, regarding the return of Crispin Glover as The Thin Man, “Isn’t he the best, Crispin? I’m with you, so I feel like I’m going to think about it.”

I think all films featuring Crispin Glover should have him a) record a song for the end credits b) direct the music video for that song and c) star in a trailer for the film, in the style of Alfred Hitchcock, Marty DiBergi or the Neil Gaiman Coraline trailer from earlier in the week.

The interview also addresses the passing of Bernie Mac, which was a sad reminder of his passing. Juvonen knows that she would have to act respectfully in the replacement of Bosley, and admits to having given it some thought… though what thinks she thunk, I dunno.

So, Juvonen gives us complete non-commital status on pretty much everything and a healthy run of hype-starting rumour speak that really says nothing much at all, but also offers up an indication, at the very least, that she’d actually like to see the film get made. Give her a gold star in marketing.

I’m a big fan of most of the first film and almost as much of the second (I particularly love the dirt bike sequence and the Thin Boy flashback) so I really hope McG doesn’t snob out and turn his back on this possible trilogy-capper but instead decides to jump on and really push the boat out. Having said that, I’d like to see him do a number of other films first, and not just Terminator sequels and undersea adventures but something a bit less… summery.

Charlies Angels 3: Revenge of the Forehead
  • I really don't want to see another Charlie's Angels, the first one was bareable, the second one was ridiculous. And I really don't think McG will be back after he redeems himself with Terminator Salvation. If I were him, I'd stay away from another Angels movie.

loved the first 2 angels movies? really? christ, those were awful films even by the standard of summer blockbusters. i was shocked that they made money. drew barrymore is busted, and cameron diaz has also seen better days. the only way i see this is if McG adds more giant robots to piss off micheal bay some more.

I don't really feel like a Charlie's Angel actor has to be anything but sexy hot to portray the role. It's all about hot girl detectives getting the job done wearing scantily clad outfits and breakin hearts.

I agree with other comments though, do we really need another one of these films? If so. I guess make all the girls smokin hot at least, and make sure they show more skin this time. The other crew was a little prudish if you ask me.
  • Do we really need another 'Charlie's Angels' movie? And this time without Bernie Mac? I'll pass on this...
  • I think I'll pass.
  • excuse me while I go barf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They're really fun popcorn films and Rihanna would be a welcome addition to the eye candy. I'll see it.
  • Man, she's so hot.

I would love to see them make this and then continue saying that piracy is the reason that movies are not making money.
  • The last two films were very profitable.

It's never good when they try to turn a singer into an actor/actress or vice versa.

At least they didn't go for Paris Hilton, she sucks at everything.......except sucking dick >.>
  • Jennifer Hudson won a bunch of awards, and she's a singer tunred actress. She even won the Golden Globe in 2007..

So with some people the transition is well done.

i agree with you bout 90% about paris... she was ok in REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA! she didnt even need to act, she just had to play a whore, who wants money and everything else in the world in the palm of her hand! lmao
