  • "Wow! What is this with the name calling? "

Well you did call Adam a dick. That sort of counts as name calling.
  • Dude... have a sense of humour.

  • Why does every comment you make have +3 points moments after you leave it? Wait, scratch that. I know why. You have two other accounts that you're using to give yourself thumbs up with. That, my friend, is kind of sad.

    Busted!
  • YES!!! Stephen Tobolowsky is back! At first, I thought you guys were reviewing Groundhog Day with him since it was bolded, but Towelhead is good too.
  • I love this show. I think it's the best movie podcast on the net, and that more often than not you guys are right. But listening to your Gran Torino review made me SO ANGRY. I feel like you completely misunderstood the entire movie. The character of Walt was meant to be exactly as he was portrayed. The idea presented in the movie is that while Walt is a racist and that he rightfully learns to accept others, it's also about how people like him are at least not behaving in a manner where they put on a fake presentation for others to appear like people want them to. He may be prejudiced, but he's not hateful, he's simply from another generation, and this is better than simply putting up a facade while essentially having as much prejudice as someone like Walt.
  • "it's also about how people like him are at least not behaving in a manner where they put on a fake presentation for others to appear like people want them to. ...and this is better than simply putting up a facade while essentially having as much prejudice as someone like Walt."

Can you please explain where in the film any of that is communicated?
  • 1. The barber character.
2.The scene where Walt and the Barber 'teach' Thao how to be a man.
    3. The scene in the bar where he tells the 3 minorities walk into a bar joke.
    4. the young preist, especially in the sene in Walt's house towards the end.
    5. etc...
  • Maybe I should have elaborated more. When I was talking about that, I was referring to Walt's son, the one with the slutty daughter. I think that guy is like your steroetypical white-collar, liberal-minded man, the kind of guy Walt might call a "pussy" (maybe that's a bit rough, but that's the kind of guy Walt is), and I felt that he was a representation of the kind of people I mentioned, in your comment above. In the movie, he would be offended were Walt to say a term like "zipperhead", and yet during the film, people were rooting for Walt, and not the son. That's because it showed how he can be a guy that people can learn to like, including the Hmong family next door, and yet many people would see the son as someone who is selfish, stuck-up, and disrespectful to his own father, like in the scene where he only called to ask about Lions season tickets. I just felt that this was a central theme in the movie, and something that could be felt and related to by people who saw the film.
  • ...I'm sorry, I'm really confused at what exactly you're trying to say. What is the central theme in the film that you're referring to? And how does what you're talking about in the second comment relate to what you're talking about in the first one?

I'm not trying to be a dick or anything. I just really don't understand what point you're trying to make.
  • Alright, basically what I'm saying is this...the central theme I'm referring to is how people like Walt have problems, but he's a better person than some one like his son who is a jerk, even though some would see the son as the better person, but in fact Walt is a more likeable man. In my second comment, I was referring to what I had said, and what you copy and pasted into your first comment. Okay, maybe it's a little confusing, but such is the commenting system. In turn, the point I'm trying to make is that you guys said you didn't understand what the message/theme of the movie was, and what I said is what I feel the message/theme is. I'm sorry if maybe you were or are confused, that's just how I felt.

Oh, don't worry Adam, you don't have to try to be a dick. It all comes natural for you.
  • Then why listen to them in the first place? Idiot.
  • I hope Eastwood gets a nomination for this.
  • i hope NOT
  • I still wanna see this movie!

Another good episode, and after seeing the movie I knew David would hate on it hardcore. I personally thought it wasn't that bad of a movie.
